Domain name registrations are crooked! Why, I hear Amarni didn't even get to register Armani.com!
Seriously, tho... remember when Xerox and Kleenex got their panties in a bunch insisting their names weren't generic? Has anyone tried registering one or the other and arguing that it's a generic term? ie, 'Hand me a kleenex' or 'go Xerox my arse'?
What have your biggest problems been with fighting the misconceptions that free (as in freedom) software is not, as Microsoft seems to have all the media outlets trained to believe, free (as in beer) software? What changes in the media need to occur to help make this line more distinct?
Finally, someone gets it right. I sincearly hope Time takes the author of that article and makes him Senior Internet Consultant or the like. There's not enough intelligent technology reporting in the news these days.
*sigh* I really need to remember to research everything before making comments about journalism... this is why I'd never make it as a reporter. I stand corrected.
Still can't believe everyone's decided it's either the Chiense or a US frame-job, tho...
According to the Yahoo story, Code Red was named after a soft drink prefered by programmers...
Excuse me? The Code Red drink hasn't been around long enough to be prefered by programmers... don't you think it's far more likely to say that 'Code Red' was chosen simply to make people think it's more dangeous than it really is?
They also blame the thing on the Chinese... sure, if a virus made to doS the White House puts text saying 'Hacked By Chinese' on your screen, you're going to believe it? Just like all those guys on Counter-Strike servers a few months ago talking about Wang Wei were really Chinese, too...
Journalists are so -gullible- when they're trying trying to start a panic...
You notice that the writeup doesn't mention these are naturally-occuring pillars? You make it sound like they're man-made Greek columns or something...
Messages that are easy to understand... nice idea, but I don't think the human race is into this. Can you think of one person in your life who uses simple-to-understand messages beyond "Hot dog? Buck fifty, pal"? We're born knowing that we cry about anything that's bad... being able to communicate anything more than "I'm unhappy" requires a lot more complication that just "Whaaaaaaaah!"
Still, it's a good idea in theory. It'll just be a lot like learning a new langauge, a whole new way to communicate. If it can work.
Another massive, expensive upgrade, that all the latest games will require you to use (after all, they won't run on old cards 'cause they can't be programmed)...
Screw it. I'm not paying more than two hundred for a video card. Anyone who'd shell out six hundred for one of these is insane. You can get another box for that much, pre-rebate.
From the page: . A shrunken coin weighs exactly the same afterwards, and its density is also unchanged - it's merely the shape that's been altered.
Okay... the density and mass stay the same (This assumes gravity hasn't increased to keep weight the same for less mass). But the quarter has 'shrunk'. This implies less volume. Unless the quarter has grown thicker to compensate for the smaller diameter, how the hell can the coin's density not change?
Along with the internal speaker, does it have a line-out or headphone jack? 'cause then just combine it with a paid of those monitor-in-your-glasses, speakers-in-your-ears headsets, and you could get a few looks watching movies on a plane or whatever...
Hrm. Needs a good portable keyboard, too... what's the smallest keyboard available these days?
When did Symantec patent the computer virus? And where's the updates? I only see the main story... how did this get by me so fast that you guys could update it... does this mean we hafta pay Symantec every tiem we send out a mail saying ILOVEYOU?

JonKatz is really a sixteen-year-old. It'd explain some(most?) of his writing.

A Canadian company brings suit against an American website under British law?
Am I the only one who thinks something is seriously out of whack here? Is this even legally possible?
If so, I want to start bringing suit against people under Afganistan laws....

Simple solution. These stores must have to tell you they do this if you ask them. And if they do, never shop there again.
'Innocent until proven guilty' is a maxim that only applies to the justice system. As a corporation, MS is free and clear allowed to do this.
If you pay money for it, feel free to complain. If you don't plan on paying for it, then nobody cares what you think.
One of the reasons I'm glad I got out of there in four years. For some reason, an actual, sensible policy seems to be beyond their ability to create.

...we won't be seeing any of the long-awaited "Corel For X-Box" products?
I guess it's soon time to get a new video card. I'm hoping Deus Ex 2 is gonna use that engine... that'd lend itself to sweet cinematics...

"Napster can be shut down and sued if they don't stop violating copyrights."
Natural response: Napster gets bought up by music company, turns into a subscription service, and only shares music from the parent compeny.
Gee, it's almost like a certain company saw this coming...

Dangit. Maybe WIPO-sucks is still open... or WIPO-really-sucks... hey, there's plenty of combinations...
