Now tell them you are going to kill one, point and shoot.
Can they dodge the bullet? probably not
WIll they get out of the way before the shot is fired? They will damned well try.
Of course the phasers in star treck have speeds very below c or the ships are very far apart (it takes 1/4 a second to for the shot to go from ship one to ship two), but still, if you see someone in the same room as you point a weapon, you can jump, and they may just miss you, happens to me in quake all the time:)
The problem with the no proffits business model is that it ignores the fact that large companies require lots of capitol. The people that put up the capitol want to make money without working (divideneds). This money comes from proffit (of course technically you could call it an expense). Also the company needs a rainy day fund (or is that an expense too?). The point is that ma and pa shops don't need proffit, only saleries for the people working there, but large businesses need to proffit to pay the people who invest but do not work. Why put money into something for no reason? to let the prices be lower?
Maybe the perfect bizaare economy has no proffit, but multi binnion dollor corp will need it to exist, and dispite the benifits of the bizaare economy, I would imagine that small vendor X is going to have a lot of trouble making a washing machine, or a microprossesor at a price I can afford.
But if plugins are used in other apps then the idea of a plugin in a web browser is painfully obvious, even if not used yet. Obvious stuff should not be patented.
I use apera with no plugins so i don't really care, but this is a total bullshit patant. Maybe I should patent plugins for the next type of app to come out, will that be valid? I surely hope not.
I am probably being seriously trolled, but the guy was shown to be a total fraud.
Wired had an article about it around the beginning of the year.
All the sceptics were correct, and eventually the believers let the idea slip out of the collective conciousness, not wanting to have to admit they were totally duped.
These are real criminals. They are escalating their service by about 30 or 40 dollors a month.
That means that after a year they stole around 400 dollors.
Those FBI agents are doing their job real well.
I hope they get their purse snatching devision up and running soon though, because we don't want local law enforcement to be too busy.
PS: Why the hell is the FBI going after petty criminals? I guess $500.00 is where it becomes a felony theft, but still, why is it the FBIU and not local cops doing this work? The local cops do some serious drug busts, but not petty theft of service? PPS: steel bandwidth on my cable block and I hope you swollow a bug and pay a fine. But no FBI raid.
umm, the guy that did Toy Story was on NPR and said that they picked Toys because the CG looked plastic. Then went on to do Monster's inc. and said it was because real life people/animals would look awkward (eww Final Fantasy).
So the setting is matched to the capabilities, though there is most likly some script sriving the FX also.
Knoppix is debian based, it should hold up. If you install knoppix to HD, then follow the instructions you get also on knoppix. It is not offtopic, so I hope the meta moderators read the context.
It doesn't cut it for $60,000, but it is worth soemthing. And if you sue someone you start at the highest and work down. For example, in a car accident if you are sharking you start with pain and suffering for $250,000. Then end up withmax insurance coverage, (hopefully still around $80,000).
She will start with max contract length, but will probably wants a month or two pay to cover finding a new job. Obviously if they paid the whole year it would be absolutly unfair. She does not get to sit on her ass for a year because they screwed up, but possibly she gets money to cover her bills while looking for a new job.
I assume the therory is that if American movies are easy to pirate they will be far more available. If you can buy American blockbuster x for 1 unit of currency. And Chinese fledgeling art movie for 2 or 3 units of currency, since the people seling it nead to recapture the cost of filming (film is not cheap) the American movies will have an advantage. Selling at a loss to crush competition is a prectice that was widly used to allow one company an advantage over another, by only enforcing Chinese copyright they are damaging their distribution penatration relative to US films.
When the playing ground is fair the US films dominate in the US, and are starting to in Europe (warning: that is personal observation from two trips to Vienna). Eventually they will need to offer the same protections to American movies, but that costs the government more money, and offers no immediate benifit. While protecting the Chinese films helps the locals make more money, which directly benifits the economy.
P.S. To those who say artists are not business men, I agree. But they are human. With no business side art cannot be more then a hobby. And film would be a hobby for the rich. Even a very very cheap film is 10000 of dollors (think El Mariachi). How you expect the artists to be able to spend that much money for everyone else to make mony selling ten dollor DVD's on ebay, and 2 dollor ones in China is beyond me. But maybe I live in some fantasy world where film is expensive, and artists need to eat, and you guys are grounded in reality.
"I really doubt the Kurds in Iraq wanted to vote for the guy who used chemical weapons on them. "
The kurds actually did not count. So the argument falls flat. Of course 100% turnout with 100% yes votes (last time only 99.96% voted yes)is an obvious fabrication.
Really Sudam is throwing a big FU to us Americans by saying, I will rig the Godamn election if I please. And I will do it unabashedly.
The problem is that what you end up doing is limiting my political speech. If I rent a television ad for 1 minute, I should be able to say what I want without the government interfering (of course if it is broadcast TV the FCC already can interfere, but not on cable). I agree that there are huge problems with the way things are, but there is no easy solution without changing the constitution to limit free speech. And I really doubt that anything that limits only political speech will ever make it in, just saying it is scary, weather it is a good clause or not.
What you end up doing if you limit political speech of any kind is place a fulcrum for a group of even more currupt polititions to leverage bad laws into place.
What we really need in USA is a new electoral system that lets minor parties get some power, if we had a spread in power with some weaker parties it would keep anybody from becoming too powerful, and that would prevent the speech limiting from becoming abused.
Well, it has already been deamed as speech by the supreme court if I am not mistaken, so that's part of it.
But also buying a billboard and putting something on it is personal expression. Making a pamphlet is self exrpression. They could try to get political speech deamed obscene, but that just doesn't sit right. They could make an amendment that limits your rights to political speech, but somehow I don't lik that either.
I agree that the money is destroying polotics, but you cannot prevent a rich person from helping a canidate without creating a law/amendment that would have scary implications in limiting types of political sppech.
Does it really make a difference if they can donate or not?
I mean if Bill Gates got a 2 million dollor bonous (or not, he has plenty o dough) and then donated 2 million dollors to campaign x, does anybody doubt where it came from?
I don't think you can prevent this from happening without capping spending to a certain amount, and you can't do that without taking away free speech. It's a bitch, but that is all there is too it.
I used to always think that kindof thing. That all it would take was insane amounts of balls to go on a rampage and kill lots of people.
I would like to point out though, that for the unexpierienced GTA3 player your life span after going on such a rampage is about 4 minutes. Probably shorter then it would be in real life, but fairly realistic.
In real life you cannot keep going on rampages until you are super killer man, and therefore it is not a good idea.
What is a blind person going to get from macromedia (The majorest plugin?) or even java? And what is wrong with an old console based wordprossessor (Like an old DOS one). I doubt that a blind person would benifit too much from higher level formatting. If I turn off images in a web browser and read the text, it is no different to me then using links and reading the text.
I will agree with the comment someone made about the braile console output, I would imagine it is much quicker then listining to a voice.
So really it comes down to your last point, which is the kicker. If a blind person is going to interoperate with word 2006 they probably better be able to use abiword, or star office, or office. And not starwrite.
Really what blind people need (in my probably totally wrong opinion, I am not blind, nor do I know anyone who is) is a good remake of a console word prossessor, with some type of MS word importing and exporting functionality. A web browser that can play sound files but is console based and other console based apps with key binding for menues.
All these apps could be in there own virtual terminal and would really be indistinguishable from a window environment if you couldn't see where they were. If the project was done well, people of less means could also use it to get modern compatibility in their wordprossessing.
Also, console does not automatically mean CLI. dpkg-configure has a very nice diolog box interface, as did the old word prossessors.
I have a test.
Get a bunch of people tpgether and a loaded gun.
Now tell them you are going to kill one, point and shoot.
Can they dodge the bullet? probably not
WIll they get out of the way before the shot is fired? They will damned well try.

