You either need to trust your vendor to provide patches, or you need to realize that in the real world, not everyone has time to make a test bed and test that every CVS patch works the way it is claimed to.
I implicity trust Redhat, Mandrake, and all the major Linux vendors for that matter; _implicitly_. Based on nothing more than the fact that they have a proven track record of being trustworthy, and not eavesdropping/abusing/fscking the consumer. Microsoft on the other hand has a notorious reputation for abusing customers, vendors, programmers and competitors. I won't provide any references because I'm quite certain that google will provide more than I care to count. Do the homework yourself if you don't already agree.
If for no other reason than that, I will trust Redhat to provide "vendor" patches because I have no reason not to. For the record, I'm not one of those "paranoid"/"I'll fix the code myself" people you spoke of. I'm just joe-average-sysadmin with my company's best interests in mind.
Not only that, but it now gives us the option of using decent wireless internet access in our automobiles. I'm going to be using 3G in the dashpc (www.dashpc.com) project.
I think this is great news for the US. Somehow, we missed the boat on CDMA when Europe, etc. jumped on it.
Technically, in this scenario win98 would be "rebooted" every time the car was turned on. By my calculations this would mean that Win98 would outperform linux by a factor of 3 (assuming that the car is used 3 times in a day). The more frequently you reboot a Win98 box the better performance you get from it because the memory is freed from improper malloc(s), the cache is cleared, and the buffers are as pure as the morning dew.
I agree. It is quite frigtening that you don't observe the natural evolution of language. If I saw "went ballistic" on a newspaper heading, I'm quite certain I would understand it.
I use bulletproof window film. For a car it will run you roughly the same cost as one of those lame $300 car alarms. And you get the peice of mind of knowing that a thief [probably] won't be able to GET IN to your car. I use this on the linuxcar and I sleep safely at night. Having a garage at home and at work doesn't hurt either.
Your best bet would be to treat the wireless stations as "untrusted" and VPN them into your network. As such, you'll get decent encryption over the wire(err, air rather) and you can lock them down nicely. It's the only real solution to wirelss security.
I think you're oversimplifying this. If MS takes me to court and I say, "I didn't click agree" (even if I did). Tee burden of proof is on THEM not ME. In a court system that is innocent until PROVEN GUILTY, theoretically, I would be found innocent. Microsoft simply CAN'T prove (at least not yet) that _I_ clicked "AGREE".
"During the install my mouse fell off the desk and I picked it up... I never clicked on any EULA though, nor did I ever get a chance to read one."
Even better than DD is partimage for linux. It does what DD does, but it only reads the portion of the drive that's being used. I install a linux partition on all my [required] Win boxes and when a luser fscks one of them up, i just copy the partition back over from the linux drive (using a partimage boot CD). It's really made my life easy. I'm not sure what the URL is, but a quick search on google for "partimage" will produce it.
Are you referring to this car? I tend to think that it's because linux is embeddable, highly customizable, and free. But that's just me. I'm not biased in this post what-so-ever.
Disclaimer: I am the owner of the vehicle I linked to.
I think you're missing the point... they registered the exact address. Not a "similar" one. I think this is actually quite scary. Hopefully, it's been fixed or will be very soon. If not I may have to go register gOOgle.com.
I actually bought 2 LCD's from Earth. The tech support isn't the greatest; but the new EarthVision 2 controller card is great. On-Screen controls, Auto-scan, etc. I put a 6.5" in my dashpc and the other is just a toy. I'll probably mount it on the wall or something. For a (vga) LCD you'll need:
LCD (duh)
controller (either PCI card or inline vga "analog" converter)
inverter - converts DC to AC for the BACKLIGHT
If the LCD's are relatively new, they will probably work with the Earthvision controller. Your best bet would probably be to get in touch with Earth and see if they can help you out.
I actually don't think it is. This guy _really_ belives he's right. Look at the domain: www.truepath.com - it's an _actual_ Xristian website. They even use deceptive pop-unders so they can make a buck and push thier cultism. These people are really starting to scare me. Believe what you will, but don't try to convince me that pokemon was created for anything other than the corporate buck. I like the Jesux article better. The apple article really scares me though.
Or in contrast, can't we donate some of "our" Microsoft licenses to the school? I can think of _at least 3_ former MS boxen that I converted over to Linux (including an Exchange Server, woo hoo!). I would be willing to ship them 3 licenses as a "donation". Since I can't sell the licenses and they're sitting on our shelf collecting dust. If a big group of linux users donated thier former M$Win licenses they could probably come out of it unscathed.
I will add this functionality to the dashpc now that I have the ODBII link working. I will config it to snap a pic every mile and upload them to the website. Since it's automated, you'll be able to get the pics ever time I pull into the parking garage...
It's apparent that your upgrade (per your very own sig) was not successful. Illegal by definition is il-legal (legal meaning law). So your very argument it brainless. FWIW, UnLAWful means not LAWful. As such, your point is null and void (how's that for legalese). Waiddamminute, did I just get pulled into trollbait?! Uhg....
Or make a commercial that discusses why important systems shouldn't use inferior systems (M$). Toward the close of the commercial interrupt the video and audio with a silent "BSOD" until the end of the commercial.
Viewers would see it and make that all to familiar association.
I would tend to think that the sites they mapped were in areas considered "DMZ" or De-Militarized-Zone. It's basic System's Administration... I think these Brits aren't giving our spooks enough credit.
Isn't water relatively dense? I believe it weighs about 33 pounds per cubic foot if I'm not mistaken. Even a cupful would significantly add to the weight of a portable I would think.
That's it! I'm packing my bags and moving to Canada. I'm now convinced that our government is in the back pocket of MS and corporate interests. Enron is just the beginning. Welcome to the end...
I want it for my car. I have a computer in it with a 6.4" LCD. This would be perfect to give me that "hood-mounted webcam" that I've always wanted. If you haven't seen it, it's at dashpc.com.

I would like to offer to make this mod to anyone who can provide me (and the dashpc team) with this volvo. Our references can be found here and here.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a shameless plug.

Ok, strange enough the link is: http://www.partimage.org.

This one does. It's even open source.

DeKa Corporation is named after himself: DEan KAmen
- LCD (duh)
- controller (either PCI card or inline vga "analog" converter)
- inverter - converts DC to AC for the BACKLIGHT
If the LCD's are relatively new, they will probably work with the Earthvision controller. Your best bet would probably be to get in touch with Earth and see if they can help you out. There's a better solution on the horizon: Dashboard Linux! Let's beat the closed source fatcats to the next big industry.

That would be SOOOOO NICE!!!
