I was quite sickened by the whole "highest alert" crap. They took every opportunity to repeat it over and over again, as if it meant anything to anyone. Shame on the BBC for buying into it.
The BBC said they are going to look at other platforms later
The problem is that as far as the BBC is concerned 'other platforms' == 'Mac'. They've only ever referred to the Mac when talking about non-Microsoft platforms, something I believe they are doing deliberately.
I just upgraded to Fedora 7 and hit this problem.. copying files using rsync from the old computer made the computer unusable until it finished. Glad to see it's not just me. Thanks for the post!
I second that. We had a KVM of Belkin in the office... it acheaved a level of suckiness I've rarly seen in the computer world. Most days it would just stop working, or the keyboard would stop working and a few times got into an endless loop switching between computers. How hard can it be to make a KVM? In the end it was easier setting up two keyboards, mice and screens:-/
When I bought one for home I went out of my way to get a non-Belkin model, ended up with some no-name brand and it works flawlessly. Cheaper too.
Akamai don't produce content. Most of the rest of those I've never heard of. Netflix and Pinnacle Systems, the two that I do know, don't exactly strike me as leading media companies.
Why Amiga OS 4 of course! There's no Mono port for it.
It even has the added advantage of not running on any hardware currently avaliable! Lets see them try porting VB to that! Hah!
Could you explain this a bit more? I've been working on a simple video codec for a few weeks and I'm using Ogg as the wrapper. The only problem so far is application support (which is understandable for a codec which doesn't really exist yet).
(This is the first time I've done any work of this type -- I've not worked with the alternatives)
Threat levels are meaningless and I wish the media wouldn't go on about them. They only serve to panic or worry people. They have no actual use or value to anyone except maybe someone with an interest in a panicked or worried population.
Is there a complete list of ISP's who are asking for this? I want to avoid giving any money to the net-mafia.
Strap a rocket to the back, duh!
You can keep your Sorny, my Pretendo Wii is much more fun!
(Pretendo Wii ... euuuu)

From the universities page: (which I downloaded into my browser...)
And further down, on the same page! (Which my browser downloaded, remember)...
Wow, that is harsh! I guess that's me banned then :-)

They should really be using Ogg Vorbis, because it's VBR nature means it encodes silence just that much better than MP3 or AAC ;-)

Correction: Ceres is now the smallest dwarf planet.
Never get an Apple Mac!
Just just black LEDs.
So if one of these stars where big enough, we could have a Dark Black Hole?
Eep!
The trouble with overhauls is that they tend to be driven by the people who benefit most from the systems failings.

Bad examples.
The web community had yet to suggest any sort of Silverlight platform support.
I'm shocked by the number of people on here calling for more guns in schools. That's horrible!
If you feel it necessary to carry a lethal weapon in order to feel safe, something is very very wrong.
Especially today.

Remove the battery.
Or better yet, don't have one!
It's where they grow the lightning.
