  1. palumboism on How Venture Capitalist Peter Thiel Plans To Live 120 Years · · Score: 1

Many amateur and professional body builders feel suspect that excess HGH leads to palumboism, which caused disfigurement and early death. The observation is that 70s and 80s generation body builders, who took a lot of anabolic steroids, but not much else didn't get it. While several 90s gen body builders, who took HGH did.

    > I don't expect the birds to actually get that far...and even if they did, we'd just be accusing them of impersonating Messiaen's works. So we will have: Prelude and Fugue No. 1 in C major for the well-tempered hermit thrush . . . but if an equal tempered Hermit Thrush ever comes along and uses a dominant 7th to modulate to the key of G we'll all be flabbergasted.

AFAIK, nicotine acts in a similar fashion to monamine oxidise inhibitor (MAO) mood stabilizers. It can be administered as required, and the dose easily controlled. I wonder if we could get the same benefits by vaping, while losing some of the negative health consequences?

  9. Smokeres lose 13.4 years not 8 on Mental Illness Reduces Lifespan As Much as Smoking · · Score: 1

  10. PureData on Ask Slashdot: Why Are We Still Writing Text-Based Code? · · Score: 2

There are some graphical programming languages - PureData is one. Quick summary: Pd enables musicians, visual artists, performers, researchers, and developers to create software graphically, without writing lines of code. Pd is used to process and generate sound, video, 2D/3D graphics, and interface sensors, input devices, and MIDI. I used it recently on a project and really enjoyed it. (Used it to remix the Australian Chamber Orchestra in real-time on iPads). Other folks are doing fantastic things with it too - check out the Rj Voyager App. Although Pd is a turing complete language, I wouldn't want to write anything but specialized applications with it. Text-based OO is just so fluent and fast.

You need to learn and become aware of these subtle differences yourself - handling each case separately. After a while you'll notice that you're doing this over and over again: Consider instead writing your own utilities to do DOM manipulation and other common features. And you'll no-doubt be relying on these utilities a lot, so it would be wise to allow accessing them using terse, short-hand method - the '$' symbol could work wonders here!!

These concepts also fit the analogy all too well!
