    There are a lot of electrical effects that can generate electricity without a turbine, but we have found them to be useless at MW scale.

    They did not "pull it together".
    Several big copyright holders demanded a solution, and one of them could convince a minister who started a state commission (directed by the PDG of FNAC, a French media and hi-fi retailer) mandated to review possibilities.
    Those copyright holders might be worthless too, but they are still different from MPAA, and France is a very different country from the USA.

    There is no US-like class-action lawsuit in French law.
    Also, the "entertainment industry" is actually quite fragmented, there are a lot of smaller groups which could not afford a proper lawsuit

    Well I used to agree with you, and as a driver myself I like to speed too.
    But since speeding ticket machines were generalized here in France death count on the road really dropped... So what to think?

    I now think that bad driver + speeding = death, whereas bad driver + slow driving = injuries at worst.

    According to a French interview ( http://www.zataz.com/news/19125/Rencontre-avec-Hacker-Croll--le-visiteur-de-Twitter.html ), he did not hack Obama's account, just some random employee from Twitter. He did gain admin privileges, but he did not hack twitter; and the password recovery was from Yahoo's webmail.
