I was just looking at the minimum specs for running Flash version 9 http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/productinfo/systemreqs/
which apparently needs a P2-450 to run. I'm curious if this 400 MHz CPU would be fast enough for smooth playability? Lack of Flash support would eliminate a good chunk of uses for this thing.
ISP's to quit offering unlimited service, or stop overselling what they have. What's the point of having a 15 or 20 Megabit downstream, when I can only download 50 Gigabytes of traffic per month? Because i'm sure as hell not going back to renting my porn from the video store...
Oh, we're all just so impressed that you're such an uber-geek and so much more intelligent than anyone else here. You're so damned smart we'll all have to just fall on our knees and worship you.
Why is it people here feel like they always have to prove they're smarter than everyone else on/.? Are they that insecure that they have to prove themselves? The statement "Why is it people here feel like they always have to prove they're smarter than everyone else on/.?" is redundant. You should say it rather like this: "Why is it people on/. feel like they always have to prove they're smarter than everyone else?"
Hoax -noun
1. something intended to deceive or defraud: The Piltdown man was a scientific hoax.
Scam -noun
1. a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.
Does that mean we're going to see another article on how some guitarist spent two years of his life writing the login theme for Win7? Ya, totally. I hope it's Fred Frith this time, I really do.
I'll give you the HD streaming, true. However Comcast has "allegedly" interfered with VoIP as well in the past http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/03/02/139241
So it really comes back to playing fair.
What's to stop them from screwing up the HD streaming also, and then denying that they are doing anything wrong?
Perhaps people have more choices than they are aware. For example, my friend is in an area where comcast has not run their cables and he's too far from the Central Office for DSL. Therefore he called Sprint and obtained a broadband wireless card which is plugged directly into a router (no laptop required). Granted the speed isn't as fast as Comcast, however he gets about 1 Megabit down and 600 Kilobits per second upspeed regularly (with very few connection interruptions). There's also Satellite internet (which of course is a bit more restricted than most people like).
So there are viable alternatives to Cable Internet, although they can be slightly more expensive.
Whenever I buy something at a store and walk through the door setting off the alarm, I just keep going. I know I bought what's in my bag, and if they want to run after me let them. They should hire smarter checkout clerks. At the drugstore down the street, they used to have a voice that would come on in addition to a loud beeping that would say, "Pardon us. We failed to deactivate the inventory control system from your purchase. Someone will be there to assist you momentarily." (repeatedly). After a few years they got rid of that voice because the thing would constantly go off due to the items that had security tags hidden where the clerk couldn't see them.
That said, I stopped using Windows at home 2 years ago because I refuse to knowingly use any product where the company producing it treats their customers like criminals.
Update: I just called Earthlink, and they do not offer any broadband services -- not even DSL. All they have is bullshit satellite crap, which doesn't even count as broadband. By the way, Earthlink DSL is available in Georgia and they have an Atlanta office. http://www.dslreports.com/reviews/1050
I'm on Earthlink DSL right now... Granted, it's going through a Verizon DSLAM but I'd much rather deal with Earthlink for customer service.
Earthlink has offered DSL for years.
There's a guy in Paris who is without a country. Been living in the airport for decades. I've never heard that story before so I had to Snopes it. http://www.snopes.com/travel/airline/airport.asp
I'm surprised to see that this is apparently true. Crazy stuff.
If the info was confidential it probably had a confidentiality notice at the bottom of it, stating that if you are not the intended recipient that you aren't allowed to do anything with the email. I saw one of those sig's today and started to wonder if that was legally binding in any way. Maybe we will find out now!
Actually many Universities consider downloading above a certain speed download abuse, they don't care what you are downloading at all. How do they regulate that, by having each user install a download speed manager (like netlimiter) on their computers? There's no other way to control what speed a user is getting unless they implement traffic rules which would then take the user out of the loop anyway.
Unless of course your post was meant to be sarcastic, in which case, whoooosh.
In the middle east, which countries can you openly practice your religion no matter what it is? Only one country, Israel.
You can even be openly Christian and live in Isreal, as long as you don't mind a little spit on your face
I think the moral of this story is, if you don't have anything nice to say about someone on the internet, don't say anything at all.
Fuckers.
Poke someone and end up in the pokey!

Apparently the mod took the sarcasm of Z34107's first line and labeled it trolling.
It should be modded at least +1 Underrated IMO, it's a good point.

I don't see any no tea here!
There, that's better.
It is both a scam and a hoax.
So, you're saying it's a scoax then.Lacy, Lemons, and Koontz? That's either the name of a fictitious law firm or a description of my next girlfriend(s).
added the (s) to keep hope alive...

it's got a pain in all the diodes down it's left side. (and it's very depressed)

Agreed, this is more likely to be a PEBKAC.

oops...
The best part about it is, Comcast sends out those fliers to his house saying he should call them to get service :)
The issue is not affecting downloads, only seeding.
