It depends on the router, most simple WiFi routers really don't have anything too interesting.
I don't know about the newer ones, but my Linksys router (the old one, non-wireless) has all sorts of interesting stuff, like static routes. Without having to use a DNS server, you could make www.google.com point at something more interesting, like, say, tubgirl or goatse. Imagine the calls to tech support!
I don't know if you're being a smart ass, but I'll assume you're not so I actually help you if that's the case. I wasn't just being pedantic when I said bash itself doesn't have copy and paste. It's a combination of the window manager and the terminal program.
It just so happens that most Linux distributions that I've seen come with a console-mode copy and paste program called "gpm". Look at the output of "ps" and see if it's running. If not, start it. Once it's running, switch to a virtual console and move your mouse and you should see a cursor floating around.
X Windows, like bash, has it's own way of copy/paste
bash doesn't have any way at all of copying and pasting. The window or virtual console that bash is running in might, but bash itself knows only standard input.
I understand the need for lack of hard drive noise. A network boot system would solve this problem as well. I've been playing with it at home just for fun, and it works well, and yields a surprisingly responsive system. There's an old-but-good article at tldp.org.
Completely agree. It sounds like they ran fiber to all the dorm rooms just so they could say, "Hey! Look! We have fiber run to all the dorm rooms!". Or maybe they have an agreement with the bookstore and manufacturer of the "media converter".
I'm not doing anything mission-critical over wireless at home anyway. Encryption makes my connection crawl, and it's just not worth the trouble. I have the MAC filter turned on to secure the rest of my network, and that's enough for me. If someone wants to sniff and see all the slashdot posts and porn going over the air, they can go right ahead.
I purchased Sony's first palm-based handheld, the PEG-S300, not long after it came out. It was a competitor to the Palm V, as mentioned in the article, but cost a fraction. It was small, fast, had a hi-res screen, a jog dial, and came with a nice case that is still the best I've seen for a PDA. But the interface to the sync software was clearly rushed to market absolutely sucked.
Sucks that the competition is gone -- first Handspring, now Sony. At least Palm seems to have gotten their act together on the hardware side of things.

Gee, it was given food, water, a pasture to roam, protected from wolves, mountain lions and diseases. Then it was killed relatively quickly before becoming my dinner.
Maybe for your steak.
I took a class called "Speciesism" my senior year of undergrad. We read books and articles pretty much about the topics being discussed in this story. One thing that's appalling is the treatment animals receive in so-called "factory farms". A quick web search will enlighten you.
Yes, I suck because I know this and still don't change my ways. Oh well.

The tracker posted in the original torrent apparently couldn't handle the traffic. After some digging, I was able to find another. You should just be able to resume where you left off.
I actually had a question about this. I run btdownloadcurses, and I never opened up the ports on my firewall. But uploading still occurs. How does this happen?
That seems like a very drastic action just because you don't like your job. How's this for an open mind: there are companies in America that aren't necessarily like in others in "Corporate America".
This is great news! I put in a request a couple of months ago to have this purchased, and I just cancelled that request. It's nice to have one fewer barrier to acceptance.
Now I just have to convince our NT admin staff to turn on Outlook Web Access...
So, what I usually do when installing a new copy of Fedora or Redhat is to drop to a console, and use fdisk + mkfs.jfs manually
You're making things unnecessarily complicated. At the "boot:" prompt, just type "linux jfs". The graphical installer will then offer it as an option. Works with reiserfs, too.
That's the first thing I thought, too. Hell, start with Papa John's, or even Pizza Hut (yes, Pizza Hut is better than something). Or a command-line program to have poop delivered to your door. But not Domino's.
You're assuming that I'm running X, no?
For the first part, maybe. For the second part about gpm, no, it has nothing to do with X whatsoever.
Did you hear something? It was the joke flying over your head.

The author should be getting more recognition.
Yeah, he should. Funny that you don't mention his name though, isn't it?
You can get the tool even cheaper than that. Use a coathanger. Cost: a replacement coathanger.

What's wrong with copper?

It doesn't relate to identity theft and fraud. You asked how a crime could be victimless, and you were given two examples.

You want an electronic device, that has a keyboard, you can type on, but is not a laptop or a PDA? Is there a punchline here?
Christ, buy a Palm IIIe and a keyboard from eBay. Way less than $50. If that's too expensive, stick with your notebook and buy a scanner.
I read "Jeremy White's Wine answers" as "Jeremy's White Wine answers".
So it's basically like passive-mode FTP. Gotcha.
Thanks for the info!

From the comparison in the article:
Power Supply
EVM: 6V alkaline batteries
Diebold: electricity
So batteries don't produce electricity? Interesting...
Sounds fair to me. Unlike the text ones, they're blockable, too, for those who aren't interested.
