    Hi ATB,

Do you understand that? It has nothing to do with the Nazis. Invoking the Nazis in an argument and comparing your discussion partner to the people who let them do their thing is a sure way to end the discussion. It's called the 'Invoking Hitler' argument.

I am fully aware of the nature of the "Invoking Hitler" argument. But I do not think that means that every time one mentions the Third Reich, one is applying it - I think my original comparison is still valid (incidentally I think the AC who replied to your post stated this far more eloquently than I ever will be able to).

Or how about giving Northern Ireland back to the Republic of Ireland? Socio-geographical facts, old boy.

Bah, humbug. I have yet to find an American who fully grasps the situation in Northern Ireland. It is not simply a case of England having invaded it and being the ruling opressors against the will of the population. Did you know there is actually a Protestant majority in NI? And they'll be damned if they become part of the Republic of Ireland. Simply withdrawing out of NI just like that would cause a bloodbath. The sitation is incredibly complex, but given recent developments (and Labour's massive victory in last night's election - woo hoo!) I am confident that it will be sorted out, eventually.

Other than that, I think I follow your argument. Maybe I misread the intention of your original post somewhat, but I still feel there is a fine line to tread between trying to take a detached realistic view of the situation, and just not giving a damn. Would you have said, ten years ago, that Apartheid in South Africa was a socio-geographic fact? That is a good example where things did improve, because people cared, even though few really thought it would happen.

    Cheers,

And about the notion of the peace-loving, religious, harmony-seeking Tibet being occupied by the evil Chinese - that's not total bunk, but a lot of it is nonsense. The Dalai Lama may be a nice guy, and a lot of atrocities did happen in Tibet, but Tibet is part of China and will forever be - it's a socio-geographical fact right now that we won't change. Complaining about that is a bit like complaining about Native Americans being murdered.

Excuse me, but what you are saying here is total bunk. Sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about concerning the Chinese invasion of Tibet. Tibet was an independent mountain nation for most of its history. I'm not claiming there were no "old-fashioned" feudalistic elements to the society but it was largely peaceful. The Chinese have introduced a reign of terror, ethnic cleansing, and total denial of the Tibetan culture. More than a million people have died as a result of this, out of a population of only a few million. And it's still going on now! So don't throw up your hands and say "well, it's happened, gee that's just too bad". It's never too late! It's people like you that let these things happen, because you always look away and claim there's nowt you can do about it. There were plenty of folk like you in Nazi Germany, which is why the Nazis were able to carry on with their atrocities without too much disturbance.

The code morphing layer is indeed revolutionary, but what practical - profit-making - applications does it have right now? If people want x86 compatibility they buy an Intel or AMD CPU. One possibility I can think of is running native PowerPC (or even SPARC?) stuff - like a PC and a Mac in one - but surely that would require significantly more work on their code morphing.
