  1. I've been looking into this. on QR Codes For Memorials · · Score: 0

My mom recently passed away and I had seen a news clip somewhere about this.
I wanted (and still want to) do this for her, for my dad when his time comes and for some of my other relatives that have long since passed away but are all but forgotten now except by the few remaining survivors. I would love to do something to honor and respect their memories and their pasts.

So I looked at the website that offers the QR service for memorials, lifemarker.com

This was the biggest question I had and I found the answer I expected.

Q: How long will the LifeMarkerTM web archive be maintained?
A: Web archive page(s) that comply with the terms and conditions of LifeMarkerTM, LLC will be maintained for as long as the company is in business.

Well we all know how long companies stay in business. Not very long.
So what I'm doing now is trying to find a way to put something online that will stay online for 100 years (or as long as the internet is alive).

Another thing about the company, the sample they exhibit didn't really impress me. So it's time to roll my own.

I'm thinking buy a domain and hosting and put up any content you want. Make sure that archive.org crawls it. Then generate a QR code for the archive.org copy of your content. You can generate your own QR code easily. Then find someone that can do ceramics and have it put onto a ceramic tile. Lots of people do ceramics as a hobby. Find a way to attach it to the headstone that will never turn loose. There must be a ~permanent~ adhesive.

I'm sure this isn't the best way to do it but it's just something I pulled out of thin air. I need to do a lot more research on it but I honestly have little faith in that lifemarker company being around for long, much less any other company.

I'm not going to share my limited and expensive bandwidth with ads that are 99% of the time irrelevant to me. I don't want ANYONE monitoring what I do with my smartphone or tracking my physical location or what I'm browsing online, it's no one's business. The number one reason I insist on jailbreaking is to regain control of my privacy and control over my limited and precious bandwidth. It's MY PHONE, I bought it, I paid for it, it's my property, it's PRIVATE and personal and I do not give anyone permission to stick their noses into anything I do. My BFF dropped it and broke the screen so I bought another just like it on ebay.
I also jailbroke and unlocked that one and installed *anything* I wanted on it.

About 6 months ago I bought a one month old 3gs on ebay and retired the previous iPhone to use as a remote control for my home theater.
The new one, I jailbroke and unlocked it as well, just like the others before it.

For now, I am sitting with 3.1.3 on it, I'm doing my homework before I bump it up to 4.2.x. 3.1.3 is working fine for me and I'm in no big rush, I have other things to do that are much more important.

I love my iPhone. It's easy to use and easy to hack. I can put anything I want on it, do anything I want with it, use it in any way I wish.

USPS gets things to me in much better shape but their tracking system SUCKS. You can NOT track the progress of a package, they do not update until it's on your porch.

    Sweeeeeet! Thank you!

My iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked.

When I got my first one, I was a loooong time Centennial Wireless customer and was very happy with their service. Very happy.
My son bought a new iPhone and gave me his 1st gen which I promptly popped my OLD Centennial SIM into (I had an old Nokia) then unlocked and jail broke it to work on Centennial. It worked like a charm though I had no wireless internet, never had it on the Nokia, never wanted it on the Nokia, it was too basic.
So I had internet in my house, McDonalds, etc.. Good enough for me.

My BFF dropped it and broke it though and I bought another one just like it and repeated it all over again. Everything still cool.

Then I got tired of the slowness of the 1st gen and bought a used 3GS in like new condition on ebay. Again, I jailbroke it and unlocked it with Spirit.
Still using the old Centennial / Nokia SIM. And still, no internet except via WIFI. Fine with me.

See, I have an awesome plan that they grandfathered me in on when AT&T (SUCKS) bought Centennial. For $29 a month I get 200 minutes a month outgoing and unlimited 24/7 incoming minutes. People can call and talk to me 24 hours a day and it doesn't cost me a cent. Why would I want to change that?

If I fess up to them that I have an iPhone they will force me into a new $100 a month plan that I do not want, can not afford and have no use for.
I do not need internet when I'm driving. If I need internet when I'm away from home I'll pull into a McDonalds and use their WIFI and have a burger and a diet coke in exchange. But pay $40 a month for a limited voice plan and another $40 a month for a VERY LIMITED internet plan, NO WAY.

    They can KMA.

I love that my phone is jailbroken so that I can customize it in anyway I want. I'm not giving up my Tinkerbell theme for anyone, they can go to hell.
I'm still using 3.1.3 because I do not at all trust the new iOS4. I have heard they have a kill switch built into it to brick JB/UL'd phones.

I'm on Cydia however and I can not find the "SBSettingsAdBlockToggle" app.. :(

When I'm not around my WIFI or a WIFI that I have permission to use, I have no internet, I have cell phone service only, BY MY CHOICE.

But the ads, I'm sick of it. Why doesn't someone take iOS and GUT the ad injection capability from it?

If nothing else, how about Mozilla for iPhone with Adblock Plus ?? I could dig that.
