I've been a politico in Canada for nearly 20 years professionally. On and off Parliament Hill - mostly on. Paul Hellyer is a certifiable wacko. Full stop. Anyone who knows anything about Canadian politics knows Hellyer's record. He was first elected in 1949 - around the time Strom Thurmond first became a U.S. Senator. Hellyer is about as swift - even though Senator Thurmond is two years gone. Indeed, the colourful Senator could probably best Hellyer in a debate were they both to square off today - Thurmond in a casket and Hellyer in the flesh.
Pay this man no mind whatsoever. He's an idiot who once had a job with a title. Talent or smarts are not prerequisites in politics, after all.
It's Her Majesty. Not Her Royal Majesty. She is the Sovereign and does not need the Royal tag added because she IS Royal. Yanks have some difficulty with this, no doubt, but that's the way it is.
I hate it when people get her forms of address wrong. Kinda like calling Mr. Bush The Honorable President.
Petitions delivered by MPs to the Canadian House of Commons are routinely ignored. The government Minister whose department covers the subject matter of the petition must give a written response, but that's it. The government is under no obligation whatsoever to do anything about the petition.
There have been petitions with hundreds of thousands of real, hard-copy dead-tree signatures that received no attention by policy makers whatsoever.
Petitions make the petitioners feel good and give the MP presenting them a chance to do a little chest thumping. But that's it. I should know. I've been working for MPs for fifteen years.
Just because someone whom you dislike uses a technology you like doesn't mean you should take your marbles and go home. That might mean that the head of the local Chevy club might bail because HUMVEEs are made by GM (now).
Umm... we're supposed to believe this? Given Micro$quash's credibility problems when it comes to security issues, I don't really think it would be wise to take this "statement" at face value.
I see. It was BUSH that flew the planes into the WTC and the Pentagon. BUSH blew up embassies in Africa and the USS Cole in Yemen. BUSH tried the WTC in 1993.
I remember the days of swapping in and out Ultima diskettes on my 8088 and even before that, playing Frogger on my C-64. Better yet, writing my own games on the Vic 20 and the C-64.
I far prefer the condensed late-night version of Robot Wars hosted by - of all things - Joanie, where it's nothing but fights. No interviews, no filler, no inane chatter. Just killing and lots of it.
Barring that, give me the British version of Robot wars every time.
The only useful thing from Battle Bots were the killsaws - cool.
You, I, and most every other breathing human in North America (and elsewhere) sees this shit on CNN or our local TV station(s).
Of what possible use is this on Slashdot? Is it to become a news portal? Or a political breathing hole for geeks?
Shut up with "breaking news" already, Roblimo. E-commerce on the agenda or no. Riots we know about long before they're posted here. You're not fast enough to beat the news networks on this kind of thing and you won't be for some time. You don't have an uplink truck or a camera crew.
For those of us who live in Ottawa who are subjected to watching Mikey Hormone fly by us on the Queensway in his white Lamborghini Diablo and watching his totally plastic wife (who gets more plastic by the month) drape less and less clothing on her frame at major civic events, Mike's prognostications are a little hollow.
His track record ain't good.
I like CorelDRAW and I REALLY want it for Linux, but I ain't holding my breath.
He also promised a fully JAVA-compatible version of Wordperfect Suite 7.

Highness is for Princes and Princesses. The Queen is Her Majesty or Your Majesty.
