  1. Re:Quake 3 Fortress on Rocket Arena For Quake 3 Arena Released · · Score: 1

In case you haven't played it, there is a totally incredible class based mod, Weapons Factory for quake 3. The classes are more refined, you have stuff like laser guns and alarm systems, mines, and each class has a different model. The levels in this mod are pretty spectacular. There are actual dark places to hide (its not camping, its war) and other than that the levels just have a great look and feel. Now one model I would like to see ported to linux quake2 or a whole new quake3 version is the class based aliens vs humans mod that I just can't quite think of the name at the moment. Oh well...

  6. dont hate me... on Happy Birthday, KDE · · Score: 1

You know... I don't get why KDE has such a bad rap. This might be offtopic but any time I mention that I use KDE all the hackers tell me how "it sucks." Ok, I am sorry that I got used to a desktop environment that is comfortable to use, easy to configure and comes with a nice suite of applications. If you don't use something, why does that mean everything else has to suck? I don't go around saying how other window managers suck because I have used them and I know its a matter of personal preferance and taste. So, for a desktop that has been around so long... Why does it have such a bad rap? Is it because it looks like windows in some twisted way of looking at it? I thought personally it looked more like mac. It actually is neither and who cares because if you don't like it, dont use it because this is linux and linux is all about freedom of choice. So happy birthday KDE, from us users who don't care what other people say sucks.

Most of the files I got from http://www.fission.net/otr/archive.html but there are some pay places like rusc.com and one at http://www.oldtimeradiovault.com that has soooo much that if I had a large bandwidth I would sign up for a month at least to grab files (Which they do sell the whole set of 97 CDs or something which is insane!) Then if you have the player you just decode and re-encode the files... but there has to be a simple command line way with mpeg123 that I havent bothered to mess with yet, maybe next batch. I had pretty much the same experiences... Since I had my old plain sony discman with no shock protection, I just took the AC adapter from that. The ear buds broke on me a couple weeks ago... the wire from the one just came right out from the rest of it... I love the ni-cad battery charging feature. I keep the AC adapter near my bed with some old PC speakers so I can use it to listen to old radio shows and it charges up the batteries while I sleep. One thing about those old radio shows, they were recorded at 22Khz, and the player uses 44.1Khz, so I had to do a lot of re-encoding but music files are pretty much all 44.1Khz and anything 192bps on down to 32bps plays fine. Even VBR files play ok, even though the counter goes crazy heheh. What I would like to see in the next generation is a screen that would tell you what exactly you are listening to so I wouldnt have to make printouts of the directories. Also perhaps more randomization functions so that you can have it not only play a random song, but not play two songs from the same album in a row. But, at the price it was, even if the cheap earbuds and useless adapter didnt come with it... it would still be worth it. I love the thing! I mean... 14 hours of music on a single CD!!

I happed to own the "mptrip" or whatever it is really called (the actual player has no real brand on it, just says 'MP3') and I find having the CDR as media to be really convenient. You can buy blank CDR in bulk for under 40 cents a piece and burn discs like crazy. The player finds Mp3 even on mixed data/mp3 CDRs, so if your friend has a CD with his backup or whatever on it, you can just pop it in. Another great thing is that I can put the CD into anyones computer and play it. How many people have minidisc hooked up to their PCs?

I learned a hell of a lot more in my "programming language concepts" class than I did in the first two "intro to programming" classes, which by the way everyone in the school calls them "C++," which totally agrivates me due to the fact that they should be learning how to program and not the specifics of a language like that. It is the little time savers and the methodologies that go along with programming that help the job go smoothly, not the fact that you hacked up some code that finally works in such a short period of time. I actually have experience with this because I beta tested AOL 5.0 for a while. It would in fact create something in the dial up networking settings, and after using AOL you could not use your other ISP's if you had one. Now, this would only happen I think if you used AOL first, If you reboot the other ISP would work... or maybe you had to create the connections over again and then it was ok. I haven't however tested any of the recent versions so they might have changed something. The problem I think is that a lot of beta testers really did not know what they were doing, and did not know how to properly use the bug report system. I remember that a few suggested to reccomend features to the non-beta suggestion section of AOL instead of adressing it in the beta newsboard (Which the beta staff did read.)
