If they use http://followmyvote.com/, that's a BitShares DAC. It uses open source software with a blockchain, similar to bitcoin, and cryptography to publicly ensure that votes are legitimate.
Inefficiency is inherent in a representative form of government with voting. The only way our very government could possibly be more efficient is by sacrificing certain rights and liberties such as what we see in China.
We here in the U.S. choose to use an inefficient government because it allows for both sides of the issues at hand to be examined.
"Advocating increased inefficiency as the solution to bad government is like saying that you can't run very well in clown shoes so we can lower the crime rate by making everyone wear clown shoes so they can't get away from the cops"
The metaphor seems apt at the surface, but you can only do so much when you have to balance the desire of your constituency, the media (if it's free), at the same time the other politicians (who knows what interests they're trying to represent) have to vote in favor of your bill.
So no it's not, it's democracy inaction. The OP (BJ_Covert) was actually making a pretty astute political observation.
If no one gets to see your town in your profile then why care what your display is?
The guy was temp banned for a few days, so he had a few days to sit around and be upset for being unjustly banned. I don't know if Xbox Live has a certain number of offenses until you're perma-banned but that may have been a factor too.
I got this from the AP article linked about the story.
"Maybe they are thinking that if Internet users have some porn to look at, then they won't pay so much attention to political matters."
If marijuana weren't unjustly scheduled as it is today I probably wouldn't have started thinking about politics at a young age. In fact, I may not even smoke because I wouldn't have had easy access.
Based on what I know about our own invasive government, my money goes towards the sites being a trap so they can bait more "perverts" to incarcerate.
To hell with medical pot, when is it going to be legal for all adults?
In fact, California is scheduled to vote this November on all out legalization. It's a public vote, not one of those representatives vote it down because they're scared to look soft on drugs type thing, and enough Californians support the idea that it could feasibly become a reality.
If this vote succeeds, it may just change the status quo and make it ok for other states to completely legalize, the way other states have done with medical marijuana. Especially if other states become jealous of the extra tax dollars and population this will bring Cali. Enough states do that and eventually the constituency will demand that the federal government bring their outdated laws into the 20th century.
Lets see, Ben Franklin estimated taxes in the colonies at around 12.5%... Today we have a 15% income tax at the realistic minimum (unless you are like a kid at a summer job or something then its only 10%) and up to 35% if you are successful at what you do! Plus, the income tax is actually unconstitutional! (Thats why they needed to pass a constitutional amendment for it to be in effect today)
Sure the poor may pay that, but if the rich actually payed that much, and we invested it back into society as we should, nobody would be complaining about being poor.
Could it be that some people have disproportionately large amounts of money to blow on things like server, bandwidth, lawyers? The guy working for humanity's best interest is the broke guy. How could such a situation ever come to be? impossible.
Could it also be that people are more willing to support TPB through donations than they are wikileaks, for whatever reasons?
As much as I'm all for civil rights and all that, being polite does a lot more to stop police harassment than being That Guy who watched an ACLU video one time on Youtube and decided he'd give the police what-for. In some states here in the US, you actually do have to answer reasonable questions from a police officer, which has caused all sorts of grief to the annoying twits that make up all sorts of rights that don't exist.
It may be truthful enough, but the above paragraph is bullshit. People aren't twits because they don't want to talk to the cops, not wanting to talk to cops is the smartest thing you could want to do criminal or not. If the laws are lax enough that they actually allow police some kind of recourse from not being talked to then a problem exists.
The rights we have are more important than ever considering how many liberties don't technically exist, but should. Why are you a police apologist?
Our cities need more venues for socialization other than praise jesus, how about them brownies/cavs/indians, and "how many people can we cram into a small space! WOOH!" don't they?
I for one would love for there to be something like a bar, except for potheads.
So what you're saying is that women prefer to date either men who lie to themselves about their own emotions, or men who aren't really sincerely interested in them?
That doesn't make any sense, but I know from casual observation that you're extremely right. It's disgusting, but truth.
I always figured freely available software came from either a) teenagers, b) people who are already privileged, or c) people who've written software that clones an idea someone else has already profited from.
Because if you came up with that unique of an idea, and your choice is between financial security and altruism to the rest of mankind I don't care who you are your own ass, and those of your wife and children if you're that lucky, are going to rank above humanity's progress.
I had my Verizon service turned off completely earlier this year.
I do not miss having a cell phone, and now my decision feels super justified because I would have been interested in a data plan if I were going to continue having a cellular connection, but now that would be laughable decision.
I'm actually proud of myself for predicting the impending price gauging.
Your life has afforded you the intelligence and resources to get a college education, and a job that pays more than ten grand a year.
What I'm about to say is harder in practice than in theory, but it's the truth.
Don't take your situation for granted. You have to step outside your self and look at the situation objectively. Your life kicks ass, sir.
It's not going to hurt to print out a few resumes and float them around, since you're obviously being taken advantage of, but from where I'm sitting, I want taken advantage of... badly.
"I'm sure they'll find the drug abuse resistance gene in no time."
Why would they want to find that?
To genetically alter babies to not have drug addictions? So those who have it could know?
I would be deeply amused if this had the opposite intended effect, and caused people who know they have the drug abuse resistance gene to feel empowered in their ability to try drugs and make it out unscathed.
If this gene were discovered and put to use it would lessen the argument for drugs being illegal, as patients who aren't as susceptible to addiction would be better able to handle them for recreation. We couldn't have that could we?
Actually, Verizon covers EVERYWHERE except a small blip in central Ohio that happens to be between two massive hills.
So yea, I know of at least one area that gets great cell service but is still country as all hell.

