HTTP isn't dumb, it's (mostly) Stateless. Instead of that, what about building net applications around stateful protocols instead of some stupid hack and likely security nightmare?
Windows 98 or Windows 3.1 can't run the exact same applications. The author's point is a good one. Why does running the exact same application under VISTA or W7 cost 20 to 40 more cpu cycles?
In business terms: Why do you have to buy 20 to 40% more hardware to get the same result as I have today?
AMD Needs to grow the fuck up. Yes they have the better chip, but they have a long way to go before their corporate maturity reaches their level of chip design.
Google didn't "perfect" anything. If they did, I wouldn't be seeing ten pages of results when I search for something.
While Google did improve searching "dramatically" the way that I use the search engine hasn't changed all that much since Alta Vista. If the results I need aren't in the first five or six results, I have to rethink what I'm searching for, possibly using + and - modifiers to eliminate the noise.
Honestly, I was doing this five years ago, it's just that with Google, I have to do it less.
I found it faster, though I didn't time it. You're a little short on CPU, so you're going to get slow performance anyway, are probably just better off with a text editor to do the development.
It's worth noting that starting Eclipse for the first time takes 3 or 4 times longer to start than subsequent times.
Perhaps this is so, but I think the general point is mostly valid. The amount of different types of hardware has fallen dramatically in the past few years. I believe that the common configurations most of have are already or could easily supported under Darwin.
Most of this is due to the amount of integrated devices on our motherboards. While it certainly doesn't account for everything, it does get us pretty far down the road.
That's an interesting idea. I'm looking forward to building something that I can tie back to an EJB3 backend (POJOs) and just massage through session beans. This might take some of the more tedious aspects of EJB->Web Development a lot less painful.
Anyway, this is going to make it's way into my playtime toolbox.
I think you're the missing the point. It's not the fact there's those little simple CreateNewDoc() functions, it's the binding to the Java objects on the backend that's simple to create, and that's the part the 'free from bloat'.

I played the game for awhile, and it doesn't take long to figure out having the achievements you made Monady Night wiped out while your at work make redoing the same thing on Tuesday Night not much fun.
Steam is NOT NEW. Steam has been around for over two years. These problems have been around for quite awhile. Steam becomes unuseable anytime they release a CounterStrike update. I don't know how they thought they were going to handle a full release of HalfLife2.
But again, it's not that simple. Best Brains flouted "keep circulating the tapes", so they can hardly make a legal case about the format of what they're doing. Heckling movies is a time honored tradtion, and these guys do it LIVE, not on tape.
The Alamo Drafthouse approached BBI about the licensing of the NAME, not the format. Mr Sinus Theather 3000 is close, and yes actionable, but just plain Mr Sinus? I have my doubts about that.
Find a roll of Gaffer's Tape. Electrical Tape and Duct Tape both use heavy residue adhesive that can be a pain to remove from plastic. Try using some Gaffer's tape instead. It's far easier to clean up after.
It seems Microsoft isn't the only one capable of spreading FUD. If PHP gets to far into someone's pocket, it will get forked into something more palatable to the community.
This is the beauty of open source. It defies this kind of corporate grab.

Mostly because the intel compiler has poor Objective-C support, which a lot of Mac Apps are written in.
How can a single pointer increment be slow? Allocation in Sun's JVM is a single pointer op.

Seriously, this is what it means to be a real developer, solving hard problems. It's what good developers do, and what great developers do well.
The next step will be to tie this to a backend framework for easy site building.
