  1. Why Johnny Cant Program? on Can Anyone Become a Programmer? · · Score: 1

Not to be rude or a bleeding heart but we still live in a country where 1% of the population cant read... and here we are arguing about if anyone can learn to program. Seems rather pointless.

  2. Defective :( on Nintendo DS Launches · · Score: 2, Interesting

Mine has a bad pixel on the top screen and they tell me it will be 3 weeks before they can exchange it... with eb's 2 week exchange policy they will probably try to screw me :(

Other than that its very large but more comfortable to play.

  4. Price structure on Microsoft Set To Debut Xbox Live Upgrade · · Score: 1

As long as I get a good service for my money Im not too worried. If they give me those services and some more titles with no monthlys I would gladly pay $10 a month. Thats what I would have to pay for most MMORPG. if they gave me Live and Galaxies for $10/Month I would be happy.

  5. Definitly NOT twitch-based on Planetside Beta Analysed As Release Approaches · · Score: 1

Planetside is definitly not a Twitch-Based game. They have a cone of fire system that makes it quite a bit different style of play than UT and QUAKE. variable like your rate of fire and speed of movement decrease your accuracy. its not a pixel perfect firing system.

  6. Re:Xbox Live, Year 2 on Xbox Live Volume 2 Released · · Score: 1

no, you can save your Live Account info to a memory card and take it with you, you are not tied to a specific Xbox. I really enjoy live, but so far the "Killer App" has not emerged. MechAssault could have been great, but they flawed the lobby and friends list. UNREAL is fun, but I usually play without the headset because there is always some 8-13 year old yelling "TALK TO ME! WHY DOESNT ANYBODY TALK TO ME" It is fun to have the headset for playing domination though if you have a strategy minded team.

  7. Whacked! on Xbox Live Volume 2 Released · · Score: 1

Just goes to further prove you cant judge a game by its demo. The full verison has a lot more features and is a great party game. Its got funny characters and some really inovative level designs

  8. Re:Batteries anyone? on Java for the Gameboy Advance · · Score: 1

  9. I hope they pay the artists well on Instant Concert CDs? · · Score: 1

As a fan of live music and as someone who has a fair knowledge of the music industry, I think it is an EXCELLENT idea.

If I knew that the artist was getting a large percentage of the proceeds, I know I would by a cd of any good concert I attended just as a way to show my appreciation as well as have a great keepsake.

  10. Re:Replay has the best technology, what's going on on Tivo 2 Features On the Horizon · · Score: 1

    I just bought a replaytv 5040 for $199 after rebate and a $10 monthly.

Its great. It updates via my network connection. It has a picture viewer. I guarantee that if Tivo adds MP3 playback then sonic blue will follow suit (most likely with a free software upgrade).

  13. Re:Dont Forget MiniDisc on New MP3 Portables · · Score: 1

Well, I still have the source :)

MD is still a much better storage method than Memory cards. Spending $30 to back up a 15 dollar CD hardly seems like a good investment.

I dont think anyone buys these devices as a permanent backup for thier music files!

  14. Re:Dont Forget MiniDisc on New MP3 Portables · · Score: 1

    That is a great price!

I still prefer MD However, they are still much smaller, MUCH more shock resistant and have a longer battery life (50+ hours on 1 AA)

Its copying them vs USB, Same as the RIO and others, Its not like I have a firewire on my PC anyways.

I dont see small fragile harddrives or expensive memory with limitted storage as stepping boldly Anywhere.

  17. Re:spindles? on Clothing Yourself In Technology · · Score: 1

Actually yes, I am Very Happy with my MD Unit.

There are many factors I used when I decided to purchase a unit to play my music collection, alot of which is currently in MP3 format.

Yes, you can build a completly solid state unit. There are many on the market. The disadvantage is Memory size. How large of a Memory card do I need to store a the same number of MP3's? What is the cost of that?

for this application, Skiing & Snowboarding, I would hate to only have one hour of music and have to listen to it over and over all day on the slopes.

The advantage of Low cost storage was a big factor in my decision to get a NetMD unit. Sure theres the IPOD and other hard drive based units, but dont those have moving parts? I'll put my MZ-505 to drop test against any of the hard drive based units on the market.

Now, if they had affordable smartmedia I would switch in a heartbeat. I would love to have my entire music collection on a media that would fit in my wallet, its just not realistic yet in my opinion ( and Price Range ).

  18. Re:What is the value add of putting them together? on Clothing Yourself In Technology · · Score: 1

Thats True, You could shave $200 by switching to the MZ-505 How much audio recording are you going to be doing on the slope anyways!

  19. Re:spindles? on Clothing Yourself In Technology · · Score: 1

Well, as a proud MD Owner,

1)A MD can hold 320 Minutes of tunes on one $2 USD disc. I can easily hold my MD unit and an extra disc in my shirt pocket. That is 10 hours of music with no repetion for a much more affordable price than most MP3 Players, Definitly a must have for a hard day on the slopes.

2)With a NETMD Player such as the MZ-N1 you can burn MP3's WMA's and Wavs to an MD digitally... So there is not an advantage there

  20. Fear the results of threats? on Debunking (some) DMCA Myths · · Score: 1

It seems to me that the fear is a result of threats. Sure, no researcher or professor has been sued YET. Someone with limitted access to legal resources is easily stopped by a letter with some nice lawyers letterhead stating intent to prosecute if said paper is published.

If your gun is big and scary and your voice is loud you dont actually have to shoot someone to scare them.

  22. Historical Darwanism on Digital Dark Ages? · · Score: 1

I understand the issue, However this is sort of a case of Historical Darwanism.

When ever a new media format comes up people naturally migrate what is important to them to the newer media. When DVD Came out my Photo CD's get converted to Photo DVD's. The documents that I felt were important got consolidated and upgraded from the old media, Just like the data on my 5 that was important got moved to 3.5 Inch which them moves to CD etc.

I understand that are books which will never get converted to a digital format and there are film and negatives that will not get converted, However I believe that digitial documents should not suffer the same fates if people think they are important enough to preserve.

  23. Is it really that hard on Talk To Xanth Creator Piers Anthony · · Score: 1

Is is really that hard to tell a story in just one book?

Your books have provided me much entertainment over the years and I cant help but observe that every new fantasy world you create seems to spawn a series rather than a single tale.

Is it simply not letting a good thing go to waste, or do you just enjoy the characters that much?

  24. Too Early to Tell.... on PS2 Vs. X-Box: Winner Emerging? · · Score: 1

    I personally own both systems.

I honestly can honestly say that I felt the same way about the PS2 last year at this time when there were few AAA titles and all I did was play psx games.

I dont believe we will really know the Xbox's success or failure until after the next holiday season. While Microsoft chose an odd time of year for their international launch, E3 will surely spark some sales, but the christmas season this year will really decide their staying power in the market.

If MS has their online service and games ready for the holidays I am sure it will make this article irrelivant.

  25. Re:Makes sense to me on PS2 Vs. X-Box: Winner Emerging? · · Score: 1

There are actually many ways to easily connect the xbox to the internet, Personally all I had to do was plug it into my hub, and download the gamespy tunnel or XBConnect.

Using these you can play any games that allow for the system link. Currently that list is HALO, Tony Hawk 2x, Tony Hawk 3 and the NASCAR title.

The only people I think will be challenged to get the Xbox online are people who use a USB modem for Broadband.