Would this step pretty much just constitute running a spy-ware scan and perusing the install/uninstall dialog for uselessness and getting rid of it?
I would kind of feel like a bastard for charging people for that service. Nevertheless I'll consider it for a few days.
I would definitely need to explain to people that experts could do a much more comprehensive job of removing crap than I can, but that the computer should maybe operate a little better...

A solid suggestion, NDPTAL.
I would totally do this but I don't think I have the skill.
I'm non-noobish enough to keep my computer clean for the most part, but most people's malware driven boxes I'd probably just end up formatting and reinstalling everyone's operating system and they'd be all like "I have a pile of useless crap I want to back up and no DVD burner or anything, you can't reformat."
I do appreciate how randomly out of the box the idea is though.
What does some rich CEO making way more money than he deserves at the cost of there being decent jobs available to average citizens have anything to do with the advancement of technology (basically the reason for your comparison between our lower class and their kings)?
If anything I think it would stunt it, seeing as how someone with an interest in science can't spend time on it if he's too busy working four minimum wage jobs...
Extra efficiency means greater wealth, yes, but not for humanity as a whole, at least until Star Trek's replication technology gets invented.
Is it that it protects the rights of citizens and requires a warrant for you to be searched according to it?
Yes because any jerk-off cop can search me on the spot if he thinks he smells pot.
Or is it that you don't like freedom of speech?
Except for there are loitering laws, laws aimed at preventing gangs, and just about half a dozen other ways to bypass our right to peaceful assemblage...
Not to mention that...
Or is it that you don't believe we should have the right to legally bear arms to defend ourselves against criminals or, should it become a form of tyranny, the government?
That the last part of that statement is practically treason, and the first part doesn't include felons (some of which can be non-violent in nature), and that now sectors both public and private institute policies that prevent carrying weapons onto their property, effectively meaning that in most places of importance only the criminally minded would have a gun.
Or is it that you don't believe in the right to a trial by jury?
I can't argue with this one... it's actually a pretty good system if you can afford a lawyer.
How does the constitution not need modernized, badly?
I would expect it to, asking people not to come back if they don't finish their meal; although someone pointed out that for some reason that's not the case?
And yes, I guess I do want it to fail too, because I don't want the restaurants I do eat at to copycat this if it catches on.

You mentioned call-centers, and I've tried to get into those, but rare opportunities they are indeed.
For a while I tried getting my foot in the door to one of those oil-change places with no go.
I've also tried government work, and UPS. They want experience it seems. Mine is in food-service.
Oh and best buy is an option (until I get back into college at least), haven't pestered them in a while...
It's not like I have a terrible work record with a history of non-reliability and crap for references. In fact my work record shows promotions and raises in some of the jobs I've had. I pride myself on being an excellent food-service grunt.
Also, I learned the hard way (by getting promoted) that management is not my cup of tea, so there goes like half of the "work-your-way-up" options.
I'm so open to suggestions... and I will seriously check this post and follow up on them. The restaurant I work for is run by difficult people, and has an extremely high turnover rate. I want out with all my soul.
this needs to be upvoted.
