Because that's not how Amazon works. Just because someone had a bad experience with a particular seller doesn't mean that you'll even get it from the same merchant. You're supposed to review the product. If you want to review the seller, then you do so after you finish the transaction with them. Amazon doesn't make this clear enough, in my opinion,
When outages cost you millions of dollars per minute, you're willing to spend the money on having a well-tested walled garden. This isn't appropriate for every business case, but there are definitely those who need that level of reliability.
Acually, the turbo button was for slowing down the computer. You left it in turbo mode all the time, unless you needed to run some poorly-written software that required the lower clock speed.
fueleconomy.gov says you're exaggerating. The original EPA sticker for the 1989 240SX was for 26MPG highway with the manual transmission. The automatic was 25MPG. 30MPG might be doable if you drive very carefull.
Yeah...it showed up a day or so after I posted it. Very strange - the db claimed that the comment UID was invalid for a while. Perhaps it was a transient problem. Sorry for being so acerbic, but I've felt the heavy hand of/. admins before. I made the mistake of replying to the "post of doom" many years ago, and I was banned from moderating (by Michael) for a looong time.
Wow...I'm not really sure what to say. I created a comment yesterday, and the message ID for it is no longer found. It didn't portray this new section in a positive light, so perhaps the powers that be removed it? If that's the case, slashdot has gotten a LOT worse than I previously imagined.
This is crap. I mean that seriously - I've been here for over a decade, and this is the first time I'm actually concerned for the future of the site. Not in the way that it will "run out of funding and close", but in a way that all the readers who make/. what it is will vanish.
Do you still provide the source code that runs the site? I remember that slashcode.com would track your changes in the past. Is this still true? I see that the last post there was in 2009.

That's when you tell them that your contracting rate is $300/hour, with a four-hour minimum.
They also support a liquid cooling option :)
IBM fabs its own CPUs for the mainframes, and they are currently clocked at 5.5GHz, which is the fastest shipping processor in the world.

The name of the particle is the Higgs Boson. The article title is incorrectly using the possessive form.
The Trackpoint in the middle of your keyboard is a wonderful thing. Give it a shot - you just might fall in love with it.

This is the most appropriate "Redundant" moderated post I've ever seen.
It's especially fun trying to hit it from a laggy VNC connection.
Wow...that guy was trolling ArsTechnica a decade ago. Interesting to see that s/he is still up to their old tricks.
You just need to read it in a Dr. Evil voice.
Because then you'll waste writes on /tmp and /var.

Please stop what you're doing.
I had to change my long-standing nickname to log back in. I've had an account here since 2001 or so.

Deep geeky stuff please. This is News for Nerds. If you can't get into details here, then where can you?
Well said, Bruce. Work-life balance is one of those things that you begin to appreciate more as you get older.
