  1. I wonder... on MPAA Says Teachers Should Camcord For Fair Use · · Score: 1

If the number of movies downloaded from the internet spikes when stories of the MPAA suggesting idiotic crap like this comes out.

    Hmmmmmmm...

  2. I'm sorry.... on Ford Claims Ownership Of Your Pictures · · Score: 1

Ford is just out of it's FUCKING mind.

  3. What ever you do... on Where to Go After a Lifetime in IT? · · Score: 1

  4. Try contract work on Getting Out of Tech Support? · · Score: 1

I had a similar situation a few years back. I had taken a 16 month course in an effort to get out of retail (hell). But at the time the tech market had kinda crashed and it was hard for someone in their, um, thirtysomethings, to get in. I applied for a contract job online and finally got out of retail. I worked about 6 or 7 contracts, amassed lots of experience, knowledge and great references to land me a permanent job. Granted I am married and had insurance through my wifes job which made it easier, it might be harder for you if you don't have that luxury. But I do not regret the experience at all, it's rough at first, but if you work hard and develop some god relationships, it will pay off in the end. One contract even has me on there short list to fill in for a person who is retiring soon, that in itself was worth it.

  5. Fear is a good tool on Securing a High School Windows XP Computer Lab? · · Score: 1

If you catch one of the little buggers screwing around with a computer, cut off one of his/her fingers (your choice) and show it to the rest of the class as an example to what happens when you download party poker for the 1000th time...

That'll keep 'em in line >:)

  6. Re:Poor social skills on IT and Divorce? · · Score: 1

I've got to say I disagree that. I spent 10 years in the Retail industry mostly is sales, and I would like to think I have pretty good people skills. Now that I am in the IT field I find that my people skills are almost as valuable as my technical skills. If you lock yourself in front of a screen all day and code or whatever, sure your people skills wills never develop. But, this could happen in just about any profession: musician, artist, athlete etc... I have many friends in the IT field and their pretty normal (well, for the most part) I think it's just if you don't make an effort to socialize, you will never become socialized.

  7. Will parents EVER be accountable??? on Suit Blames Videogames for Homicides · · Score: 1

This kills me. Every time a kid commits a violent crime, someone tries to blame it on music or video games or some other entertainment source. How about THE PARENTS? If you are going to have a child; you have to take responsibility for there actions. If you mistreat or neglect your them and he/she decides to shoot several of there classmates; you need to take responsibility for some or all of there actions. The courts need to start throwing some of these people in jail and see through the obvious smoke screens that these people are using to divert blame from themselves.

  8. Re:We want to know what the punishment is. on Congress Asks HP for Information · · Score: 1

That's a good point. Although I find it ironic that a government that has been, a pretty much admitted to, conducting the same behavior that they are accusing HP of doing.

Ain't that pot calling the kettle black, eh?

  9. DTV vs Cable on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

I work for a national CE chain and sell DirectTV, so maybe I am a little bias, but having had cable for so long I have to say DTV is better than cable. I pay $45 a month for two boxes, one with Tivo, and get as many channels (if not more) than cable. The only time I have lost my signal has been in extremely cold weather, not snow or rain. And as a new customer you can get your equipment for cheap or even free on a promotion. There is also a wider selection of HDTV programing too. Did that sound *too* much like a sales pich? ;)

  10. Burns my ass..... on Metallica Vs. Harvard · · Score: 1

The thing that really pisses me off is where were Mettalica and Dr. Dre's lawyers when I was getting poped for $18.oo a CD? Why didn't they take a stand for the FANS? The very people who made them what they are today! They have embraced corporate greed and left music lovers behind,in the end, becoming the very thing that the strived NOT be so early in their careers.

  11. "librarian" on Library Of Congress Will Not Digitize Books · · Score: 1

I have learned much on-line. I have learned much from books. I love books. But Mr. Billington needs to catch up with the present instead of trying to preserve the past. His comments are arrogant and short-sighted. Posting books on-line would make them available to many more people around the world. Which I would think is more important than promoting some glorious notion of how we should obtain our knowledge and pleasure. The problems with the Internet are problems with humanity in general. Maybe if more books were available to more people, these problems would not be as large as they are. But I guess as long as narrow-minded fossils such as Mr. Billington are in allowed to hold positions of power, we will never know.
