No enchants above 150 skill on items below lvl 20 req and no enchants above lvl 225 on items below lvl 30 req. That would solve the "Twink" problem. No +100 chest, no crusader, no +15 agi no fiery. the difference between a shadowfang and a cruel barb is not that great, its the +15 agi, crusader, fiery, lifestealing etc that make "twinks" so much more powerful.

As for skill, most people would call my 10-19 a "twink" (many blues +100 HP chest, +7 sta bracers n boots) that toon is revered and i have other exalted toons. I pvp alot, I know what I'm doing and I know how to win. As a horde, we're outgreared and outleveled in probably 60% of games, but for some reason I seem to win about 80% of the time. Some developers will do this, however, there will have to be a VERY compelling reason to run that app/game. Back when Apple switched to OSX Diablo2 was a hot game. For a period of time after OSX was released there was no carbon (OSX) version and you had to reboot into OS 9.x to run Diablo2. That was a huge PITA. People did it because they liked the game. It was a huge releief when the OSX native carbon version was released, and it was so compelling to Blizzard that they released OSX patches for Starcraft and Brood War (On the cheap rack well before OSX came out). The Bungie games Myth2 and Marathon, both "abandoned" prior to OSX's release have been community ported to OSX. Rebooting to run 1 app SUX and people will go to great lengths to avoid it.

Mac users don't like putting up with kludgy crap to run an app. If an OSX alternative is availbale, they will use it. Even when a "free" (as in beer) version is available using another method. A good example is the variety of apps available via X11 and fink/darwinports. A number of alternative apps are availble free for the taking from the X11 world and most Mac users hate to use them. (Before you fire up your keyboard to tear me a new one, the slashdot mac crowd is NOT most mac users, I use fink and I'd guess many other /.ing mac users do too).

On the flip side, if there IS a compelling reason to go boot windows, people will do it. At least for a while. During the OSX switch Quark took a long time to put out an OSX version. People stuck with Quark and they stuck with dual booting (or not upgrading to OSX) until Quark came around. As with linux, people make a conscious decision to run OSX. The "no-brainer" is to go to Best Buy and purchase a Windows PC. What that usually means is that Mac users, do not WANT to be running Windows. They might if they have to... for a while But a developer saying "Sure we support macs, boot into windows" is not going to fly if there are viable alternatives to her app.

Xerox received Apple stock in exchange for showing Apple the details of its GUI. It was understood that Apple would apply that knowledge to creating its own GUI for the consumer market which Xerox had no interest in. "Stealing" was not involved.

As I understand the music disagreement, Apple Comp's position is that they are allowed to distribute digital content through their 1991 settlement. Apple Corp's position is that the current shift in the music business to non-physical media has changed the music climate and the settlement should allow for that.

I'd just point out that Apple's position on DRM has been decidely pro consumer. The "little guy stealing" you claim "Jobs" is against have quite a bit of freedom WRT Apple products. The iPod and iTunes happily play non-DRM'd music (iTunes even plays OGG with a codec extension). Apple has not gone out of their way to prevent users from copying DRM AAC music. There are numerous solutions for removing the DRM. Apple even featured your "victim" in the "Rip, Mix, Burn" ad campaign which I'm quite certain Steve-o signed off on.

I cant think of any computer examples off hand (lenovo seems to be making good laptops) but in the 70's and 80's boys everywhere dreamed of owning a GT bicycle.. A few years ago Pacific Cycles purchased GT and you can now buy cheap GT's in Wal Mart.

If Apple switches to building commodity PC hardware running windows they will simply be leveraging the Apple and Macintosh name (one of the most recognized brands in the world) to stave off the inevitable end.

Personally, I hope this is a sign that Apple is taking performance VERY seriously. Apple needs to be able to show the mac creative community that they can produce hardware which makes sticking with Apple worthwhile. Apple actually has some economy of scale advantage in the high performance graphics workstation arena. Most Windows PC's sold are of the cheap variety. Apple's high end machines sell as fast they can produce them and they are the ONLY OSX high end workstation producer. I'm sure MORE Windows high end graphics workstations are sold overall, but no one company has huge production. Dont be surprised to see Apple produce an incredible high end machine CHEAPER than the competition.

Even then I had to turn off dashboard on the iBook (I dont really use it on any of my macs anyway).

Both machines are still great for general desktop work and light development. As an example, I have a heart rate monitor I use for athletic performance evaluation. The software supplied by the HRM manufacturer is windows only. Aside from a few game developers (Blizzard) most Mac game versions trail the release of the Windows version by a significant margin. This could lower sales of mac games because gamers will already own Windows versions and will be reluctant to shell out full price for an "old" game.

I have my doubts that this will effect most of the titles that make it to the mac, though it will effect some. Most of the games ported to the mac are successful quality games. Games people play and keep playing, not something you play for a month and move on. Its a huge pain in the wazoo to have to reboot to play a game of Counter Strike, etc... Mac users have already been through this, recently. When Apple transitioned to OSX gamers had to reboot into classic MacOS to run most of their games, and it was a hassle. people switched to OSX native versions as soon as they were available. In the case of Diablo2, the OSX version never ran quite as fast as the OS9 version, but even with the slight slowdown and lower stability (of D2) it was better not to have to reboot in order to play a game.

I do think it will effect the garbage titles. If the game sucks Mac gamers might buy the PC version on impulse, but there will be no reson to get the Mac version when its available. Currently, some garbage games make it to the mac. That wont last.
