    Of course, had they used a real filesystem, such as ext2, or ffs, or xfs, or reiserfs, or jfs, or hell, even minixfs, they could have multiple links to the files, so they could have their nice hashed files for player ease, and still allow easy recovery of files. Hell, apple even supports ffs already. Why couldn't they have just used that?

    You may reply with claptrap about us being involved in an interconnected tangle, I'll just reply by stating that this incident is a bit of muratic acid in the gene pool. Keeps things from getting ugly and smelly; the herd is stronger in the long run when less capable members are culled from time to time.

    Slashdot is an American website. Therefore, the correct spelling is Aluminum. Take that i and stick it with your redundant 'u's. Traditional english is helping contribute to the heat loss of the universe by requiring many unneeded characters to be sent out. So, for the children, please switch to a (slightly) more logical spelling.

    You did know that there are several tab extensions that let you do the behavior you described, correct? Firefox's tabs are extensible so that you can get the behavior you want. Not Z-locked in any way.

    Yes, but you're not taking into account that across the board, computer prices have continued to depreciate. I can go into fry's right now and get a barebone PC that is better speced in every aspect than the xbox for $200. I'm sure that similar manufacturing improvements have made it so that the xbox is much closer to breaking even, if not making a modest profit by now.

    But then you have situations like the airline industry where the players becaome dependent on government entities to survive and in fact, seem to design their business plans into getting government handouts. Besides, the barrier to entrer in the voip market are small enough that the big players will always have to keep their prices fairly low, lest a startup with lower overhead comes in and ruins their day.

    I've got 100Mb ethernet, which is very nice for transferring files. I'm not going to give up that speed for transferring 2GB media files.

    Unfortunately, corporate schools like this probably won't be affected all that much. Parents will search for the school name, see the awards, and move on. Best thing to do here, would be to googlebomb the names of all the schools they own; otherwise, their bastardry will be of limited knowledge.

    From a brief skimming of the file, and my (admittedly basic) knowledge of C, it appears that the representation is in hex, so after 0x1039, you have 0x103A. Thus, you can have up to 10.3.15 without any problem.

    It's against icann rules to give invalid domain information when registering. Doing so, theey can take away your domain name. If you're so worried about privacy, then just get a bloody po box. They're only $8/month, and help far beyond domain registration.

    Maybe MS-style trusted computing is going to do nothing for security, but again, this is linux-style trusted computing. This lets you do things like put in a rule in a configuration file that states something along the lines of "apache has no purpose running ssh, so if it tries, deny it, and also send an email to the security alert address". This way, if apache does try to run ssh, you get a nice email letting you know that all's not well and that there's a vulnerability somewhere along the line.

    Why would I want to move to some frozen wasteland for gay marriage? I'd rather fight here right now for one right, than to subsume many more rights, such as the right to keep and bear arms, a press that isn't dominated by some government-owned entity, and a more vibrant, diverse culture. I live in California; gay marriage here has a pretty good chance of being real very soon now, and if not, I could always go to Massachusetts.

    They make damn good rain gear that lets you bike while staying dry. Alternatively, you can always stash a change of clothes in a backpack. A spare change of clothes is always useful regardless of how you get to work.
