Can someone please tell me how to disable tags? I have the "Show Tags" box unchecked in my general preferences and they're still there. They're completely fucking useless and it pisses me off every time I see them.
Bad day or not, what's the real benefit of running OS X as a guest? Sure, it's good for some people on the desktop, and if that's your use, you probably have a Mac already.
Virtualization is mostly used for servers. What "server" tasks can OS X do that Linux/Solaris/Windows can't do better?
I've had the most direct experience with a Treo 650, an HTC Apache, and an iPhone.
When I first started using each device, the hardware keyboards were without a doubt, much easier to use. After getting used to the iPhone keyboard, though, I have to say that it's perfectly adequate for text entry. One of the keys is to let it autocorrect for you. 90% of the time, it corrects to what I meant to type.
My experience almost mirrors yours, and I couldn't agree more. I went from a Treo 650 to a 680 to an HTC Tilt to an iPhone. The first time I used a friend's iPhone, I had all sorts of typos. Tried it again later, and it was better enough to get me to finally buy one. One week later, after realizing I should just type and not correct, and I'm probably 2x as fast as I ever was on the Treo. Nonetheless, I understand the concern over the lack of keyboard, because it turned me off for a long time.
I certainly don't love everything about it. There are probably 50 things I've said "I could change this on the Palm or the Tilt". But I'd never go back.
Ah, the old "everyone is just like me" argument. Despite Linux being "so wonderful" (and I happen to agree), some people need to get real work done, and I'm not referring to using Open Office.
This way, when the computer eventually dies in a couple years I can install on my new one.
There's nothing keeping you from installing it on another computer, but you're violating the license agreement by doing so. You need the Retail version to move it. Why not just pirate it to begin with and save yourself the $150?
I don't know if you're being pedantic, but if you're not, you're full of crap. Who gives a damn if the window manager or the kernel crashes? You're nevertheless interrupted from using the system.
Under both Linux and Windows, it's pretty easy to set up the middle button to allow you to use the trackpoint to scroll. IMO, it completely 0wns any touch pad scrolling, because you can scroll down 1000 comments on a/. page by moving your finger a couple of millimeters.
Don't worry about "dealing with" Linux on a Thinkpad. Just install OpenSUSE 10.3. I haven't tried an X61, but I have tried several others. Everything works out of the box, even the hard stuff, like suspend to disk with an LVM swap device, middle button trackpoint scrolling, function and volume buttons, etc.
And by the way, once you get used to a trackpoint, you'll wonder how you ever used a touchpad.
And if everyone is speeding, the limits are obviously artificially low, otherwise you'd see an increase in accident and death rates..... Or, maybe they're not artificially low, and you'd see a decrease in accidents if people followed them.
if the BSA got wind of this, it would all fall on me when they stormed in
But if you're not there, it won't. Hooray for blackmail!
Good for you that it works for a motivator. The rest of us just exercise self-control.
This is great! Now, can we please have MMS and copy/paste like smartphones from 8 years ago?
And they pay the artist pennies on the dollar. IMHO, that's why people pirate music.
I disagree. I think people pirate music because it's free. I don't think anyone gives a rat's ass how much it costs or doesn't cost the artist.

The submitter.
And, uh, the article.
So, have you two gotten your proofs back from the photographer yet?
I kid...
Being a n00b
I'm tied to Winderz (32-bit XP)
Wine sux IMHO so I wanted as close to real Winderz as I could get.
I needed my Winderz vm
it is so frick'n stable.
AND THIS IS FRICK'N FREE!
their Winderz VMs
and no I don't work for Sun!
You don't work for Sun? Never would have guessed...
If your routers allowed something stupid to be done to them, you should buy new ones.
GPP didn't mean startup of the system, but startup of the application. The system loads HUGE.DLL when it isn't doing anything else.

LOL. Do an eBay search for "BIOS password".
This is a great idea. Even better if you have a desktop/server: put the partitions on a separate disk. Rather than using dd, rsync it nightly.
Bad patch? Bork something up? Disk fails? Flip some BIOS settings/cables and you're done.
My current employer utilizes a similar method on hundreds of servers for patches and upgrades.
That's what she said.
(I'm going to hell)
2) Don't most phones support clicking on the number in mobile maps or is it just iPhone?
If you're using the iPhone you'd better be using mobile maps, because you can forget about copying and pasting it.
Sorry, couldn't resist :)
Me neither. :)

You power off before adding memory? Pussy.
