I thought most people didn't like the command line, which is why Windows is so popular.

No, people don't like the CLI as their primary UI. The same goes for Quake. I love the CLI for certain things (especially scripting, in both scenarios), but that doesn't mean I don't want to code in an IDE, or play games where I have to type /menu to get to the main menu :-).

    So what's wrong with this?

America's laws not protecting the employers. It's time for a wakeup call. Companies biggest assests are their human resources. Protecting those human resources IS in the best interest of corporate america (and Americans in general). Protecting a corporation is generally short sighted, as it's usually at the cost of the people who make that corporation run.

  19. Re:The law in Canada... on FiveFingerDiscount.com? · · Score: 2

That's because the Canadians have a more human centered vs. corporate centered approach. I was laid off without a pay (one months wages), and the company was STILL IN OPERATION for at least 3 months before filing bankruptcy. The government (Department of Labor, BBB, etc.) couldn't do ANYTHING to get me (or 20-30 other people) their money. We hired PRIVATE attorneys, and THEY couldn't do it either. I know that there was cash, because I saw the transactions from their e-commerce system. I didn't steal anything, because that's wrong, but in a way I understand because America pretty much give you the proverbial smack down unless you are a corporation. To me, this is a violation of human rights. Apparently, our country isn't educated enough to figure this out (not to mention the whole public health care issue). Americans, don't tell me to "move to Canada", I'm here to fight for this country and make it better. Let's learn from our northern neighbors.

They both come down to the expectation that the societal understanding of good and evil will change over time.

I pretty much agree with this. However I still think there is a fundamental difference between our viewpoints. First, relativism states, "If it's good for you, go ahead". I do not agree with this. I believe in absolute truth, but I have to be VERY SURE about something before I'm absolutly sure it's evil (whereas "absolutists" seem to know it all). For example, I believe that the slavary conducted by America against the Blacks was wrong (absoluty), and wasn't right at the time, and wasn't right even though the "majority" or "society" believed it was right. So, the issue now, is we need some basis for exploring and finding these truths. I believe this comes from the Bible. The danger in this comes when people believe that they have "absolutly" translated the "absolute truth" from the Bible. For example, slavery was justified by using a lot of scripture. I can tell you that this is all gross misinterpretaion. So, even if we accept the Bible as our foundation for all moral truth (and I do), we still have the issue of interpretation, which is why I can't be an absolutist, per se. Based on my theology, the only legitimate absolutist is God.

Doesn't matter. As a previous poster mentioned, the problem is not in IIS, it's the ISAPI.dll filter (which handles all dynamic and index queries). This would be relatively easy to rewrite if it doesn't have to be compatible with ASP (boo hoo). As long as it's a ".NET" only filter, people can then disable ISAPI.DLL and run NETAPI.DLL - I'd be happy, for one.
