Exactly - any scientific theory is presented and assumed to be _false_ unless substantiated with claims. Intelligent design is not a "theory" because there are no factual claims to bring to the table. When a theory is presented to the scientific table without any valid claims, it is dismissed outright.
The worst thing the scientific community can do in this case, is to acknowledge "intelligent design" as even a "theory".
It needs to be ignored, and called "Creationism" as it rightly is.
900 Mhz, Eh? That's about the same frequency that wireless home phones were "trendy" on about 7 years ago. Luckily, home wireless phones operate at 2.4 Ghz these days.
I guess the current KGB/MI5/current US "black agency" have moved on to nano-based surveillance, since the FCC now allows 2.4 Ghz...
You appear to be a Microsoft shill. Why would you mention the operating system ("Vista") as some point of significance in a browser usage story - particularly in a 'we are losing' context?
Hopefully, Jeb will pull us out of this debacle in 2008 and restore funding to public-interest projects and pull funding from the "fat cats" / corporations.
Sorry, but I won't be convinced until I hear praises [at least on here] from users with a sub 450,000 Slashdot ID.
I'm not knocking higher SDIDs, however, I think there is some street-cred with lower IDs. Perhaps I'm an elitist, or perhaps I'm just an old-timer whom has noticed a disproportionate number of pro-Microsoft-without-substantiation posts since MSFT 'acknowleged' FOSS/Linux. Circa 600,000 with regard to slashdot IDs.
Well it looks like C# will be alive and well for some time to come. This article definitely had the feel of Jesse Liberty's Programming C# OReilly book.
My interpretation: "C# _will_ be alive and well..." = a future desired outcome, while truthfully declaring a clear knowledge of it's existing failure state
"had the feel of Jesse Liberty's Programming C# OReilly book" = a grab at [some book] by a credible [FOSS] publisher
Anyway, as a C# developer, it's great to see the language isn't dying..
I heard: "I have credibility because I love programming in [insert any language here], it's great to see the language isn't dying...", however logic dictates that if you love programming in [insert your favorite language here], you aren't concerned about purported "death knells" of the language.
Well said. I'm a SysAdmin (and former coder), and while I could spend my time learning Ruby or whatever the latest thing is, I get paid to be a SysAdmin. Having tools in my toolbox is the biggest asset that I have; however, I don't _need_ to have a CAD-based water-jet, when a pair of tin-snips can do the simple jobs perfectly.
I may have lost something in that analogy, but I do a lot of EDI work. I can take a datafile, and rearrange the fields (and output some records into different files) using a single commandline. I could also write a PHP script (yes, I'm fond of commandline php [#!/usr/bin/php]), in dozens of lines of code.
It's cliche at this point, but K.I.S.S. and use the right tool for the job.
What's wrong with that? They are trying to make the game better by limiting cheating...
You young guys have a lot to learn - You can't be a 'l33t hax0r' and simultaneously complain when someone 'ch34ts' and beats you at your favorite game.
Because almost _everything_ as we know it would have to change. For example, how do you tell your employees to be at work at 8:00 UTC if some of them are in New York and others are in California?
Here's how: Have some of them come to work at 8:00 UTC, and others at 11:00 UTC? That is called having Time Zones.
Time Zones exist because of geography and physics. The Sun and Moon will be a specific places in certain geographic regions at certain, erhm, times. Benjamin Franklin was the one that proposed "Daylight Savings Time" as we now know it - in order to save Paris "Millions of Dollars"(century adjusted) in Candlewax use.
Candles were used for lighting homes at night back then.
Heat can produce Steam. Steam can produce Power. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only change form. Heat is a by-product of Engergy loss. Water has the lowest specific-heat-capacity on the planet.
I'm an engineer, but I don't have all of the peices of the puzzle. Perhaps/Hopefully this post will spark an idea or more importantly dialogue...
Fair enough. I think it's "The W'Dubbya Factor" that scares me. I can't help but think what our administration will do to my treasury bonds if "W" issues an executive order/war based on what the DHS/CIA tells him about Betty Crocker and her latest "goings on"!
I stand to lose hundreds/thousands of dollars (that I could have donated to the Church) based on our poor [interpretation of] government intelligence. If that doesn't scare you, only the Lord can save us.
How can _any_ government agency have a "Venture Capital" division, let alone the CIA? The CIA is can listen in on any conversation without any reason, yet they can create a corporation that 'invests' in other companies?
What is happening to our country?! Dubbya's administration is trying to blur the line between The Government of the People and "Big Business".
You're such a shill. Around the Beltway, his nickname is "Dennis Bastard".
He as full of shit as all of the other "SuperWealthy-ProBusiness-Anti-Consumer" Republicans. Don't try to pull one over on us.

I had linux mounting Netware drives 6 years ago, using a default Redhat 5.x install.
I don't recall the details now, but it's ncpmount or something like that.
You'll figure it out, ace - don't ask slashdot.

What's this we've got a long way to go stuff?

Welcome to the 5th of 8 years of "W".

Let's play "spot the shill":

Choice quotes:
"which are universal across all apps that use it"
"You can do everything and anything from the command line. WSH/WMI add a great deal more"
"Yes you can install ALL programs from the command line... expecially the ones designed to use the standard windows installer (.MSI)"
The proof is in the pudding.

BECAUSE THEY ARE IMPORTANT - asshole.
Perhaps you should read them before complaining about the CIVIL RIGHTS that you GAVE UP by AGREEING TO THE TERMS / USING THE PRODUCT.
What's wrong with that? They are trying to make the game better by limiting cheating...

It's a Republican government right now, remember? They don't care about the environment.
I agree. And the fact that this is set to go into effect after Hilary has been elected and before she's sworn in, makes is slightly dubious.
They're stealing, pure and simple.
If I could steal your $40,000 car so I could avoid potentially being harmed by a "killer chicken", would you still advocate theft?
I highly doubt it. IP is property, and anyone that says otherwise has never contributed a critical proprietary idea to society.
If you have a one-in-a-million idea, you deserve to be compensated for it - regardless of the fact that some people may kill for it.
Drop some of your needs!
Here's an idea - don't carry so much crap around.
Because almost _everything_ as we know it would have to change.

Yes, I know you guys in Alaska get nearly 24h dark in the winter. Sorry! Can't buck nature..
Sure you can - Live somewhere sane.
Timezones are of provincial authority.
You apparently don't live in the United States.
Oh wait...
What ever happened to Steam Power?
Heat can produce Steam. Steam can produce Power. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only change form. Heat is a by-product of Engergy loss. Water has the lowest specific-heat-capacity on the planet.

Is Heston's role a political one in this film? Or is it 'thought-provoking' in a secular way too?
Does anyone smell something fishy here?
