Some neat, and somewhat scary ideas, but I still don't see it. Anything with a wireless modem sucks down juice, so they'll need a battery much larger than a microSIM, rendering the whole argument rather pointless. At least until we get miracle batteries, or resurrect Tesla and get him working on that wireless power and perpetual motion stuff.
That's what the normal machine tools he listed are for though, low run, custom stuff.
For mass production you get custom dies for stamping and cutting, blow molding, casting, etc, and CNC for the tricky bits. Things that cost more in initial setup but speed up, reduce skilled labour requirements, and labour in general, so it pays off in the end.
I suppose a 3D printer is like a really shitty CNC mill equivalent, that can't handle metal. Guess you can't expect much though.
Ukrainians don't say "the Ukraine". They don't even have a definite article in the first place.
The famine was a trainwreck for sure, but being perpetuated by multiple ethnicities (incl. ukrainians) and the brunt was felt by multiple ethnicities (incl russians), it wasn't genocide.
The liberals can be bought. I think it would have to be a cold, cold day in hell before the NDP passes anything that is both American backed and pro corporate. Simply not their thing.
Well, jet fuel is almost kerosene. Which isn't too far removed from diesel in the scheme of things.
Which leads to my thought that vegetable oil or tallow based biodiesel is roughly similar in energy to petro-diesel, of course it has other issues, like viscosity in cold weather and such... but I believe it is only slightly less energy dense. (suppose it depends on the exact feedstock, I can't seem to find a solid number in a quick look, but looks like 5-10% less energy).
So, seems kinda gimmicky, as well, there are limited amounts of tallow out there... You can put chicken fat into slimjims, but you can't put diesel in them.
Plenty of them are easy and common, some not so much.
1 acre is a chain by a furlong... quick, what's that in square feet? If it's a square, how long are the sides? How many fit in a square mile? (that's a free question if you're a farmer).
Whereas a hectare is is 10,000 sq. meters, in a square it would have 100m on a side. 100 of them fit in one square km. Little bit easier math.
By the by, do SI users measure their weight in newtons (the correct unit) or kg (from what I remember from when I lived in Germany, the one they actually use)?
It's irrelevant for laymen on earth. That's just a troll question. They mean mass when they say weight, for which the kg is proper unit.
A few of my relatives have TDIs, great little engines, excellent mileage. I opted for the gas fueled GTI though... double the power and starts better in our -40 climate. At the cost of half the mileage though. Way it goes I guess.
If I had a longer commute or travelled more, I'd definitely have gone with the diesel though.
You thought replacing flaky early-run coil-packs was expensive. What does a replacement laser-ignitor cost?
Is it susceptible to fouling and such? Can it be cleaned in such cases? If your engine pings does it destroy the laser? etc.
I'm not afraid of change or anything, but igntion systems have come a long way since the model T. All you need to change now is the plugs, no more rotor, cap, points, condenser. It's a nice reliable system.

Future note: when putting apache on a toaster, don't post a link to it unless you want it to burn the toast.

It's easy to be all high and mighty when your Selectric isn't even capable of being connected to anything mission critical.
Actually - how did you manage to get it to post on /.?
erm, hitler killed himself.
The majority also believe in god.
so. belief doesn't necessarily correlate with truth, but it can...
You can eat one fish, or you can eat two fish. However you can eat several different types of fishes. I think that works?
Or am I missing it...
deer, elk, moose, buffalo, bison, beer [in canada, generally but not always], fish.
There are a bunch more but I can't seem to think of many non-animal ones. :-)

troll harder.
This is less to do with it being a minority, and more to do with it not being a conservative majority.
God help us if they ever get one. The social conservative reform freakshow will really come out if they do.
The liberals can be bought. I think it would have to be a cold, cold day in hell before the NDP passes anything that is both American backed and pro corporate. Simply not their thing.
AK was never designed for long range, so you can't really fault it for that.
If they want to hit someone from 800 yd, they'd call on the guy with a purpose fitting rifle, a SVD or something along those lines.

Why not sell 192.168.0.0/16?
or 10.0.0.0/8 for that matter. Much better payout than a measly /24.
pressure on earth at sealevel = 1 atm ~= 1 bar = 100kpa ~= 14.5PSI
so a little over 200kpa, actually 220kpa, or 2.2atm or 2.2bar.
Chances are your pressure gauge has both on it anyway.
it covers daily temps without going into negative numbers--
Suppose that depends where you live. It gets below -40 here, which coincidentally, is the same in either system.
Gallons are 4.55L in Canada, you insensitive clod!
(I usually remember it as 4.54L though, because 454g = 1lb. Two conversions with only one constant saved in my brain... gotta save those bits).

Precision imperial measurements (say, machinist spinning something down) is in decimal portions of an inch anyway. ie .125", not 1/8".
That way when you need 3 thou interference, you mill the matching piece to .0122, not 1/8" minus 3/1000", which is odd to bang up in your head.
So... sometimes units that divide nice... are nice, and other times not so much.

My 2001 VW Jetta TDI gets about 45mph highway.
I would hope it goes faster than that. :p

Interesting...
My Nomad has plenty of space, thank you.

Be curious to see this though.
I meant for phone too. It's too expensive here, full stop. I don't think I will ever have a data plan here unless things change drastically.
