    Lets say it again: Build a space elevator. Same costs as Buzz cites for an L1 spaceport, but allows for a much cheaper exit from the gravity well. Best of both worlds.

    If it is similar to some of the other copy protection schemes, the audio is not encrypted. Instead it is corrupted. The correction routines on an audio cd player will bypass the corruption, but a data player will just see corupted files and skip them.

    Actually, there was some research done a year or two ago, and I think it was posted on /. (I'm too lazy to look for it) The researchers tested out on a bunch of different browsers, on different OS's and different displays. Turns out there were only about 15 colors that were uniform throughout, and most of them were green.

    The bill of rights only outlines rights provided by citizens from the government. In a civil suit, where the government is not a party, the constitution has little say.

    I too have a hosts file that is kb long. The only problem is that it does not disable pop-ups, you just get popups with page not found errors. You need a pop-up blocker as well.

    Interesting thought, and a prevalent one. However, I don't believe it is accurate. According to Feynman in his lecture on space and time, now is a relative term. Since, in Einstein's theories, nothing can travel faster than light, the now of the universe is what we can view now. Therefore the galaxy is forming now. Perhaps someone with a better grasp can clarify, but I believe that is the basic position.

    I could be wrong, but I think the native resolution of a standard television is 640x480. It is only on HDTV that you begin to get resolutions similar to computer monitors

    The things they do in their spare time are not their own business if they do it in the name of the company they work for. By identifying themeselves as employees of said company, they are no longer acting as private individuals, but as representative agents of a corporation.

    Not all liquids are a problem in an electrical environment. Only those that are conductive are worrisome. That is why people can submerge computers in vats of liquid nitrogen with no adverse problems. (Except for the whole damn cold thing)

    I am also a geek, and I enjoy various types of outdoor adventure travel (Backpacking, biking, etc.) Sometimes you have to unplug. Enjoy the beauty of your surroundings, and the excersize that you are getting. leave the laptop at home and catch up on your coding and slashdot when you get back. If you want it to store stuff like digital photos and film, stock up on extra CF cards and miniDV tapes. They are smaller than a laptop and the power you would want, and it gives you more time for your trip.

    I wonder if there is any chance that this can be attributed to the placebo effect. I would think that people not getting caffine were not told of the fact. They expected caffine effects, they got them.

    Weight may not be an issue in space, but mass still is. This fabric would also have less mass then a lead coat. Easier to start it moving (by the wearer) and, more importantly, easier to stop it moving.

    Actually, there is braille on drive up ATMs for 2 reasons
    1. They use the same parts as walk up ATMs, and a blind person can use those (cheaper to manufacture one set of buttons)
    2. A blind person can be a passenger in a car, say the back left seat. They do not have to be the driver

    Actually, calling him Napster boy is a bit of a runaround, but accurate. The name Napster came from his nickname in highschool- Nappy. So Napster boy is just a nickname of a name based on a nickname.

    Too bad I cant update the electronics I already have. I would love to jack my camera into my Archos jukebox to store pictures. That would be more useful to me than plugging it into the printer. Where there is a printer there is a computer. But for a longish trip (2 wks-1 month) using the mp3 player for picture storage would be great.
