Just get a broadband connection and put in an AP. Leave it wide open and don't give it a second thought. You're running a coffee shop, dude. Not a computer lab. Concentrate on your core business. Your customers will be more than happy to respect you and there fellow users.
I was bout 8 years old walking down 2nd street with my mom in Philly. This was about, jeez, 22 years ago. The dude had it up in his store shop window. It was right next to Walt's, an old seafood restaurant that, I think, is closed now.
It made quite an impression on me at the time. I just couldn't understand why someone would write such hateful stuff and display it. Of course, I still don't understand it...
I don't think the tile and poster have much in common, though. Just a gut feeling.
Jeez, what a terrible choice for testing legal rights. Why couldn't he have picked something like "Money", "Fight For Your Right (To Party)" or "Equal Rights" by Peter Tosh.
Or maybe he's should pay the buyer to take the crappy song from his crappy collection of movie soundtracks.
"We're allowing them to run Linux as long as they allow us to manage it with Novell Directory Service."
that line is just to justify Dicomo's company's Novell expenditure. Chip Dicomo spent countless meetings selling mgmt on Novell. now, he's got a rogue linux box that makes NDS look unnecessary. of course, he's going to take a hard line! he has to justify his company's expense and his CNA training
furthermore, Jeff Shapiro firing employees that install linux is just plain stupid. any employer that takes a hardline with employees installing linux is going to be hurting in the hiring department real quick. c'mon, if you're smart enough to install linux and use it, you're already a valuable resource.
use 'em, don't lose 'em.
p.s. - if anybody been fired for installing linux, send me your resume. we'll hire you in heartbeat.
and apache. besides, check the math:
500,000 hits * 30KB = 15,000,000 KB = 15 GB
20,000 hits * 30KB = 600,000 = 600 MB
you'll probably get at least 3 servers, so that means you'll be able to handle 18,000MB with apache and linux.
is because it's some guys home machine. notice the url? san.rr.com is san antonio road runner (time warner cable modem).
try to be a little more considerate when posting stories. it's not fair to effectively revoke this guy's home net access because he wrote a good article.
i ordered from amazon, jcrew, gap, clinique.com (for mom. ..;-) and netmarket.com. everything arrived on time (read: before christmas) except netmarket.com. (it was only place i could find a black and decker scrub buster for grandma)
it wasn't until i got the confirmation email that i found out it wouldn't arrive on time. turns out that they outsource *all* they're fulfillment. most folks outsource fulfillment -- so that's not a big deal. but they outsource to tons of different vendors. of course, they didn't tell me that.
the website clearly said "pick 2nd day air to guarantee delivery by christmas". but, they dropped the ball. . .
what did i do? well, i just ran out to home depot and bought one. (ugh!)
anybody want a scrub buster? i'll have one arriving beginning of january. . .
i'm guessing that means it's not digital. ..tsk, tsk.
if that's the case, you can't reboot and switch to another box -- causes all sort of "no keyboard, no mouse" monkey business with that machine and the others.
i'm very pleased with these. i'm currently controlling over 40 servers with one console. although we only have the 8 port cybex's, the have a very nice cascade feature.
although it's a real pain to set up the on-screen menu, once it's done there's zero maintenence
yeah, this is similar to what the lxny folks are doing. i'm trying to do the same in austin, texas. fwiw, here's a snippet of an email i got from my congressman, Lloyd Dogget. if you'd like to help, i've already found a school that wants to set up a linux computer lab. drop me a line and let me know.
cheers,
robert
Thank you very much for you interest in helping Austin area schools apply for E-rate money through the Schools and Libraries Division(SLC) of the Universal Service Administrative Company. For the past two years that E-rate money has been disbursed, I have worked closely with school districts in Travis County to ensure that they apply for this money so that our students have the best tools to learn and utilize the leading cutting edge technology.
At present, SLC is currently funding year two of this project, and on May 27, 1999 the Federal Communications Commission acted to fund the E-rate to the cap of $2.25 billion. In order to find out more information about the E-rate program I suggest that you visit www.slcfund.org. In addition you might want to contact Stephanie Hamilton, Director of Technology at Austin Independent School District, to let her know of your interest.
Thank you for having the confidence in me to assistance you with this matter, and I appreciate your commitment wanting to elevate the quality of our children's education. Should you need additional information on this issue or any other issue of a federal nature please do not hesitate to contact my office.
"Linux will continue to grow as an operating system deployed on new server hardware, but much of the hype surrounding Linux will fade once Microsoft ships a service pack for Windows 2000 server," Brown said.
Didn't I hear this crap a year ago? Something like "hype will fade once Microsoft ships NT 5.0." Am I wrong?
is this a ploy by micromart "publicy traded as EBIZ" to boost stock price or what? "Gee this Linux thing is really taking off. ..and look what those EMachine guys are doing. ..hey, i've got an idea!!!"
And tsk, tsk to news.com for link to the wrong Freashmeat. (.org indeed!)
I think i'm going to berate the marketing folks here, just to get my pound of flesh. . .
And I, for one, welcome our new spam overlords.

I've seen this poster before!

Somehow I feel as if we had posted this a while ago - no search found it. i do remember that this has been talked about for quite some time, tho'.
You're right. It's been discussed since about 1985.

hey, rob. . .
how are you going to run the friends and family purchase plan?
will it be based on the user's current karma? or possibly a low user number?
i think any number

and it works great! i got it because i need instant access to email 24/7. i've tried it with the pilot. . .but it was too clunky.
but that doesn't mean i've given up on the ol' palm professional. . .or the cell phone. they all work together in peaceful harmony.
i just need to get a purse to hold them all. sheesh!

score another one for the marketing folks. how do you think Chuck D feels when he sees a mother of 2 from Kansas *rapping* about breakfast cereals?
go to http://support.dell.com. they have full specs on all their machines.
