I see you have not read the article. They are ranking possible states by trying to find states that have low voter turnout and that are already leaning towards the kind of policies they want to implement. The idea being that by adding a bloc that will vote with a large number of people who already live in that state they will be able to swing many votes their way. So while you can't elect a governer with 20,000 votes if you where to add 20,000 votes one way or the other in many states you could swing the election the way you wanted it to go.

Thank you very much. That is exactly right if we educate everyone we know about this and then vote for a party that has stated that they are against this it will send a clear message to the people who are in power that doing this will lose them votes. This was in *no* way flamebait but rather a serious suggestion. Well ok the straight ticket part was a bit of a joke but the idea of voting Libetarian in any race in which someone may have voted for the DMCA is deadly serious.

You *don't* understand the concept of fair use. Fair use is that I don't want to have to cary it from my house to my car and then to the office everyday I make two copies leave on in the car, one at work, and the original at home. It is already illegal for me to make a copy and give it to a friend. The point being we do not need new laws we simply need to enforce the already existing laws. And people have been copying music for a *very* long time and yet people manage to make a lot of money at it. I think if you are depending on selling cds you don't understand the business model. Selling copies of the music has always been bad for the people making the music. They make most of their money off of live shows. Selling music is just a way to get people to shows.

No some parts of IT tend to be recession-sensitive. The thing is to pick wisely. I can't speak for the coding side of the house having never been there. But I know that in the last few years of slow down. I as a datacomm, network infrastructure, security kind of guy have seen *no* slow down and in the past year have seen a lot of new interest. (Mostly having to do with the security side of things.) The reason so many folks in "IT" are having problems right now is because a large number of them got some kind of a cert during the bubble years and thought they were good to go. Had no love for the profession had no depth had no real understanding. And where in the I can run a windows/*nix server crowd. Well the herd go thinned. Get a good solid deep background then learn as much as possible about *every* aspect of IT and you too will be recession proof.

No one said it would solve all your problems but it can be a *very* useful tool. You should also go read their stuff on novel keying methods. Very cool and worth thinking about. Also the question at least in a "democracy" like the USA is how important is the inforamation to the government and how far will they go to try and extract it. For example in the US I could use rubberhose cough up 2 or 3 passphrases and then "forget" the rest of them. Also with the novel keying methods you limit their ability to torture passphrases out of you. I mean hell even without novel keying methods my typical passphrase is the average of two or three paragraphs from a book, with semi random "misspellings" thrown in for good measure, they would have to stop well short of any serious torture to be able to get that kind of information out of me. So while no crypto is not perfect it can be used and torture based methods can be fought.
