You really think that big media and software companies are operated with honesty in mind?
DMCA, never ending copyright, trying to get the Feds to prosecute IP infringement (a civil offense). nothin' like using tax dollars to defend a companies bottom line! trying to shut down usenet, billions in tax breaks and the right to gouge customers for broken promises of faster internets for everyone, the lunacy of OOXML/ISO debacle, embrace/extend/extinguish, patent system filled to breaking point with bullshit patents... all lookin' to squeeze as many bucks out of us as possible, off shore tax shelters, out-sourcing jobs only to turn around and ask us to buy their imported shit...
Apple stock selling at inflated prices? Next you're going to suggest that their hardware is similarly over priced. That no one could sell hardware capable of running Mac OSX for less. It's inconceivable!
Term limits: If they can do it to the President, Congress should have the guts to impose them on themselves.
Bills should have mandatory review after x amount of years. I figure at least this will keep them busy enough they won't have time to pass as many stupid "laws".
Whatever happened to the "your rights end where mine start" thing? If someone can't drive w/o enhancements, that's a public safety risk. Second, technology fails, especially when it's developed by corporations motivated by profit margins.
It's situations like this I think of the line in Armageddon, about the rocket full of fuel containing a nuclear warhead and thousands of moving parts being built by the lowest bidder.
The answer is: They honestly have no idea. They're trained to say what corporate tells them.
Training typically focuses on trying to sell you on gizmo features and plan upgrades. They simply ARE NOT given that sort of info and, in my experience, the people that work these jobs are not the type to go the extra mile to figure it out or in some cases don't want to say the wrong thing and have an angry customer come back and throw the phone at them (seen it happen over the most marginal shit.)
This is the second post on here talkin' about EA busting balls to force Bioware to make something. The other being about them forcing Bioware to make an MMO, which they were making over a year before the EA merger.
To clarify, EA had no say in the previous KOTOR projects. It was between Bioware/Lucasarts for the first one and Lucasarts/Obsidian/Bioware (offering tech support/advice on the toolset) for KOTOR2.
Now if you meant it was Lucasarts brass that HAD TO HAVE THE GAME OUT NOW then OK, I've heard that plenty myself. The second game was released in 2005, 2 years before the merger.
I have less of an issue with NASA being over budget than something like the census bureau. Trust our government to take one simple, Constitutionally mandated action (counting heads) and blow as much tax money on it as they can.
You know I thought about that. I looked at a bunch of barebones systems, processor and RAM prices, hard drive prices... but I couldn't get one configured the same for 800 bucks. Plus I can't say for sure the ones I looked at were as compatible with Linux as the IdeaPad seems to be (I could probably Google but there goes more time). Also the fact that if there are any issues with a particular part, I have to disassemble the entire thing to deal with that one part and the likelihood of dealing with more than one vendor is not something I want to spend my time with either.
I realize this is/. and there is the geeky DIY thing, but the question was anyone have any experience buying a LENOVO without Windows.
I have been looking at ordering a new laptop. I have been considering the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 with the 256MB nVidia graphics card. My plan is to wipe it and use Ubuntu (according to ubuntuforums.org the Y510 is nicely compatible out of the box.) I'd rather not pay the Windows tax.
Anyone know if I talk to Lenovo I can get them to sell me the laptop without Windows?
This is horrible. This is an outrage! I'm writing Google a letter telling them how awful this is an how they need to work on the Q/A. I mean my GMail address *IS* my full name, but I'm not going to let that fact stop me from acting like an emotionally charged idiot!
I think the old skool Atari games that Gametrailers was evoking with their intro looked like more fun to me.
I guess I really don't buy the games as art thing. Occasionally a game really grabs me (I'm having fun with Oblivion right now) but I don't have the time to spend playing 40+ hours games regularly. Hell I don't get enough time to complete a lot of 15-20+ hour games.
I like my DS and pack some ROMs on my laptop. I guess that's why I also continue to subscribe to WoW. When I have some idle time I can get in there and feel I accomplished something.
That's not a very good comparison, IMO. Denmark has a population of less than 6 million people according to a Google search. The US is over 300 million. Denmark is less than 17k sq miles as opposed to the US being around 5 million. The spread out nature of the country has created huge differences in social structure.
The federal government should do what it was originally intended to do and keep its fuckin' hands out of the state's cookie jars. Individually the states are more comparable to Denmark and would be far more capable of dealing with their populations specific requirements/requests.
Most smaller businesses don't even need 24/7 staff. It's easy these days to have a proper redundancy and a "file server" crash shouldn't even be a noticeable hiccup.
If he wants something to brag about, he should be bragging not about his uptime, but that when one of the servers crashed, all the company lost out on was the server that died, and no one but IT knew it did.

fuck you and your "honest people".
ORLY!?

Monkey steals the peach?
I'd like to add a couple items

This is not at all "PC" but this line from back in the day has stuck w/ me like the GGIFT
"Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win YOU'RE STILL FUCKING RETARDED!"
Oh I suppose lawyers work for free now?
It's not about money it's about control. Money isn't even about money, it's also about control. Golden rule and all that...
From Googling around earlier, patents in question apparently have file dates back to 1996
And Sony was not sued by these guys. They were sued by a company called Immersion (I know you didn't post that, but the person above you did).
I realize the iPhone has a cool interface and all, but if so many people have a problem with Apple's tactics over this, why buy one?
It's like criticizing the makers of Soylent Green for using people as the ingredients and yet YOU STILL EAT SOYLENT GREEN.

I switched over to using OpenDNS with my Linksys router and I get redirected to their fancy advert pages when I mistype something as well.
Wow. That's some baseless grand-standing since, well, the MMO was announced well BEFORE the EA merger.
Also, I guess it's good for you that they're still making Dragon Age, huh?
I suppose Intel should ONLY make desktop processors? Or Coca-Cola should ONLY release Coca-Cola Classic? Hm?
Heaven forbid a games company should diversify the type of games they make.
Please provide links to info for all the other Star Wars MMO games in development by or licensed out by Lucasarts?
The only other Star Wars games I know of in the works are NOT MMO games.
I would suggest Slitaz myself. Hella useful, hella compact.
I have less of an issue with NASA being over budget than something like the census bureau. Trust our government to take one simple, Constitutionally mandated action (counting heads) and blow as much tax money on it as they can.
Then there is the whole pesky war thing ...

Thanks for playing though.

They already release much of it for free with adverts on the tele. Wtf is the difference?
All the more reason to hope the Wii version of Clones Wars is worth buying
