You (and everyone else I've read) missed one big thing that the iPod has on all of the other digital music players - accessories.
I'm not talking about the speakers, cases, and fm transmitters. I'm talking about Audi, BMW, and Ferrari. I'm also talking about Pioneer, Monster, Alpine, and Kenwood.
These companies know where the market is and where it is moving. While GM and Ford are not on the list that Apple haves of iPod-compatible cars, I would not expect them to wait much longer. The fact that your _car_ doesn't work with anything other than an iPod is pretty good incentive to get an iPod.
Maybe it would be good to include a "report typo" link somewhere.
You talk about how Slashdot is a community site, yet you are imposing your own values about grammar onto this community. I recognize that this is your right to do this, but also recognize that it is less of a community if you choose to do so.
It could easily be an automated process. A user clicks "Report typo", there are two blanks: original sentence and corrected sentence. If 5-10 users correct the grammar exactly the same way an automated message goes to an editor, who then has the ability to update the article or deny the grammar change (in case of vandalism.)
This would provide an outlet for those users that demand grammatical perfection without it flowing into the comments. They post their correction, the editor gets notified, and the Slashdot community is happier about this issue. Sure, they'll find something else, but that's what happens when you are catering to perfectionists.
You actually think Taco refers to Mexican sandwiches?

This is doable in the Monitor System Preference. Also, I know of several 3rd party monitors that rotate. Rotation was supported for OS9 by a 3rd party Control Panel, but no one supported it in OS X until Tiger.
I don't necessarily see it as a sign of things to come, just a requirement that should have been it OS X 10.0, or at least 10.2.
If and when Windows is runnable on Apple hardware, I could see cross-platform companies standardizing on Apple. Hardware and software now are much more flexible than otherwise, as the user (or their manager) could determine the operating system that they need, rather than having to either buy a new computer or reshuffle computers to accommodate.
The solution to this problem is this: Make it possible to filter out stories by submitter. Now, I had never heard of Beatles-Beatles before, but I have heard of Roland Piquepaille (you can cut and paste, right?). I also don't particularly like his way of posting stories, so I don't want to read them. Any of them.
The other thing that I have to say is that it is not uncommon for posts claiming that their submission of the same story wasn't posted, but Roland's was, despite theirs being submitted hours before. I tend to agree with them. I've had stories that I've written summaries to that get rejected, but then show up under other submitters.
"The site is actually down, which is a shame; it would have been a nice oppurtunity to see if we could get Zonk thrown in jail for posting it on the Slashdot front page."
Too bad Roland Piquepaille didn't submit it, and JonKatz didn't post it.
(I realize JonKatz hasn't posted in a really long time, but it still would have been better to throw him in jail, rather than Zonk.)
I would imagine that all of these companies know full well that while the name and idea of King Kong are public domain, the current likeness is not. Using it in their marketing campaign would be legal suicide.
Also, these companies know full well that they must use the CGI Kong, as to use the public domain one would not attract the young people that the movie is aimed at.
Actually, for me, browser compatibility is a requirement for my financial business. If my bank requires me to use WinIE (Safari works fine), I will change banks in an instant, as banks are supposed to cater to my needs, not the other way around.
The problem is that the hobbyists can be ignorant enough that they force those that are professionals in the field to either correct the mistakes or live with them. They have much more important things to do, but are forced to correct outright lies about their life's work for a website that doesn't deserve their work (this includes having others correct it for them.)
Of course, people will say the above statement is what makes Wikipedia work. However, this is a bad interpretation. Those that have articles devoted to their work do not judge Wikipedia well when they learn that their work is disputed. This matters in the long scheme of things, because if they don't have faith in the articles, they will dismiss Wikipedia as dangerously inaccurate.
I have the worst typing posture I possibly can. Laid on comfy chairs with a laptop in my lap, on the couch, etc...
I don't use a desk ever.
However, I am constantly changing my position. Sitting up one moment, laid back another. I just changed the way my legs were crossed, which changed the position of my powerbook.
I've done it this way for 5 years now, and most likely more than most people use a keyboard (other than the slashdot crowd.) Before that I had horrible typing skills so I was too slow to count.
However, I've never had carpel tunnel, or other RSI issues, even though I am constantly pressing delete (still have pretty bad typing skills, just much faster now.)
Not really. I have five, and my collection is considered the second largest.

Only if there are six (or more) females.
But can you spell "pwned" correctly?

Correction:
They paid NeXT to take over.

How else do you think they were going to get UC to pay for their late-night partying and the beds for whomever they took home that night?
I think it's a rather ingenious study myself.

Is that like having red wine with white meat?
The resulting documentary will be sold only in adult video stores.

You know Osama's email address. You must be a terrorist. Please bend over for a Homeland Security "investigation." An agent will arrive shortly.
Actually, I'm still using cyberdog. :)
Eureka!
I needed a prime number ending in two (that is not two) for my Cold Fusion generator and Perpetual Machine.
It also will allow me to make Windows virusproof.

... to me either.

Its the same old shit that's on TV anyways.
Tylenol is all we are.
My copy of 4'33" is ruined by the damn birds and wind!
There is no second 'g' on Orangutan. It is a common misspelling.
