    run a Windows VM as a player, but I want something far less clunky

    And virtual machines make sucky audio (video's not much better). Quality media has to play from the host with direct access to the hardware.

    They're in Europe. Their privacy "protections" are as phony as a three dollar bill (well they all are, but that's for another article). That's all you should need to know. No matter what any of these people say, you have to take it on faith, you can never verify what they are doing until there's a slip-up.

    I can't play a tape in my car either. Hasn't been a car made with a tape player as standard equipment in quite a while. Last car made with a tape player as standard equipment was sold back in 2010.

    Eh, hook up a bluetooth adapter to your walkman.

    Vinyl and film I can understand, but magnetic medium just doesn't hold up. I don't understand why anybody would want a cassette tape. When are we going to bring back floppy disks? Or zip disks, there ya go... or better yet, punch cards and ladies in long skirts and high heels changing the reels of tape

    Nope, you're right on. Exactly as you said it, bittorent provides content, not service. They can do what they want as long as they don't interfere with anybody else that does the same thing. Our singular issue with the internet is service provision.

    Obviously! There are no Chinese people in the Chinese government, military, not a single one is collecting a government check, or supports it in any way, right? Where do you suppose they are from? I am fascinated by this hard line that people draw between themselves and their government. I think it's to apply plausible deniability for what the government does, with full consent of theirs in the "west".
