which is as it should be; the brakes should be strong enough to stop the car under full power, assuming they're in good repair
Actually, I was driving a 1 mo old Nissan Pathfinder. As I got into the car I knocked the industrial floormat out and when I put it in I accidentally set it on the throttle. I was fine for a few minutes because I didn't depress the throttle very far, although I thought the car was acting funny. Finally, after I hit 35, the car wouldnt' stop because the throttle was depressed. I stood on the brakebut the car just went CHUG-CHUG-CHUG and kind of stuttered instead of stopping.
It stuttered right through a red light and into the side of a maroon Volvo. My parents (I was still in high school at the time) didn't believe that the brakes couldnt' stop the car until I made my dad go out on an empty road and try it.
Energy is the capacity for doing work, for example your mass * the force of gravity * the height you're at would give you the amount of energy you have to put into doing work.
Probably yet another case of the gov't being persuaded by some businesses that the papers should be open and the journals don't have enough money for lobbiests of their own. I guarantee the government isn't just doing this out of the kindness of their heart.
Have you considered other options besideds a CS degree? Some universities are now offering majors in IT. RIT (where I go currently) was the first but I know that Penn State does too. Penn State's program is modeled almost completely off of ours and it's a lot cheaper. I know that IT isn't completely System Admin but it's pretty close. You take a lot of classes like "Shell Scripting". I'm a CS major so I can't tell you everything about it, but there's a lot of people here who really like the program.
And there goes the whole point of carpooling. It would probably end up using just as much gas (if not more) if everyone drove. They chip in for gas anyways.
PS. There's no way I could fit my goalie equipment into a TT. I know because we have one.
I'm probably in the minority, but try driving around 3 friends and their ice hockey equipment for 6 months of the year and you'll quickly see the need for an SUV.
Pickup truck? No way. You can't leave your stuff in it cause it'll get stolen, and it will probably get snowed on anyways. Station wagon? Not enough height in the cargo area to fit everything. An SUV is about my only option.
Here in the road runner Class A of 65.x.x.x I've gotten 14 hits on default.ida in the past 20 minutes, so obviously it's spread to Time Warner too, not just @home and speakeasy.
IANAL, but see Gideo v. Wainwright and other such cases involving Incorporation. Basically, the Supreme Court has upheld that the Bill of Rights, yes, all of it, applies to the States as well as the Federal Government. So if the schools are state run, then yes, this applies to them.
On second thought, I should say this would apply to them. I believe the phrase is "unreasonable search and seizure," and checking up on your child's performance in school is certainly not unreasonable.
Well, I doubt it would cause that much trouble. Although it would violate FCC regs, it's not going to blow up your neighbor's dog:-D. I run my PC with out either side panel on, because I'm too lazy to take them on and off, and I have no problems with monitors, tvs, phones, and other things that sit right next to my case.
Actually, McDonald's tried to get him to change his name, at which point he pointed out that his restaurant had existed before McDonald's establisehd their first restaurant in Scotland (He was Scottish). He then threatened to force McDonald's to change the name of all of their restaurants in Scotland. Funny enough, McDonald's left him alone after that.
I'm sure the editors of Slashdot have never heard of this site, but there's a site called Everything2. The GPLed encyclopedia sounds an AWFUL lot like E2 while reading the description of what will go in to the encyclopedia. People submit articles about thier area of expertise. Sub-encyclopedias (meta-nodes), etc. make this sound like a souped of version of E2. I'm glad Nate already thought of this. Way to go, RMS
IIRC, the ONLY difference (besides clock speed) between a G3 and a G4 is the AltiVec unit. So, if you remove that, then there is no point, as you said.
A common internet language would be great. The thing that keeps a common language from existing on Earth is the fact that so much area seperates people. If everyone is on the internet, everyone will always be talking to people from other parts of the world, and the language will develop globally. Everyone will be included and therefore there won't be all the branches that developed from the first few languages. Now, getting people to learn it and use it consistently would be a problem, but if someone developed it, and publicized it enough, and maybe even had it taught in school, then it could become great.
Linux Appliances vs. Windows Appliances

Linux Appliances
·
· Score: 2
Even with new Linux appliances, there is still going to be competition with Windows-based appliances. Take, for instance, the aforementioned Indrema box. Sure, this will be a great gaming box, but now it has to compete with the X-Box.
Linux on the PC platform will probably come along even more quickly than these new appliances, because it is much easier for someone to install Linux on their home PC, get support from all over the internet, and have a fully functioning Linux box than it is to develop the idea, hardware, and software for a Linux appliance. Plus, who knows what Microsoft is going to squeeze Windows onto. Without the help of something special, Linux is still going to take a backseat to Microsoft.

Retake physics 101.

I can't imagine fiber being too much worse
Until you get a piece of glass in your heart and die.
SimAnt is the best Sim* game of them all! Obviously you've never played it...
