Of course M$ claims what they are doing is inovation which is a crock and most programmers know it. The whole WMD fiasco is the failure of our intelligence agencies. Why did they fail on this and on 9/11? Who cut the CIA's budget by over 30% in the 90's? If there is blame, it can be spread over at least 2 administrations. The real fault is the gutting of the CIA by Congress in the 70's, yes the CIA needed to be put under control again (they were way out of line in some areas) but the overreaction of Congress has not been recovered from yet. Technology is wonderful but human intelligence will always give a better understanding of what's really going on.

Not true at all! Many businesses run custom software and are quite happy with it. They have no interest in having the software ported to a new OS and starting the debug process all over again. Some of those programs are very expensive and when the M$ tax is added, it's not worth it.

I work in a white box store and have several businesses that buy all their hardware from us because they want thier "standard image" loaded on it and Dell won't sell boxes without an OS. They will not pay for something they won't use (M$ tax). The only thing that will change this will be a lack of drivers for Win 2K. Most new hardware still has drivers that work on old OS's. If you know that they want to use thier software you select hardware that has good drivers, not that big a deal.

Why teachers don't know their subject:
To be a teacher today in the U. S. you have to have an education degree, you will be lucky if you get to teach the subject you have a minor in. So we have a group of teachers that supposedly know how to teach (highly questionable) but don't know the subject.

When I was in High School (class of '74) they listed the teachers degrees in the yearbook. Every teacher in my school had a bachelors in the subject they were teaching, some had a Masters in their subject. Most had a minor in education, some were working on Masters. Test scores have fallen steadily since the requirement for an education degree became common.

As for the liberal/left/secular-progressive tilt, why would anyone expect different? Universities in the U. S. all seem to tilt very left and they are the ones training/indoctrinating the teachers.

Today a Bachelors degree is worth what a High School diploma was in the fifties on the job market. When I entered a university in 1980 to be an Engineer we were told to learn the basics so that our first employer could show us the way they wanted it done. A degree just proved you were trainable! That was in the Engr 101 seminar.
