"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea." - DNA

  16. I have Seen It For Years!! on Ask Slashdot: Breaking the Computing Bottleneck? · · Score: 1

Its Simple, Its 2 words, it would be incredably fast... Flash Rom, High Capacity Flash Rom cards, or whatever you would like to call them, it allmost has to be the future of storage (other than organic, which would probably be painfully slow, and might start stinking after awhile) If you had flash that was as fast as todays ram, you could remove the need for ram allmost entirly, and the more that is mad the less expensive it is, Imagine running linux off flashrom, you would probably be running nearly 100 times faster, and with no moving parts.. you should have no HDD Crashes.. flashrom can accomidate the size of next generation machines and when upgrading is just plugging in a new PCMCIA sized card... wow..

Forgive my grammer and spelling, this is rant mode..

  17. Re:Date the patent was filed... on Another Transmeta Patent · · Score: 1

I do belive these guys are affiliated with the government, and the military, according to most insiders, the military is TEN YEARS in advance to anything we have now, if you look at the way technology has developed in the last 10 years it gives you a pretty good Idea of where they are now, probably cold fusion and the whole 9 yards, antigravity (suppose to happen iin our life time), advanced cloaning technology. and computers that make that HAL (the programable logic hal not 2001) look like a 286, The United states, a great place to visit, here in canada the government is too dumb to do anything super secret.. =)

I dont know about anyone else, I could care less what I am payed as long as it covers my need's and at least some of my wants and the work is intresting constantly changing and I am learning something, face it to be a geek is not just to enjoy technology, math or other, but to be constantly learning new aspects of that subject, If I ran out of stuff to learn I would go work on cars till I knew them to the best of my ability, then something else.

As for putting other packages into the /opt directory I find it better than having them all over the place, and if you must rais Sh$t about it you can change the installation path to something else, why is it when a good thing comes along there are allways people there to shoot it down, I have had less problems with red hat than anything else, probably due to the fact the take on a well planned directory system.

  22. Red Hat Takes Over The Industry!? on Ask Slashdot: Perceptions of Red Hat Software · · Score: 1

I hope they do, at least they have proven their ability at doing things properly, remember you can still get RED HAT free of charge from their ftp site, is that something a blood set borg'd out company like Micro$haft would do?, I think not.. but lets look at a pc world dominated by Red Hat.. everyone running E. having total flexabilty in their operating system.. no hardware problems.. high speed update's.. trovold could work for them.. make a billion a year.. what's the problem with that.. as you can tell I am all for Red Hat, but only beacuse they have time and time again demonstrated their ability to turn out a useable full fledged distribution.. "hail to the king baby" =)
