    For a decent user interface.
    For free, professional, in person help in every major city in the world.
    For not wasting 200 hrs on configuration.
    For a good API & Xcode.
    For a useful command-line.
    For smart standards & consistently.
    For fighting entropy.
    For letting me get stuff done quickly.
    For a free HW swap within warranty.
    For useful online documentation.
    For a ridiculous resale value.
    For BSD / Unix.
    For superior security.

    The computer / network is just a tool that lets me do the stuff I need to do.

    I *know* I could make a better time machine / mouse trap / etc. And it would be cheaper. I know.

    I willingly pay a premium so I don't have to mess with that crap. That's the same reason I have a newer, reliable car - instead of one I built myself from parts. I don't want a lifestyle, I want a reliable tool. I'm an IT pro, I mess with tech for a living, not a hobby.

    Companies like Apple sell more than just hardware, they sell integration and consistent design. Sometimes you really can pay for convenience. For me, it's worth it. My time is not free.

    Sounds just a little bit like professional jealousy.

    John Young at Cryptome has been doing an amazing job for years with integrity - and getting relatively little press. Then along comes this punk... who scoops this amazing data and strikes a goldmine of press.

    The Cryptome site is practically spitting with raw disdain the WiliLeaks. It's kind of sad.
