    Did you know that to produce a reasonable quality printed page, you need an image with at least 300dpi resolution?

    Once LCD monitors reach these resolutions, reading off a monitor will be as easy and relaxed for the eyes as reading from a piece of paper

    In principle I agree with you, but playing Devil's Advocate let me ask:

    Now we have to install 2 complete desktops just to run most Linux GUI applications.

    How much disk space will we need if we have to install 3 or 4 desktops just to run a couple of apps?

    What I mean is that Apple is not going to be the "convenience tool" that it means to be if it keeps pricing its products as luxury items.

    I dont have enough money to buy a "pretty" computer. I want an utilitarian "every penny's worth" computer, Thats why I have bought AMD hardware ever since the 686 came out (and Cyrix before that).

    And dont give me that "Apple computers dont crash" bullshit, because I work with graphic designers who swear at their macs as ofter as by them.

    For chrissakes!
    I can put together TWO systems with Athlon 1600s with 256ram and 40GB harddrives with decent 17' monitors for 2000USD

    You want me to pay that much for a single machine with comparable performance?

    And dont get me started on hardware quality, you know as well as we do that all computer components are made in the very same factories in the far east.

    With copyright and patents on the other hand, the patent holders are lobbying everyone they can to extend their monopolies as much as they can, effectively hindering progress.

    Sure, they have learned to live with terrorist attacks.

    They know its only the natural side effect of a plan where they have to slowly anihilate an entire people with blockades and settlements, slowly robbing them of even more land and resources.

    To make a cake you have to break some eggs, dont you? So if you dont mind getting 3-9 dead civilians every couple of weeks or so, you can use them as a justification to decimate entire towns "looking for terrorists"

    This is the only way they can get a "final solution" to the palestinian problem without getting too many unconfortable accusations of genocide.

    So the answer is yes, they are hardcore... and the only thing they are causing is more death and destruction of innocent lives, galvinizing both populations and making them even more hardcore...

    You get RSI for forcing your fingers and hands to do unnatural gestures repeatedly for a long time.

    This looks like it keeps the hand and fingers in its natural position, so IMHO, it should be helpful to avoid RSI and carpal tunnel syndrome.

    The difference is most of these companies are run by people with a conscience. They have decided to conduct their business ethically, treat their customers well, and not use business deals as stepping stones to vast wealth and power. (The rest are run by incompetent people who, though greedy and unethical, are too stupid or lazy to actually follow Bill's lead. ;^P )

    Which is why the UK is considered a Rich, First World country, thank you very much for your comment.

    Let me remind you that we are talking about countries like India, Brasil, China or Mexico, which may have people with good technical skills, but where the divide between rich and poor is abysmal and there's not much of a middleclass as you understand it.

    Let me illustrate, here in Mexico a Software Engineer fresh out of a public university can only get a job that pays 600-1000 USD a month, depending on luck and connections.
    That's why people like Miguel de Icaza leave for the US and become parte of the brain-drain.
    That's why people in India or Brasil do the same, whenever they can.

    However the term "Middle class" is subjective.

    In the US, someone who considers himself "middle class" owns his home, can afford DSL or cable and has a reasonable expectation to send his children to college.

    In India or Mexico, someone who can afford that is definetely considered in the upper-middle-class region.

    Firewire will stay on it's professional photo-video niche because of the extra expenses of fiber optics...

    USB uses copper, so devices built for USB 2.0 will eventually be substantially less expensive than the ones built for Firewire.
