  1. Blue Ribbon means guaranteed as non-spam? on Pay-per-email and the "Market Myth" · · Score: 1

So, if the blue ribbon means it bypasses the spam filters, does that mean I have no way of "blacklisting" an email either? If I continue to get email that I choose not to get and what to permanently filter it, will I be unable to because of this blue ribbon? My guess is that I won't, since any mailer who uses the service is probably promised that his email will go through and find the recipient's inbox guaranteed.

  7. Re:So...? on Why Johnny Can't Handwrite · · Score: 1

Cursive is sort of like diagraming sentences.

Diagraming sentences is used for about 2 years in middle school and then never used again. However, you learn a lot more about sentence structure and parts of the sentense than you do about diagrams themselves. It's this auxillary knowledge that goes along with it that makes diagramming a sentense an important teaching tool.

Cursive is similar in that the actual knowledge of writing in cursive is not as important as learning about letter interaction. My 9-year-old started cursive lettering this year and it has helped her in many ways. She's able to see how letters combine together to make single sounds a lot better.

I wouldn't care too much if she never used cursive writing in her life, but she is better off knowing how to use it.

  12. Re:Why Aren't The Costs Passed On? on Cheap Audio Production · · Score: 1

Theres no doubt about it, recording a major label album is going to cost a lot of money. Indie albums will be MUCH less.

Everything you said was informative and makes sense, especially this part. The advent of digital film making will not lower the cost of a production; it will continue to rise. The money goes elsewhere. But, like music, more and more (true) independent movies will be made.

  13. Novice User on Hyatt Discusses Tabs · · Score: 1

I would not consider myself a "power user" or "expert" and would say that as far as web browsing goes, I would be a novice. I surf for entertainment and to locate some information now and then. The internet is not inherently necessary in my line of work, and I rarely feel the need to do more than surf for leisure. However, I LOVE tabs and can't imagine life without them now. Mostly, it's to compare information that I find at multiple web sites.

The novice user gets as much use from tabs as the power user, in my opinion. Simplicity is simplicity.

On another related note, though, I DO remember getting like $2 sent to me back in the way early 90's because I sent in the UPC symbol from my Milli Vanilli cassette when their record company got hit with a class action suit. So maybe.....

  19. Re:Chuckwagon is not all that rare on Top Ten Most Collectible Video Games · · Score: 4, Interesting

Chase The Chuckwagon is not only synonymous with hunting for rare games, it's synonymous with the Great Video Game Crash of the early 80's.

Part of what led to the video game crash was the proliferation of poor quality, quickly produced games that were flooding the market. Chase The Chuckwagon came to typify exactly the type of game that was being rushed out to "cash in" on the video game craze. Owning it is like owning a piece of Enron stock. Not exactly "rare", but it has a story all its own.
