I think the Navy was doing this stuff back in Vietnam. I watched a documentary where they regretted not using killer whales in the Hanoi harbor to exploit the Vietnamese cultural fear of large fish.
I'm getting to the debate late, but I'd like to share my experiences as a dependent of a parent in the US Army through the 80s. Much of my childhood I went to DoDDS (schools for military children overseas) and got a very right-wing flavored version of American history. Much of it you see almost mainstream today. I learned that hippies protesting is what caused us to lose in Vietnam, Ronald Reagan was the greatest President and ended the Cold War. I also learned nothing about Iran/Contra and his involvement in selling weapons to a terrorist nation to support drug dealers peddling crack in America. I later learned that all the objects to Gulf War I was nothing but wussy rants from a new age of hippies trying to lose another war for the US. In turn, I did NOT learn that the US gave permission to Saddam to invade Kuwait.
It took about 10 years, but I managed to unlearn much of the propaganda I had pumped into my head back then.
For instance, a person could find out information about their vehicle's maintenance needs through the Android phone. In the case of the Volt, GM's coming electric car, an owner may be able to keep track of the car's battery charge without being in the car.
This sounds like a built-in driving auditing system that Big Brother can quietly use to track our comings and goings. And, considering Google's cozy relationship with the Feds, I suspect that's exactly what it is.
So, how come Laissez-Faire, don't-tell-corporations-how-to-run-themselves, deregulation didn't stop this from happening? It doesn't make any sense! I mean BP is an oil company. Can you guys help me blame this on Big Government?
There's a difference between trade and "free trade." An embargo that shuts down *all* trade with the largest nation in the hemisphere is only the opposite of free trade in the simplest of minds.
I was an avid newsgroup poster years ago, but the spam and typical lack of administration ruined it for me. Newsgroups were fun and I'll fondly remember downloading pics of Julia Taylor from alt.binaries.redheads or whatever, but time marches on.
I've seen plenty of these experiments; especially from musicians. What ends up happening is everyone pays jack squat for the application and the artists scratch their heads dumbfounded that all the fans, claiming they were sticking it to the man by pirating music, are now sticking it to the artists. That being said, I'll probably contribute even though I'm not interested in the product (as I have before) because I dreadfully want to see this work.
Can we stop with hyperbolic negative comments about TPM? Did it not live up to a lot of expectations? Yes. Was it in the same league as Drop Dead Fred? No. I bet this douchebag has it on VHS, DVD, and Blue Ray.
I don't know what's scarier; that a foreigner knows more about our government than the average citizen or that our "lobbyism plague" has sprouted boils ugly and red enough to be seen from across an ocean.
How does violating my privacy make for better service? Am I really better served because every company I ever deal with shares my info with every one of their partners, so I'm flooded with directed advertising every time I make a purchase? I'm of the contemporaneously radical opinion that I should be able to fly on an airline without giving any more access than necessary to inspect my baggage and person.
Wrong, try enforcing diplomacy or declarations of war with armed sheriffs. I believe it was Wall Street fraud investigations that States just had their enforcement powers stripped from. If it's under Federal jurisdiction, then the Feds get to say if you get to enforce it. Just like Sheriff Arapaio lost his immigration enforcement authorization by blindly profiling dark-skinned American citizens.
Teabagger logic, huh? Anyone who disagrees with you is an America-hating socialist fascist homo? And, the idea that State law can "mirror" Federal Law is a silly talking point you've all been indoctrinated to run amok regurgitating. Federal law TRUMPS State law. Is Arizona going to "mirror" Federal declarations of war next?
You do understand that States don't get to have powers just because the Federal government does, too. Right? You understand that there are powers granted to the Federal government that the States Constitutionally cannot enforce, right?
Step one for you is to understand that the Constitution is more than your favorite Amendment.
So, where are all those Champions of the Constitution now that a US State has willfully and knowingly passed a law that opens the door to Gestapo-like dragnet searches of American citizens? Gee, I wonder why this isn't such and important issue for them...
I don't know much about mechanical engineering, but as cool as this looks I question the value of these kinds of robotic projects. Exactly what value is this to science in the remotely near future? These guys are our best and brightest. I'd like to see this effort redirected into artificial limbs.
I was really excited about the Volt coming out. Then, I saw how they watered down the design of the prototype. It's as boring as a cardboard box now.
Let the hottest one win

Don't waste your praise. Thank Scalia. Thomas just echoes whatever votes Scalia dictates he make.

Hmmm...I've noticed that any criticism of Google gets you modded down.

Amen to that, brudda. Dead Space took me a long time to finish because I had to keep taking "scared poopless" breaks.
Citation please, or is that a rant you heard on the radio this morning?

hehe I just made my girlfriend watch Blade Runner this weekend

As if a million oil execs cried out and were suddenly silenced.

I think Shepard Smith coined the abbreviation Breathing While Latino.

So, you're saying you'd like to see a Beowulf cluster of these missiles? Nice job sneaking that meme in!
