There has to be several orders of magnitude between x and n.

For that matter, if you're splurging, why get a DDS drive? Go for a DLT-IV or AIT-2 drive instead. Sure, the cost is going to be 2-3 times that of a DDS4 drive, but capacity and performance make it worth it. (Our AIT-1 drive at the $ORK_PLACE is ver, very nice.) A person that buys 3 GB of RAM (and a motherboard that can address it) for a desktop PC and multiple Ultra-160 SCSI drives shouldn't stick at an extra thousand for a much better backup drive.

We have a couple of Linux boxes running now on the back end. Our firewall is running kernel 2.4.x to get the improvements netfilter brings. gShield is a great tool for firewall control. Don't edit the config files with Notepad or Wordpad, though.

We have a dedicated PC at our hosting company, a RAQ4 w/Apache.

On the desktop, we are stuck with MS. Most of the software we use for our business, (insurance) is provided as part of our contracts with the insurance companies. We don't rate and quote insurance with the software they provide, they don't do business with us. We are stuck for the moment. In the future, though, we may be able to make some changes. Many of hte companies we do business with are moving to "web" apps, or Metaframe/Terminal Server scenarios.

It would also require 2387 separate patches upon receipt of the card, BEFORE it is placed in your wallet to keep it from spontaneously collapsing in upon itself on first use.

Also, that $100,000 is per pocket in your wallet: 2 bill pockets and 8 card pockets such as my wallet has would cost $1,000,000 up front.
