Actually Terrorism defined as you see it is incorrect. I unfortunately do not have a formal definition of it, but it has to do with types of warfare.
A standard 'war' involved a large amount of organized troops.
"Guerilla Warfare" is a smaller subset of an organized army that carries out 'hit and run' tactics on armies (see: Viet Cong).
"Terrorism" is the smallest subset of an army. Semi organized, and uses violence against innocents (not armies) to terrorize people into achieving their goals, be it political, religious, or social.
The US Army isn't really a true definition of a 'terrorist' in, say, Iraq. They are fully organized and a large military. Sure, its terrorizing to see all those guns and merely the presence of them, and sometimes the tactics they used can be similar to terrorists (though they do not intentionally attack innocents, they are after insurgents, guerillas, and terrorists), they are not, say, threatening to behead an innocent mother unless the terrorists out themselves.
Hopefully I gave you a little insight to your claim. The US Army is a standard army practicing general warfare, not guerrilla warefare, and not terrorism.
This is a study, just like the other studies made. Because this one says what you want to hear, doesn't make it 'truth.'
The fact of the matter is that unless we can relive history and remove music piracy, we will never know for sure if it was 'the cause' of the decline or not.
This is another study and should be treated just like the ones that 'say piracy is the reason for the decline' are.
Not many people are going to even comment except rabid liberals, rabid conservatives, and rabid liberterians. And they are going to argue and argue and argue to try to turn the other to their side (which is impossible).
Of course, there will be some jokes, but those will drown in a poll of foaming at the mouth arguments when this story hits about 2k comments.
Heh... there is no point to the debate. If there was concrete evidence that we were all created from God, there'd be scientists denying the fact. If there was concrete evidence of evolution, there'd be scientists denying the fact.
Sorry, you just can't convince the other side, just like the other side can't convince you.
The entire KDE desktop environment is decked out like this, and as George puts it, 'Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X have a long way to go to catch up with the robust, transparent functionality that KDE has provided since version 2.0.'
And the entire Windows OS is decked out with enough user friendliness for most people to use, and, as I put it, 'KDE has a long way to go to catchup with the userfriendliness of Mac OSX and Windows.
Windows, as much as everyone hates it, is still more user friendly than KDE. If they'd spend more time on user friendliness and less on robust (aka confusing, complex) features, they'd find more people willing to try it out.
I'm reading too many "Well I'm glad I don't get TiVo" or "This will KILL TiVo."
No, what will kill TiVo is all of television, TV, and sporting leagues suing the pants off of them for providing something that the can prove is illegal (like viewing NFL games outside the specified market area). This is a setup to allow people to share shows amongst TiVos, but making sure they have a legal basis to not get sued.
TiVo has already been hacked (and TiVo doesn't punish for it), so how long do you think it'll be between when TiVo allows program sharing and someone hacks it so you can avoid these new rules?
Now I remember you. Used to think I was after you. Real paranoid type. Also one of the zealot types that usually gets infuriated with me. I'll be sure to ignore you from now on...
But to give some defense to all those links you put up... most are completely taken out of context... Allow me to demonstrate:
As far as editors, I think they do a piss-poor job. They don't spellcheck, they don't check for dupes, they send out slashcode updates before bugtesting them, and moderation is broken. I complain about them all the time. I am willing to defend myself if you want to talk about any of these points, but I really didn't become vocal about it until I got personally insulted by michael in my own journal entry (you can look it up, seems you have more time on your hands than me).
This one really got me, though: a hint of GNAA membership. Don't you dare associate me with those ignorant childish punks. My post pointed to the edit history page of a wiki they were editting. That had all IPs of people putting up GNAA crap. Was to notify the public of the IPs so they can block them.
Everything else is pretty much either taken out of context, or overexaggerated to make me look bad. Really, your post is more of a troll than anything I've written in this story. Truely a sad case of someone so obsessed they end up being what they hate.
And I'm sure you will have lots to say about this post, but I assure you that I won't read it, so don't bother writing it.
I don't mind the reply. Its quite insightful. However, troll? Come on, I usually say the opposite of what slashdot thinks (MS isn't always a problem and linux isn't always the answer), but a troll? That's a bit harsh.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is just some guys idea. A lot of people have ideas... what makes this one great enough that, say, Sony would start making the cameras he is suggestions?
WELL SAID! Wow.... I think the game developer was successful at something. Showing people not to take a thing for granted. If its in their power to pass laws, they got caught off guard for forgetting something. Once they correct this part, the developer may bring another event player out to play off of something else they forgot.
A lot of people complain about B&W because of some of the gameplay - micromanaging the stupid creature and babysitting villagers, it all got a bit awful.
Actually, when people sat down to actually understand the game it was quite brilliant. If you took the time to teach (micromanage) your creature a TON at the beginning, he was intelligent enough to do the micromanaging of the villagers afterward. There were times in the game I'd simply turn the game on at night, let it run through the night, and come back the next day to find out disasters had struck and my animal (good cow) had taken care of everything already.
What I'd like to see is another dungeonkeeper game (yeah, it was bullfrog, but still Molieaux was in charge of it).
Honestly, is this really that special? I've been using dual monitors for a while and KNOW I'm not the first nor anywhere close to it. Yeah, its nice if you can afford to have two monitors (and the hardware to support it).
The best review he did a year or two ago was which card gave you the best bang for your buck (it was something like fps/$). The answer was the Radeon 9600XT, which is the card I bought. Wasn't the best, wasn't the fanciest, but it was a lot cheaper than the other cards, and I don't notice the difference between 60fps and 75fps.
Sure, it sounds nice for the gov't to track down bad guys, but what if the technology to do this becomes public? Most of the/. population won't be able to pass notes to girls without them finding out who its from!!!
...... and how is this news?
Seriously. AOL probably already operated this way anyway, so what's the big whoop?

A place to talk politics that will start off intelligently, and end in a bloodbath where only the extreme sides remain.
And no one will change their mind, regardless.
WHAT FUN!

How long between when SWG was originally launched until now?
I wanna know how long its been for SWG to become everything people EXPECTED out of the game before it was released.
Seriously... how long have people played this 'StarWars' game without the main element?

HAND.
the old troll, FortKnox sputtered:

Since you have an awful lot of money, how does an average joe, such as myself, convince you to simply give me.... oh.... $500k or so?
What's worse is there hasn't been a discussion about Halflife the motion picture which is also now in production...

I tried to set up two second hand 21" monitors but it simply didn't fit on my desk.
;-)
Now you're just gloating ya lucky SOB

... featuring interviews with adult Neopets addicts...
Umm... if ADULTS are getting addicted to Neopets, I think, most likely, that's the least of their problems....

Quick question... when is slashcode going to a production release? Its been in beta for like 5 years now!
that one's gone, now, too (at least the pics).
Sure, it sounds nice for the gov't to track down bad guys, but what if the technology to do this becomes public? Most of the /. population won't be able to pass notes to girls without them finding out who its from!!!
I agree. The only thing 3rd parties can hope for is that their opinions are at least heard!
Shouldn't you mention that you were paid for this review? (I dunno if it was free tickets or paid advertising, but it was a 'forced' review).
