You know, you're right about those Republicans, they sure are a bunch of lyin', cheatin' bastards. I know I, like you, will hold my head high and walk proud, safe and seccure in the knowledge that Democrats have never pulled election-day shenanigans. Sheesh.
Scientists don't understand the solar year, or what really causes it - so this could be a fluke or something else. So far it is just an interesting observation.
This is either a troll or you are the world's biggest asshole just begging to get shitcanned. I mean, come on, 9600 baud modem? Hey, the 90's called, they're looking for their elitist "I'm a super-programmer" attitude! And take your smelly dog home too.
I've got some really old Byte issues, including the one introducing the Mac Plus (512k? whatever) on the cover. Pretty sweet looking at the state of the art in 1981. One of these days I'm going to scan them in, that would be *so* cool!:-P
Smokescreen on!

For chrissake people, he damn well knew the terms of use when he signed the contract to purchase the GM canola seeds. Agree or disagree with contracts, GM foods, or any other quibble, but if you sign a contract, you abide by it, not try to weasel out of it with lame-ass excuses when you're caught red-handed!! It's as simple as that, as was discovered by the highest court in the (Canadian) land. We have a quaint term for this in America, "Busted."
"Ooh, I didn't even use Round-up, so I'm innocent," yeah, more like a dumb-ass.
We also have the constitutionally provided right to not be tried twice for the same crime, or "double jeopardy".... It sure is different from "we'll try you once, and if that doesn't work try you again in a second court that by the way has a lesser standard of guilt."
Great concept, not a knock on the original poster, but criminal then civil trial is becoming a more common tactic for when the original prosecution fails to prove their case. Or, what should be a clear-cut case of a violation of the fifth amendment, the practice of trial for the original crime then a second one for violating the victim's civil rights. Both of which are criminal prosecutions for the same crime.
I find VBA to be one of the most underappreciated languages even though it is at the core of manipulating the most widely used desktop software in the world.
Who the hell modded this as a troll??? This guy/gal is absolutely correct, VBA is a great language to use. It's simple to get started with, easy to understand, and one can write complex applications if need be.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict tons of posts of "dump cisco now!!" here. It'll never happen, Cisco will shrug this off. There's no way that the corporate infrastructure is going to be torn up, Cisco has too much penetration and momentum. Acutally, I bet it won't even hit mainstream media and be barely a footnote in NetworkWorld and related trade rags.
There will be no wholesale move off of Cisco products. Why?
Who else are you going to use?
Who is going to pay for the new hardware?
When are you going to do the upgrading?
Let's roleplay the conversation between the CIO and CEO/COO:
CTO: Hey boss, I need $x million to replace all our Cisco equipment NOW! CEO: Hmm, that's a lot of work and money, are they broken? CTO: Well, no, but there's an extremely serious vulnerability! CEO: <blinks> CTO: Every Cisco box has the same administrative password! CEO: <starts to watch the window washers and birds outside> CTO: Anyone can log in to our systems with this password CEO: Hmm, I see....Is that bad? CTO: Yes, which is why they need to be replaced. CEO: Well, it certainly sounds serious. Why don't you prepare a proposal, get buyin with the Regional VPs and Directors, run it by Frank in operations, and then talk to my assistant Tiffany and get some time on my schedule. CTO: Sir, I think it should be expedited. CEO: Yes, hmm. So have you heard how Tiger is doing at the Masters today?
The bottom line is, most CIO/CTO's of non-IT companies could give a flying f**k what runs their networks as long as it works, stays up most of the time, is not too expensive, and is recommended.
My contribution to the Microsoft coffers since 2000? $-0-
So what's your point? Many people can agree with this with the proliferation of Kazaa and other P2P apps. Some people can even boast further back than that;-)
You have hit the nail on the head, but for a different reason. I take my car in for repair; the parts are 2x what I can get them for at Autozone or Internet, and the hours quoted to fix are about 2x what I'd figure it would take, both conspire to make me feel like I'm getting taken advantage of.
Some programmers/consultants are the same way. The rate quoted is a little on the high side, and the work that sucky ones do is dodgy at best and is non-functional at worst. But, the client still has to pay, and he/she feels they were taken advantage of.
Both professions are ones that, a) the simple stuff is easy to do such as oil changes or Excel spreadsheets/VB, b) the harder stuff is exceedingly difficult to do yourself, and c) when you decide to take the harder things on, oftentimes you wish you hadn't because the problem is worse.
Amen brother, Smash TV was the most grotesque game of it's era. Does anyone remember the body pieces that would fly up at the screen when you shot someone? And how "curvy" the models that were with the host were? But it's all good because you're not shooting cops. OK, right.
And you may ask yourself, Are these legitimately obtained ROMs? And you may ask yourself, Am I right? Am I wrong? And you may tell yourself, My God, what have I done!
So what's the deal with that? "Everybody" gets up in arms with NYT having to register in order to read the articles. Big f-king deal, at least you can actually **read** the articles!!
Salon gives you 2 lousy paragraphs and then they have the tease to buy a subscription or watch a lousy ad for a day's pass. Now which is more intrusive?!?
</rant>
Can someone explain why the NYT registration is evil when they give you for free the entire content of the newspaper, and Salon is the hero since they have more and more as un-free "premium" content?
Yeah well he has a point though... these "inside jokes" do get old at some point. I mean, come on... there's like thousands of 'em 1-2-3 profit jokes by now or something, attached to every story for too long to remember.
Maybe because all those with elite degrees don't have time to be a slacker trolling slashdot? ;-)
Come on, $536 Million? Might as well be $536.00 for all it will affect Microsoft.
Well, let me be the first to commend you on your willingness to speak for the entire rest of the world. Hip-Hip-Hurrah!!
It's nice to know that Americans don't have a corner on being pompous.
You know, you're right about those Republicans, they sure are a bunch of lyin', cheatin' bastards. I know I, like you, will hold my head high and walk proud, safe and seccure in the knowledge that Democrats have never pulled election-day shenanigans. Sheesh.
Christy Canyon does have a nice set of eyes though. :-)
And she sure beats the hell out of "Super Off-Road 4x4 for the SNES" too
The answer is obvious, IT'S GLOBAL WARMING!!!
