Can you prove that DVDXCopy is simply a front-end wrapper for a bunch of open source tools? This has been a "myth" and something people have claimed for quite some time but I've never seen anyone back it up!
Get him a nice brand (Ritek, Ricoh, Mitsubishi, etc.) 100 spindle of DVD +/- Rs...gigs and gigs of data and perhaps he'll burn a couple romantic flicks for you guys to watch (in between copying all of his friends hardcore pr0ns).:)
Actually eMachines aren't too shabby. Recently purchased ones have all name brand parts, etc...not as cheap as they were back in the original days (Celeron 300-era).
I run a VW enthusiast website that primarily consists of people discussing the modifications of their Volkswagens. However, I do have a forum which "anything goes" and it happens to have pr0n posted once in a while. I ran Google AdSense for a few weeks and then they emailed me stating I had to censor the content or remove the ads. Needless to say, I removed the ads. I respect Google's intentions - most advertisers don't want to be affiliated with "risque" content...and they are just protecting their interests. They were very courteous throughout the issue and I would definitely use them again if I have a site that conforms to their guidelines.
I don't understand why ReplayTV would even consider removing those features, especially seeing as those are two of the HUGE advantages it has over its (winning) competitor Tivo.
Sure, Tivo has the 30 second skip if you have the right model and you enter in the Easter Egg, but most people don't surf around for Easter Eggs and therefore aren't aware of it (plus it isn't advertised as a feature for drones shopping at Best Buy, etc.).
They already declared bankruptcy and were bought out by another company, so somehow by eliminating some of its most compelling features they are going to rise to the top?
Everyone needs to lighten up...sheesh. Yes, child pr0n was mentioned in the article, but at the end it states if you discover "illegal goodies" on a server/workstation. In that context I think of MP3s/warez/movies/LEGAL pr0n, which I would gladly horde.
But anyway, glad I got everyone goin' crazy discussing the issue.
So a BIG RAID is somehow safer than many small RAIDS? Backups aren't just for the heck of it...some of them are required for compliance, i.e. the financial industry.
You say the P4 has a "pretty fucked up design"...but this is the "old" P4 you are referring to. As mentioned in the article, the P4 2.4GHz and up are redesigned significantly.
You also argue stability...I tend to disagree with that - AMD is not known for it's stability versus Intel. It may have the performance crown, but stability it does not. If for no other reason than that almost all software is designed with Intel processors in mind. Nevermind the huge heat and power resources required by many AMD processors versus Intel at the same speed...
Well that makes a lot of sense...especially considering the apps he mentions run natively on WINDOWS!
Please...someone post some *proof* that DVDXCOPY is just a "front-end" for the apps the poster above lists...you probably cannot because there is none...this app is claimed to be 100% original by the folks at DVDXCOPY.
You have absolutely no proof of this. I'm a heavy user of DVDXCOPY as well as other related apps (including SmartRipper from your list) and I highly doubt it is simply a "front-end". Derrow (maker of IFOEdit and DVDRip among others) has even pitched in to develop on the DVDXCOPY project now.

You download each individual movie, there is no streaming per se. It is all controlled by a special DRM module that is installed on your REAL player.

...out of the box...no shit...surprising, eh?

...And you need to carry your whole collection with you at all times because....?

Nice to see Apache adding this functionality. As a web admin, the availability of another layer of security is always appreciated.

Quit tryin' to use Slashdot as your own personal eBay.... ....So, how much for that dual PPro? :)

People that own a Mac OS X-capable Macintosh and know how to use MP3s/Movies/etc. and have a wireless network and have a TiVo???
:)
This thing will sell like hotcakes!

Price mistake or did they sell out due to Slashdotters feverishly picking them up?
Sorry...that isn't proof. They spend about 99% of the threads time talking about DVDX, which is *NOT* DVDXCOPY.
Here is a thread you should review:

Wrong!
Get a USB ethernet adapter...there are quite a few models that are "unofficially" supported by TiVo's "OS".
Right on the same site you linked too...lol:
