Honestly, I'm surprised to see that it has done as well as it has, although the real bottle neck won't be the processor as much as the connection probably.
They are forced to pay a very high price for it and in doing so are forced to charge a lot for it. When you get a computer from Apple get the least amount of RAM possible and buy the rest seperately.
Oh and for an interesting read on the ignorance of American's towards the rest of the world, check this out.
My favorite part is "27% of Americans think Japan is their biggest trading partner; 25% think it's China; 14% know that it's Canada.". 1/4 of the USA believe China (a communist country) is the largest trading partner with the US. I would laugh if that weren't so sad.
Democracy: There isn't a perfect society out there. And there isn't a perfect government, but to consider America's government "the best" is far, far from the truth. If you think the choice of only two presidential candidates is democracy then so be it. Myself, I live in a country with 5 major parties and while it isn't perfect, it is far better. Democracy is about choice, and an American election is more like a coin toss.
Media: State run media has the risk of being very biased, but it also has the ability, if executed correctly, to be open and free. There is nothing wrong with such projects in countries like France and England. And it will always be more honest in such countries than corporate owned ones with only one sole agenda.
Iran: I don't know what you've been taught about the goings on in Iran, but the US aided in the destruction of a democratic movement. All for their own gain.
Saudi-Arabia: Once again, their was a huge democratic movement, this time in Saudi-Arabia in the 80's against the reigning monarchy. America aided the now reigning Price back into power to ensure certain "corporate" ties. This was the reason a certain man named Osama was exiled from the country and his hate of the USA grew.
Afganistan: There has been an overwhelming amount of solid proof that the US originally aided the Taliban to gain power in Afganistan. That's why this "War on Terror" is all so ironic.
Prosperity and Freedom: Most first world countries enjoy the same amount of freedom that the US does. I have no idea what you've been taught, but the simple rights that are given to Americans do exist beyond your borders. Well all except the right to carry arms, which only exists in other countries like Israel and such. As for prosperity, I don't buy it. Are you telling me that America's homeless are better off than England's, France's and Canada's? America is the richest country in the world because they have the largest army. 49% of all arms created in America is sold to other countries. More than once your government has been caught selling those arms to direct enemies who later use those arms on America. If that's the prosperity you want to be proud of, then go ahead. Anyways, I'd much rather have national health-care and decent education. Your "prosperity" only makes the rich richer, and the poor poorer.
CNN: When I said CNN, I didn't mean that literally, it was just a mention of the mainstream media that American's listen to and believe, no matter what they say to you.
On a side note, I am most pleased with our debate. I truly appreciate the thought and time you've put into this. It beats the hell out of the guy that decided to call me fag ten times. Heh. Thank you.
The previous poster asked what country is better to live in than the US. I gave him or her the answer.
Anyways, all of these posts have NOTHING to do with liberty and democracy (my first post was referring to the ignorance of Americans), but if you want to talk about democracy and liberty, heh.
I find it odd that Americans are so forthright about democracy when all they have is a two party system. When 97% of your media is controlled by 4 corporations out to sell you things. Here's a little homework for you, use the internet, and find out what happened in the 1950's in Iran. Then find out what happened in the 1980's in Saudi-Arabia. Then what happened in the 1990's in Afganistan. You'll discover that your "Land of the free" is nothing but a bunch of greedy business men, destroying democracy for their own gain.
I'm not hating on America. I'm just trying to tell you that there is more to the story than what CNN tells you.
Actually, the "i" stands for, well, just that - I (as in me, myself and I). It is a naming scheme used for only their consumer products (as opposed to their professional lineup, the PowerBook and PowerMac).
Where would you suggest we should prefer to live? Keep in mind that we already live in the most free, most democratic, and most prosperous nation not only on earth now, but in earth's history?
Meaning what, exactly? That we're all citizens of a totalitarian dictatorship who are tricked into sending our children to blow themselves up in childrens areas of restaurants in other countries so that we won't notice how oppressive our own leaders are? Sorry, I'm not buying it...
You're more like a bunch of citizens of a totalitarian dictatorship who are tricked into believing that the country you live in is the best in the world. You aren't taught about any other countries and are viewed as extremely ignorant by the rest of the world. Your comment here just proves that.
The same goes for Apple's site. You'll be better off getting the lowest amount of RAM and HDD and then adding them yourself. Companies like Apple and Compaq sign contracts with hardware companies that will always have inflated prices.
but 20 seconds to switch windows (in the same app, no less!) is absoloutely intolerable.
Okay, what are some people doing to their computers? I just don't get these claims. I own a G3 300 which is running Mac OS X 10.1.4 and there is not that much lag at all. I am using a G4 450 at work and while it is more responsive, my G3 isn't quite the dead horse a lot of users are claiming such computers to be.
I don't know what it is, but it seems either there are a lot of trolls out there spreading FUD about OS X or my computers (one that is 4 years old) have some kind of super-hidden ability.
The worst part about all this legislation is that the people that write it think it's going to be effective, then they go back to sleep and think they've done something about violence in schools.
You hit the nail right on the head! It's odd that a government, who is spending millions of dollars a day bombing countries and shooting at "terrorists", then bragging about it on the news, feel that videogames are the root to under-aged violence.
I don't see the problem in this law (although I am Canadian so really it has little to do with me) Limiting the amount of visual violence (especially with the interactivity of video games) can't hurt.
Maybe this will convince game makers to worry more about gameplay, and less about boobs and blood.
The only reason that backwards compatibility is of any use for the PS2 is because the original playstation broke after about a few years of use. Nintendo never had to do such a thing because their systems are always made to last.
Infact, the PS3 better also be backwards compatible because the first PS2s released are now starting to fail aswell.
Unfortunatly joe Public does care about the looks, which is why we have flame wars over why Linux is not sutable for the Desktop yet
Actually, if you read all the other posts that are discussing the difficulty of installing KDE 3.0, including the reviewers comments, and the only way to work around those problems, then you'll understand why Joe Public doesn't want to use Linux on his desktop. Sorry, but you'd never get a dependency error while trying to upgrade Windows, or Mac OS X for that matter.
What the open-source community has to realize (if they WANT Linux for everyone) is that Joe Public doesn't ever want to use the CLI. Ever. He wants to double click, wait a few minutes and start using his new enviroment.
If it had much to do with looks, Win95 would never have been so popular. That was one ugly SOB.
Honestly buddy, if you want to play games, get a PC or better still a PS2. I am a hardcore Mac user, the last thing I'll ever do I toss down money for a PC (luckily the college my Mom works for loves to throw out PCs all the time), but I would never suggest that someone gets a Mac for gaming purposes. It will only aggravate you with it's year old, shoddy ports and non-existent library.
I really encourage you to save up and get a Mac (you won't regret it), but make sure you have something else to play games on.
Those patches are released by Microsoft to fix holes and bugs in their OS. If you're not keeping your system up-to-date and secure I truly doubt your an "expensive expert", just expensive (and incompetent).
I dunno, I've seen some very big stones and some very small lawyers.
I got to it at 130 hits.
Honestly, I'm surprised to see that it has done as well as it has, although the real bottle neck won't be the processor as much as the connection probably.
Here's to another 130 hits!
Just so everyone knows:
DON'T BUY RAM THROUGH APPLE!
They are forced to pay a very high price for it and in doing so are forced to charge a lot for it. When you get a computer from Apple get the least amount of RAM possible and buy the rest seperately.

Okay, if we must continue...

Blissful thinking my friend.
Too bad the UN doesn't agree with you. (Warning, it's a PDF)
Get your head out of your asses and wake up.
BTW, I'm from Canada. I know all too well about the ignorance of my southern brothers.
Meaning what, exactly? That we're all citizens of a totalitarian dictatorship who are tricked into sending our children to blow themselves up in childrens areas of restaurants in other countries so that we won't notice how oppressive our own leaders are? Sorry, I'm not buying it...

and as soon as you hit puberty and start shaving, you'll have to start buying replacements. trust me, i was in the same boat kiddo.
=)

Hee hee.
I think this is the first typo that ever made me bush --err, I mean blush.

Ahh, you moderators sure are funny.

Nope, only the extremely violent ones.

Great moderation. Instead of actually doing what you should have done (moderating the parent up) you moderate the only child post "redundant".
I delcare that 90% of all Slashdot moderators are tools, and should be shot in the head.

And if you had read the article you would know that he was already diagnosed with clinical depression amongst other things.
Read the what? It's a well known fact that an "article" is only an urban legend. Quit being so foolish.
97.4% of slashdot users, the popular Microsoft bashing site, are using Internet Explorer.
Those figures just show that 97.4% of the people know what they are talking about from experience... errr, yeah, thats it. =)
No weekly patches, reboots or service stoppages
Those patches are released by Microsoft to fix holes and bugs in their OS. If you're not keeping your system up-to-date and secure I truly doubt your an "expensive expert", just expensive (and incompetent).
Naked Frodo?
C'mon, you want to see it too.
Well, his feet are just so big, you have to wonder....
