Anyone that really knows operating systems knows for a fact that Windows is not even in the same league as a Linux box. Hell it doesn't even come close to matching the abilities of Linux. This was a informative article but I would like to see more information on the new RedHat advanced server distro. Advanced Server 2.1 has worked very well for us but I cannot wait to get my hands on the enterprise distro with the new LVM. it rocks.
If I where a kernel developer or I had any knowledge that sco had ever sold and or distributed any code that I had developed I would be visiting the courthouse in the morning. It would be terribly easy to win a lawsuit against them for knowingly distributing and selling my IP while not abiding by the GPL license under which I distribute my code. SCO's supposed 80 lines of code does not make up for the millions of lines of other peoples IP they have illegally sold and distributed.
I just thought of something else, we would get Microsofts money....It does not get any better than that!

So say for instance we had a sue SCO day. Imagine 20,000 linux hackers and OSS developers going to their local court houses and filing a small claims suit against SCO for defamation of character and or lost revenue due to groundless claims against linux and the developers. You know there is no way that SCO could defend that many suits and all of them would be no show guarenteed wins. Wow I sure would like to have about 5 grand in my pocket at their expense.
Shit I admin over 200 linux kde desktops by myself and I think I can do well over 4 times that if asked. The 200 of them that I admin all run from a single server and takes me no more than 5 minutes a week to maintain. It sounds to me like a trip over to the Linux K12 project home page is in order for you.
I have a batch of Irish Ale in the carboy right now. A couple of nights ago I built my own force carbonator, pet bottles, some brass fittings and a bicycle emergency CO2 inflator. Now sure I could have went out and bought the stuff to force carbonate my beer, but what kind of hack value is in that. True hackers hack everything not just code. Now back to my java project....
Oh stop the bullshit, the MS stuff still crashes all the time. I have a xp box at work that crashes every three days. Now ask me what I have running on it? Not a damn thing just plain ole xp loaded from legal purchased disk. We have daily W2K crashes at work as well. How about MS ethernet drivers just going brain dead and working intermittently. The list goes on.............
Theo decided to be a politician instead of a hacker and quickly found out that the two mix poorly. Besides why is he off ranting about the war while accepting blood money from the very institution he opposes.
Cool but the source is not yet released. It is pretty obvious that it is based on SWT widgets, a very good choice in it's design. He also mentions plugins so I would also assume that it is based on the eclipse jface framework. The release license will probably dictate the outcome.
Well perhaps a web service or many web services that answers on your behalf and also happens to be a peer on the network. Just because it is p2p does not mean that servers cannot be used with it. Most of this stuff I would assume will be added as gateway services. This of course also allows you to grow functionality without reconfiguring the entire network.
How can anybody even consider this book as being serious. I only know one or two people that even use perl for web development anymore. The only people I still see using perl are the ones that are scared to learn a new language. This book is a history book in my opinion.
Turn the screws MS I just love it...

Boy I hope they keep turning the screws on their customers, I just love underbidding the local MS shops. They offer a MS server for emial, I throw in a linux box that does file serving , web server, database, email, vpn....makes the sale a walk in the park....Plus I offer all of that for half of the MS shops estimate...

It ain't a cluster until it has a clustered file system. Until it has that it is nothing more than another high availability solution.

IBM you are in breach of contract....Five minutes later every AIX machine in the world self destructs.
hmmm, I usually just type zip in my bash shell and it is just there? I guess, no I don't have a license for Winzip.

If SCO did release that perhaps they could be in
even larger trouble. If novell owns the rights to
the code perhaps it was never SCO's to give away.

If you live in Wisconsin like I do, brewing your own beer is not a lost art it is required.

PHD's write about buffy because they cannot code!
Mod this idiot down, he could not do half the stuff he does today on the internet if it was not for chunked encoding...
Think about it, MS cannot possibly buy SCO else the wrath of a new anti-trust suit.

Take it up to the next level and make that connector p2p based using JXTA and autodiscovery
to handle all the traffic.
Now that would be COOL!
