    When they dropped the desktop marked they already signed their death wish. Everybody I know is running umbuntu and for the servers that own redhat enterprise is going to be removed and loaded with umbuntu. It doesn't take long to despise RPM files after running APT.

    I have been to it, the course ware is fairly extensive but was boring none the less. I cannot see much of the slashdot crowd getting much from it, just a rehash of common knowledge tools and techniques that we pretty much have all heard of.

    Now I was stuck in a room full of MS and MCSE zombies who did not know the difference between
    a TCP and UDP packet. Just listening to the students talk I could feel the grey matter being sucked from my head....sort of like a high school student sitting in on a first grade class.

    I have been investigating some of these tool sets and so far I would say morfik has
    everyone stomped by a long shot.
    The still however have large strikes against them.
    Their visual development environment only runs on windows...strike one. The platform
    thus far is closed source...strike two. On a plus note the compiled applications run
    cross platform. On another plus note you can deploy locally disconnected as well
    as connected. It supports 4 major languages as well which is another plus.

    No I do not have any interest in morfik just stating some observations.

    8 international and multilingual business domains, 3 full intranets and all web applications hosted on two redhat clusters, postgresql and mysql backends and we have a grand total of 1 "Me, Myself and I", development and administration. If you are having that much trouble doing a site update you did not write it correctly to begin with. I can update the site look and feel for one of our domains in a hour. It is a little bit of a juggling act sometimes but get everything done somehow.

    Apple could thrust one hell of a spear into the beast by releasing osx on standard intel now or very quickly. Yes it would be a frigging bold move but sometimes it takes a bold move when you want to make all the bucks. Yes of course drivers would be a big issue but I think that is a problem that could be solved also.

    parked domains to IIS servers....To think there is a technical reason or advantage is pure hog wash...

    And don't give me a bunch of bull about how great .net is. Being a ex asp programmer I grabbed the latest copy of visual studio and had a little go with
    it.....guess what, it is still the same buggy piece of crap it always was.

    If you want more blood out of sony here you go.... Nothing at all stopping you
    from taking them to small claims court and getting what you deserve. Most small claims courts have a very small fee like $10 for filing, 5 minutes in front of a judge and bingo you have got cash!

            * damage to a computer or network resulting from interactions between the XCP Software or the MediaMax Software and your computer (e.g., damage to your hard drive);
            * damage related to your reasonable efforts to remove the XCP Software or the MediaMax Software; or
            * copyright, trademark or other claims arising from the development of the MediaMax Software or the XCP Software, or any uninstallers or updates thereto.

    You may still sue Sony BMG for any such claims, whether or not you choose to take advantage of the settlement benefits. As part of the settlement process, Sony BMG agreed to waive its overreaching New York forum selection clause and $5 limit on damages, so you can take them to your local small claims court for your damages.

    Oh you mean I could just replace Internet Explorer with anything I want right? I could just go to windows updates then with this new browser and download my updates right? I could install it without having some idiotic messenger icon bugging me every five minutes to sign up right? They use their dominate platform to extend their reach to other markets. This in most countries is illegal and thus the reason they are being fined and being required to unbundle. Yes other platforms bundle software but then again I can 100% remove the components that I am replacing as well.

    OO can be run headless and I do so to generate multiple outputs from web
    forms on a server, doc, word, pdf etc.

    Actually yes you are sort of right it is a fairly decent way to keep separation. However asp.net is no magic break through and I even managed to build a apache
    filter based on python that lets me use the same exact type of architecture and coded it in a single night.

    Hey it ain't the users fault and it should not matter what site you go to. No call a pig a pig, IE / Windows and the lack of security is the problem here not where the user chooses to surf. Anyone that blames a user by saying he is going to the wrong sites is just making excuses for the lack of security in MS products.

    Being from Wisconsin we would call that a good thing, especially with the insane
    heating fuel prices. Seriously we have had the warmest winter I can recall out of the 40 years I have lived here. Snowmobiling is all but dried up now except the northern reaches of the state the last few year. We are expecting a near 50 deg day today, I cannot ever remeber anything close to that in late january here.