dood, use opera.
CTRL+mouse up
So much more graceful then playing with resolution.
Ummmm, Buffolo where?, Syracuse where?
Ohh, if it's a commonly known city you don't need the state perhaps?
So New York would be the city. Buffolo would be the city. And if you mean the entire state you could clarify with New York state.
Kind of like how I have to clarify Delaware is a state:)
your entire post is a strong argument for calling NYC New York.

Sounds like they want to play DoomIII (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/11/03/15202 40&mode=nested&tid=127) alpha witha good frame rate.
These are real criminals. They are escalating their service by about 30 or 40 dollors a month.

well, it isn't missing Gecko. It has the lizard on it I'm pretty sure.
How the hell is that off topic?

Umm, MS upgrade of office, $170.00 (I think)
new student copy $20.00
I really don't think not being able to upgrade is that bad.
For example Internet explorer uses a filesystem interface to ftp. COuldn't get easier then that.

I hope this means invisible mode in AIM, that would be k-cool (eww, so 1992)

why sorry lynx users is my question.
I use opera most of the time with images off if I am on dial-up. Surely at least 3 percent of the population turns of images for non porna browsing.
It is a very convienient way to avoid adds and decrease load times.

wow, I do the same thing with my gnome desktop, I spend so much time marvelling as my icons scale perfectly.

Wouldn't a terrorist video game be essentialy no different then a covert ops video game. Go there and destroy target X?
I bet you could even reskin some swat type game and make it a terroist game.
