It's better to just pretend that Tiobes numbers are meaningful.
I always forget, that as technicians we have to keep that attitude of perfection toward users and lower ranks.
My fault, I never get Wittgensteins sentence out of my head:
"Of what one can't speak, one must pass over in silence."
As far as I know, Thalidomide is or at least was recently still in use in Southamerica. Mainly against leprosy. In Great Britain it's used in cancer treatment sometimes.
Especially in Brazil, with a higher rate of analphabetism they have a hard time to prevent people from taking it when pregnant.

I think any useful statistics on a programming language would have to include something on the amount of code written in it and project complexity.
It's nice to have lots of small applets, but a single wordprocessor would count for a lot of them
Google search results only tells me, that a lot of kids try to write their first "hello world"
I can't say for sure, but this may as well be about Apple controlling the market for applications on their devices.
This would be more on the line of Microsofts trouble about bundling IE with Windows and using a monopolist position to prevent small companies from competition.
Just checked that out, I have no problems to access Wikileaks here in Germany.

You can publish nearly everything, but in some cases you will have to accept that shops can only sell it to adults.
So most game companies decide to remove some of the more violent scenes for easier publishing and a larger amount of potential customers.
So I wouldn't call it exactly "censorship". (But this may be a matter of definition)
That's something that could be questioned. But of course not, if your organization includes "churches".
Sex (as long as all participants are of full age and voluntary) is only immoral in the eyes of religious fanatics.
Porn equals pictures and movies of sex, So you can apply the rule here too. It's not a matter of "moral" but of a certain belief system.
If you assume, that god is cheating on us with all his (or her) omnipotence, then you can give up thinking about him anyway, since you'll never be able to make out the truth. But in this case it's obvious, that he doesn't want us to believe in him. That again contradicts at least the christian and islamic believe systems, which claim that he expects us to believe.
A very good point.
The Bible has two different creation myths in it's first book. Only one of them can be right (if at all). The second one contradicts the first one.

Not to mention all the cases where the theory of an all loving god contradicts everyday experience...
While you can't prove that there is no god (or similar esoteric entity), you can still prove that certain forms of religion are wrong and self-contradicting. Like Islam, Christianity and all this creationist stuff...
I would have thought about Ruby or Python for that kind of work. Both are easy to learn, easy to install and you can write everything from a shell script to a fully featured application.
But Visual Basic would work as well I guess...
If they found out after 25 years, that Gibson is good enough to make a film, why don't they use some of the later books? Like "Idoru" or "Pattern Recognition"? While I liked "Neuromancer", characters, plot and language in his later books where far more developed.
And give up the one chance in you live to become a robotic overlord? WIRE ME! WIRE ME!
bbc has a nice article on that too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_environment/10212836.stm

That's an Israeli comedy by Ephraim Kishon, where a guy digs a canal on a main road in Tel Aviv. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaumilch_Canal
I volunteer to write them an app that creates a waggle pattern based on gps data

Really, what else to say? That's a democratic country and you would find far more White-Power-Supremacists in your country...

Buy him one of those simple robot kits (like lego mindstorm or something) The things are fun... but utterly useless without programming

Because that 1% is enough to be sure that the universe is several billion years old instead of a mere 6,000...
