Last time I checked, in Arizona your license is still good until you are 65. If you get your license before the age of 21 it will not be good that long. In that case you will have to come in after the age of 21 to renew it. The physical license itself even looks different before the age of 21. If you have kept your nose clean and not had any tickets, it will not require any additional testing, just a fee and new picture. In fact if you have a change of address or loose your license you can go online and order another one without even going into the DMV office. One thing of note, the learners permit only allows you to drive during daylight hours and only if you have another licensed driver in the automobile with you.

Because it is the fasted speed at which I am legally allowed to travel and those who wish to pass are in violation of the law. Check the laws in various states. Idaho is one of the states which has passed the "Left Lane Vigilante" law. I assure you that if you are impeding the flow of traffic in the states where these laws have been passed that you will be cited. I don't speed much myself, but when I am trying to go the speed limit and someone, such as yourself, is going 5 under, next to a truck or another driver, such as yourself, going 5 under, and I have some hotfoot hot on my tail, and I can't get around you to get out of fireballs way, I get annoyed. Good, then you should really enjoy my story since you claim to derive some type of satisfaction from Apple quality control issues.

About 16 months ago I decided to try my first Apple product ever. I wanted an MP3 player, and decided to give an iPod a try. I purchased a silver MINI. After a few days I was hooked, and was using it all the time. 3 weeks almost to the day after purchasing it the click wheel ceased to function. I was pretty upset, as I had grown accustomed to using it almost all the time, as I travel a lot for work. Makes a great companion while traveling. Anyhow, it stopped working on a Saturday morning. I got onto Apple's website and went through all of the troubleshooting steps. It was indeed dead. I filled out the little form and recieved an e-mail back about half an hour later telling me to expect a box by Tuesday to ship back the defective device, and that once recieved a replacement would follow in a week or so. at 7:30AM Monday morning, approximately 45 hours after making my initial complaint, a box arrived by courier. I set it aside and planned to prepare and ship that night when I returned home from work. That night I opened the box to put the defective unit in for shipping. Lo and behold, there was a brand new sealed iPod mini. I literally had a replacement within 48 hours and it was a weekend. I have never had customer service that prompt from any other electronics or computer company, EVER!

Needless to say, 3 months ago when it was time to replace my aging thinkpad, I took a look at the Mac stuff. I am now the very satisfied owner of a 17" G4 aluminum PowerBook.

I don't expect any companies products to be perfect, but customer service like that I recieved from Apple goes a long way. I am confident that even if I do have trouble that Apple will go out of their way to minimize the inconvenience. I could have spent less and gotten a fine machine from another manufacturer, but it is worth it to me to pay a little more. You typically get what you pay for.

I wrote an e-mail to ultracade stating that they should never expect any business from me as their lawsuit was not only lame, but also probably would be their ultimate undoing as it is sure to be a PR disaster. Here are the highlights from the reply I recieved.

You should get your facts straight, we aren't suing anyone.

Like most things that are spread by rumor, the facts about me, UltraCade Technologies, and the M.A.M.E. emulation system are quite distorted. I will try and educate anyone who cares to listen about the reality of our marketplace and what we are doing and what we are not. Simply put, we are making an effort to stamp out the commercial sales of M.A.M.E. based systems that advertise the ability to play thousands of games while relying on the customer to obtain the ROMs which can not legally be obtained. What we are not doing is trying to claim ownership of the M.A.M.E. open source emulator or sue its authors. We are concerned about the commercial marketplace, and not the readers of the many M.A.M.E. user groups and forums.

Now that we have attempted to take legal recourse to prevent illegal competition, the same people, who steal the work of the M.A.M.E. authors, and then profit by selling machines that have no value without the pirated games being made available, turn around and cry foul when we call them on their ways. They run to the M.A.M.E. discussion forums and spread rumors about UltraCade suing the authors of M.A.M.E. or stealing the M.A.M.E. engine. I'm amazed at the response of the community, a community that is being whipped into action by the same people who are stealing and profiting from them and they're efforts. Many people have reacted with hate mail without even considering to look at the facts of the situation, or to realize who is spreading the rumors. They are being spread by those who wish to profit by selling unlicensed games.

This is a complex case amongst companies that are trying to make it about UltraCade stealing something from the M.A.M.E. team. That is not what this is about. This is simply UltraCade Technologies and other publishers doing whatever it takes to protect our commercial interests and prevent other companies from stealing our market by capitalizing on unlicensed games and selling products that only have value when coupled with illegally obtained games. Our application towards a trademark is to simply prevent anyone from commercially marketing an illegal product, nothing more. There have been no lawsuits filed against any of the M.A.M.E. authors, and there have been no claims towards the open source engine, nor will there be. We are simply protecting our commercial market, and nothing more. We have no interest in the hobby community. We have no interest in the open source project. Our goal is to simply stop the rampant piracy in our marketplace, and we will use every means at our disposal to do so.

I welcome open discussions about this situation, and will respond to legitimate communications or questions.
