Indeed. I'd even say this applies to ANY creative realm. You could write Marvel or DC every day saying "OO I have a cool idea!" and their response will be something along the lines of "So do the other 1,000 people we received letters from today." (I may or may not have received such a letter as a kid:))
Hell even the pros have to come up with a fleshed out concept, characters, storylines, etc.. I remember reading in Wizard Mark Waid's outline for the new Ka-Zar comic a decade ago. At that point he had plenty of success under his belt, but he still had to give Marvel something to get them to consider it and approve it.
EXACTLY! This girls mother even admitted in interviews that the girl had issues with depression. If I knew that about my kid I'd not be letting them spend huge amounts of alone time on the Internet and I'd be trying to monitor the time the did spend on there with reasonable steps.
I feel for her family, but the reality is, she did it to herself because of her own inability to cope. Sorry, mom.
Now we're going to get a bunch of "think of the children!" laws passed with the potential of A) wasting tax money on sound bites B) potentially infringing on others rights.
This is what I keep telling people that I know that are hardcore Obama supporters and think he'll turn it all around. It isn't the politicians it's the rubes on the street that are the real problem.
Who needs labels anymore anyway? If someone is interested enough in truly making music, they should find a way to do it and make money off it.
It isn't like labels are really promoting anything worthwhile anyway. They're more like a marketing machine. Miley Cyrus or Cute Cookie Cutter Female Singer #324,234,465 hardly qualify as "artists".
What's needed is iTunes that let's anyone on and you screw all to the record companies by finding a way to record your music w/o them. Home recording is hella cheap compared to a couple decades ago and there are ways of gettin' real studio time. Until you're good enough to warrant it though, flip burgers and pinch pennies. No different than any college kid eating a case of ramen a week.
Sadly I can't really laugh at this. I live in Portland, OR. I use to not have a problem, when Ubuntu 8.04 was out, my torrent for that was blazing. I tried to download the updated disc image (mostly to see if Comcast had started to pull their shenanigans) and it starts out blazing then begins to peter out to 10-15k/s
You know what else would help prices drop? Decreasing demand.
Bit of a thought here: Say you're stuck on an island w/ 3 others. There is enough food, but one of these people is a fatass who likes to eat a lot. He starts to eat more than the others and suddenly there becomes the potential of a "food crisis".
Assume it's also very difficult to quickly grow more food on this island for whatever reason.
You have some options: Kill the fat fuck. Force him to eat less. Die of hunger.
Is it really a "right" to drive? Are others who choose not to drive being deprived of rights (to an unmolested environment, clean air, and less concern for the impact of relative gluttons?)
Yeah China is worse. But it's FUCKING CHINA. Like they have a wonderful track record. On top of it all, FOREIGNERS in another country are subject to local laws/customs. What did they think because they're hosting the Olympics all the sudden China isn't run by a bunch of shit heads?
Also, what are you saying? That thanks to Tor, you're OK with warrantless wiretaps now? Because you have the knowledge to cover your tracks, it's OK! I remember reading on/. that Tor is not exactly fool proof, maybe things are better now, I don't use it.
My comment was meant as a sarcastic swipe at hypocritical politicians decrying the snooping on FOREIGNERS in a host country (especially when that host country is China, WTF did they expect??). Meanwhile in the U.S. they're snooping on their own fucking citizens without so much as having to show any proof of wrong doing or letting you know about it. But apparently it's not such a big deal because you know you can rent your own fucking server and use Tor.
In this context this is utterly hypocritical for Sen. Brownback to be taking a swipe at a country with China's record (I continue to be in shock and awe that anyone expected different in the first place) when things have been moving down a parallel (perhaps not IDENTICAL) path.
You know this irked me enough that I actually sent Sen. Brownback's office an e-mail. Seeing as how I don't live in Kansas, I wrote one to my states senators (Oregon) and my rep. (Blumenauer). It won't do any good, I'm sure of that, however at least I feel a bit better.
I'm sure I'm on some watch list now. I haven't had many positive things to write them about.
Yeah I was thinking something similar. On the upside, at least in China you KNOW when the government is watching. They aren't that courteous in the U.S..
How can this be allowed in the U.S., which seems to me to be in direct conflict with the 4th Amendment? I'm truly curious, as I said, IANAL. Is there something out there that allows this?
Why do I fear the answer will be "It's true it is against the 4th Amendment. However the U.S. Constitution is pretty much a piece of ass wipe your elected officials use daily anymore."
Free will is the ability to make a decision -- to choose whether to behave one way or the other.
Personally I choose spin up. Spin down just seems so depressing.
By doping, which is "bad", the athlete is increasing his ability to overcome the environment.
By using technology we're mitigating the effects of the environment on their performance. That's good?
The spirit of the Olympics is long gone.
It has the BEST DRM. Without an internet connection... You can't play.
BSD never gets hacked unless it's playing a prank on its admin.

Troll? What a joke.
*bdum-tsch!*
The first hit from your link is this /. story, upon which the first comment is yours. I just spent the last hour going in circles!

Thanks everyone, be sure to tip your waitress!!!!

Bah that's nothin', I keep that stuff in a pile specifically for lighting the grill with my chimney starter :)
Yes, I love those that argue that companies have a right to protect their bottom line... BY DENYING PEOPLE HEALTH CARE.
Despite what the majority of people in the U.S. believe, DRIVING is a privilege NOT a human right. You can live long and prosper without driving.
The same CANNOT be said without proper health care.
Of course I'm preaching to the choir here, but sometimes it's the only crowd that follows along.
All MMO's are dead to me except one

Dicks
We may not be responsible for the CURRENT trend... but come on, our consumption is insane compared to the rest of the world.
See there was part of my problem. I had simply AdBlock standard installed. Dangit!

I'm not defending either way, just supposing.
The summary they posted is not at all what I wrote, but that's exactly the first thing that popped into my head when I read the article myself.
Right after I buy a Lenovo IdeaPad where one of the "selling points" was it's nVidia discrete graphics.
Sorry, I was distracted by the picture of the BREASTS on TFA page
