So am I to believe that either, the children will be wearing low jacks a la out on parole convict, have these things stapled to them like some sort of in store garment dye tag or implanted under the skin at the back of the neck directly below the bar code?
I can not see any other way of guarenteeing the child is where the tag says they are.
    Gotta say this...
    In Japan parents tag you.

  4. Where this may be interesting on The Future of the kids.us Internet Domain · · Score: 1

Although I agree with some posters stating that children can make decisions and other posters saying that children need to be directed into making their decisions correctly, I wonder who's morrals will be followed in the sphere of this domain? Will it be some bible thumping conservative nut job who goes overboard or another form of fanatic, or even decision by committy, which could be worse than either.
I for one want to see what happens with seach engines directed specifically at kids.us. It should be interesting to see a domain specific search that has an interface designed for, lets say kids aged ~3 to ~12. Or some segmentation of this age range.
Whether or not .kids.us can be completely secure from preditors or pr0n, I don't know. As well as, I personnaly question the ability of others to judge what is appropreate viewing for my children... I base this on past experience with the likes of Tipper Gore and the PMRC (Peoples Music Rights Commision) or the nut jobs that got merry go rounds outlawed in Canada because a few too may children flew off and the ones who got play grounds converted into zero story climbing apparati painted on the soft rubber flooring.
I want to see a safe place where children can be children but I don't want to see a bubble room where nothing touches them and they touch nothing.
As a designer we are told to design things which can not cause harm to children, or are not dangerous. I believe that life threatning danger is something that should be avoided, but damn if kids need to hurt themsleves once in a while in order to learn some things. How many of you touched the stove after being told not to? How many of you did it again?
Granted images and or thoughts given to children at impressionable ages have unknown effects on their future development, and some limitation on what they can see or read is important, but who is to say things like same sex couples, people or pets passing away, or a host of other topics children see in the real world and go looking for answers, can or can not be answered where they can find them.
If a child sees two men holding hands on the street and thier parents don't give a believeable answer, where does the child go when kids.us search engine doesn't return any hits or returns hits from some religious fanatical association condemning it as blasphemy. The child will either go to other sources, the regular internet, or they believe what they see and become gay bashing teenagers when they grow up. Granted I stated that the effects on their future development of what they read or see can not be fully known, but if you only ever hear that something is bad, or good with no other choice, you tend to believe it.

SP2 will also include a new feature which will bring back an old friend of ours. Ever since the demise of the blue screen of death, customer calls and upgrades have been down. They are working around the clock on a newly branded moire of death which they feel will be just as impactful as the origional blue screen but with a friendlier look and feel.

Designers call it 'going back to the hitory closet' when they use past styles as a basis for new designs. Good ideas are good ideas no matter what skin you put on them. FPS games work because the genre works, although there are some memorable wish I could forgets, most follow the same concept, kill an opponant from the killers point of view, and that concept works.
Does anyone remember a video game called, I hate to give my age away by bringing this one up, Jane of the jungle? Not the best game but it had some cool quirks, such as if you didn't do anything for a period of time, jane would start to tap her toe waiting for you, if you still did nothing for about a min, she would look at her watch.
It would be nice to see some more interesting things like this happening in games, not that I think they would be better for it, but it would show a level of having fun with the game while creating it.
Sorry about that side track... where was I? Oh yeh, Nostalgic works well for things that were clasic due to some form of non-marketed love by people. The new beetle and the new mini are proof of that, Harleys have stayed basically the same for ever, but what do you think the chances of a nostalgic 80's K-car doing well.
    Back to games.
Xaxonn for the coleco was pretty cool as was donkey kong, but you don't see many ripoffs of xaxonn do you? Why is that? Because the genre of 3D that the game was advanced for in it's day has gone well beyond what xaxonn did. Now a 3D FP donkey kong would rock as a nostalgic new game. Super Mario or Mario Cart not withstanding

It is about time theatres have taken it under their mandate to try and help the studios out on this one. Although, from various news sources and from /., I realize most recordings are inside jobs. Who knows it may go up to the top. If a manager knows it is happening or is actually in on it, I am sure there is a tidy bit of cash for him to make or at least favours to get by handing out copies to friends.
I gave up going to the theatre due to high costs and lack of value. Now I just wait the three to 6 months and watch it at home on the wide screen. At least I won't get busted for making out with my fiancee if things get to heavy.
I am just waiting for the guy who works in the theatre, donning these new fangled night vision goggles, to sue the theatre because they didn't give him proper training . I am sure someone, somewhere will forget to take them off when the lights go on.
Barring human stupidity, I just wonder what effect on your vision wearing these things for, lets say 6 hrs a day, three days a week, for the average teen kid working at a theatre part time. I also wonder how the bright flashes of light comming from the screen effect your vision over time. Whenever you see a movie where some guy is hunting down some other guy, or girl for that matter, and is wearing night vision goggles, inevitably the hunted use some bright light to blind the hunter... Does anyone have any first hand knowlege of the damage to the eyes, or if the pain and squinting you see in the movies during these scenes is true to fact?

We do however endeavour to force people into accepting the fact that
technology is not infallible and that glitches occasionally occur.
To this end I must stress that although all our products are tested in controlled
