because its very hard and expensive for the average joe to file a patent. They are reserved aparently for big companies only.. What are you talking about? My stepfather just patented a new remote controlled airplane design (shameless plug: here) not too long ago. I can't imagine it cost more than $500 at the MOST.
because to sue a big company you need cash.. This would be a bit more like the reason.
BTW, you've just responded to complete sarcasm. Congratulations. I could put YHBT here, but the thing is, the original poster wasn't even trolling.
Try writing readable code to begin with. Unless you're one of those people that thinks fitting as much as possible on one line and single-char variable make you 733t.
I've given up trying to find decently priced DVD* media in physical stores. The best I found (I'm stationed overseas in Italy, so maybe that's part of it) was a pack of 5 Apple DVD-Rs (obviously rebranded but I'm too lazy to get the mfr code) for about 18 euro..
Some places charge upwards of 11e a disc, and the BX over here only sells +R media. They sell a -R and a +R writer, but only +R media, and only singles at that. I feel like those early adopters of CD-R did.:p
I might add that you can find in here a firmware for the A05/105 that not only does this, but gives RPC-1 and 2x burn to any media capability.
2x for all media is pretty nice, because otherwise you're stuck with just the table in the firmware that's been "officially" tested to work with 2x - of course, some media won't do well at 2x. I have good luck with Ritek G03 media though.
Sorry, I should have said that better. I mean that it isn't LAN, because that doesn't work. It has to be online.
I know very well it's offline too; I still have a couple DC characters that had more than half their time offline. (But my FOmarl has HUGE problems in Hard Ruins still... stupid lv58... I haven't played in so long:p)
Well, it's not as great as I thought it was before, but it's still a wonderful game, and I wish they'd port it:)
I have a C64 emulator for almost the sole purpose of playing that game. (And I have a Win98 VirtualPC install so that I *can* play it. 1gb of software to play a game that takes up about 60k.... go figure.:p)
I use Winamp2 for a very nice reason. I *like* the SqrSoft Advanced Crossfading Output plugin. Gapless playback of anything, crossfading that's just beautiful. If foobar2000 had that, I'd switch.:)
While that's possible, they haven't come up with a working implementation yet.
Here is a supposed "working implementation"... but it's an April Fool's joke, and only reduces size to 0.
While it's truly POSSIBLE with Ogg, the way the files are organized right now is not conducive to peeling. There's talk on the boards of a tool that would reorganize the data frames and make it much easier, but most want to see the codec tuned as well as MP3 has been.
Yeah, my uses for VPC for Win include running it on a box at work so I can test out Linux installs for home (as I don't have a connection there yet) and running old games that just won't run even with enabling Win98 compatibility.
And I never played Descent2 with a 3D accelerator before, either. It's like a dream.:)
3. They can discontinue products for the mac and make people use VPC for compatability until they are willing to switch over to their platform. Either way, its Microsoft software they are using. This would be kind of stupid. MS charges more for the Mac versions of its software, and on top of that, who runs a Mac to run PC software? They'd find some other alternative. Office X is just convenience.
I kinda liked the idea of multiple people in the town at the same time, though. But Porter holding your axe at the door sounds great. Needs to hold your shovel, too... (If you're trying for perfect balance, remember that too many trees will throw you out of whack just as much as too few)
Item duping is already simple. For the transferrable items, you can create a new town and make codes for it, then enter them multiple times. For nontransferrable ones, putting them on your island and then visiting that island in the other town works well.
You know, I was talking with a couple of my friends about that and we came up with a really cool way to allow online town visiting and still prevent people from deforesting your town...
A central chat channel (maybe divided) and friend-lists. (I didn't say it was anything new.) Basically you'd talk for a while and you could allow people into your town, presumably only people you trusted. Alternately there could be ways to not allow people to cut the trees etc in your town unless you gave them permission:)
which games on the GCN are LAN-only as of now? It's a great idea, but the only game that comes to mind is PSO, and that *has* to be online. So could someone fill me in on which games are LAN-only? I remember reading in EGM about one that could support 16-player mode with the LAN, but that's about it..
Yeah, I don't think that the schools are going to prove to be the sole factor in Linux on the desktop, but it's a good step. Remember way back when, when Apple donated a bunch of Macs to the schools? Yeah, then the parents all bought Macs for compatibility and because their kids knew how to use them.
That was when computers were new; however, teaching them how to use Linux at a young age can affect how they decide later on. Now when they see Linux, they won't think "Ugh, I'm not going to be able to use it, so even if it is free..." - they'll be thinking "Hmm, I learned how to do this in school, maybe I'll try it at home."
Why are they keeping these separate? Maybe that's what they need to do - combine emusic and MP3.com... a membership to one is a membership to the other. If you're subscribed to emusic you get high quality streams off MP3.com, and are able to download music straight from emusic... sounds like a nice deal to me.
MP3.com discovered that legal fees and bandwidth costs couldn't be covered by the very very small amount of cash coming in from ads.
Rather than go to a pay model they just decided to drop their higher streams... Maybe they should have had a system where you can pay some negligible fee (25 a year, perhaps) to hear the high bandwidth streams, and the low ones are free?
Personally, I put them in the microwave when I'm done with them.
This has a significantly different effect than CDs, too.. DVDs have crawling sparks from the center, CDs just flash and they're done. Both cool effects, but alternately fun.:)
I just bought a Zire 71 (replacing my old m505) and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. It is MUCH faster than my old one (yes, it did have noticeable delays that are now gone) and the higher res screen makes my main use for it (reading books) much more tolerable.
PocketTunes + OGG: never have to pay for the program since it disables only mp3 after 15 days (I'm still going to buy it eventually, though: really cool program.)
The only gripe I have is that like all the newer Palms, it uses SD/MMC, and I wish it used CF...
Wow, I suck. I didn't even do a plug right.
:P
It's supposed to be www.unicornventures.com but I'm stupid and don't know how to do HTML tags.

First try writingon a PDA, then tell me about readable code. It's hard enough writing the "unreadable" code...
All your spam are belong to us, what you say... :)

LOL. For not having seen that movie in so many years, that clicked in my mind REALLY FAST. Very nice. :)
this is SCO's doing, no matter what anyone says...

How do you keep you monitor big and you equipment easy to carry?
:)
Such a question resulted in the very piece of equipment we're discussing!
Which the blind person can really see, seeing as he's blind, therefore the person pointing is just as visible as the movie theater itself.

Still, the Zire 71 is WELL worth the 300.
