"I think your task is simpler if you define your terms first. Psychologists often define stress as being the result of conflict...normally internal ones. Conflicting desires, or desires at odds with your environment, or an environment hostile to your physical needs can all cause stress."
Yup, and the most stress with technology is the same as the old saying about keeping from choking the shit out of someone who severly deserves it.
We all know there's no stress in the tech world. Not even when you do a minor job for an old person, and they think they can bug the living shit out of you FOR FREE from then on out. Not when the warranty dispatch company calls to bug the shit out of you about a work order THEY NEVER EVEN SENT. Not when someone needs a SQL back end for a website programmed, and expect it the next day. Noooooo, no stress in the tech world.
What I've learned to avoid stress...
Never, EVER, take on a project involving Excel.
Never do support for senior citizens.
If someone refers to their computer as 'that infernal machine', can't name the parts correctly, etc... refer them to your competitor.
If a client that is past due on their payment for a completed project calls... tell em to get screwed, and refer them to your competitor.
Learn the mantra... "Phone support is a 30 dollar minimum, plus a dollar a minute after the first 15 minutes."
Learn the mantra... "No, I charge by the hour, and there is no proration."
Of course, these don't work for the salary and wage techs, but they work well for freelance.
That Microsoft had the source leaked for Win2k and NT 4.0?
Their whole business model depends on upgrades. If people/companies keep using their NT 4.0 machines then MS makes no money on them. It is actually in MS's best interest to 'leak' the code then make an issue of the 'hackers can find ways of exploiting the operating system with the source code' argument. Remember people, FUD sells.
"Based on the research that the McKinsey institute had carried out, Ms Farrell said conservatively, for every dollar invested in the offshore space, $0.58 was directly saved."
Really. I learned assembly language first. The mere thought that there are 'programmers' that don't know assembly is uncomfortable. I really don't know what to think of it. It's kind of like as if someone told me that Jesus, Santa Clause were at the door and wanted to play poker, and they brought their own booze and hookers, and that Elvis was on his way on the back of the Loch Ness monster.
HOW DO THESE PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE MACHINE? In a way, I guess that's what separates the men from the boys, or in this case... real programmers from the lusers... the ability to blueprint the code, how the code works in the machine, and where/if/why errors appear.
"When ever I am in Compusa or Best Buy I warn people not to buy HP or Gateway and buy a pc from a local shop where you wont have to talk to a stupid Indian"
I have my own business doing computer support and service. People always ask me what computer is best to buy. I always tell them that they can get it cheaper from Dell (which they can), but that Dell, HP, etc... ship jobs overseas, do not support their marketplace, and are basically sucking money out of the American economy. Then I leave it up to them to make the decision on what they purchase. It's my job to inform them, fully, and completely about tech... this includes how tech companies screw over the American economy.
"Why is is wrong for me to live a life better than some one else?"
I'll tell you why. For every tall blade of grass there are many short blades. The short blades want to cut down the tall blades because they believe the tall blades shade them from the sun... instead of striving to become taller, they expect the others to be cut DOWN to their level.
(yes, I know that both sides of the issue will try to grasp at that one.)
Yes, the U.S. is the bad guy, and everyone in it is evil. We've taken from everybody and never given anything back. Nevermind the rampant foreign aid and loans backed by the Agriculture Dept., never mind saving their asses from oppressive regimes, nevermind that WE innovate and everyone else just copies us. We are the bad guys, we should be ashamed of ourselves, WE ARE HORRIBLE FOR BEING SUCCESSFULL (instead of being one of many shitholes on the planet).
That's why they carry guns. All kinds of accidents happen around political dissidents unkind enough to insist that the Consitution of the United States be followed by law enforcement.
"Does anyone honestly think that putting that bit of money elsewhere would solve whatever domestic problems you want fixed? Have we yet cured hunger, poverty, or undereducation? No? Well, we've been throwing billions at them so far. If you're looking for funds to cut and inefficiencies to uproot, look in defense and welfare. Diverting funds from NASA to domestic programs will not change anything except to kneecap our development as a multi-planet species."
I've been saying this for years. The increasing expendature on domestic issues will increase exponentially untill there are no money and/or resources for any real space program. It's got to be done now. The 'public' might think that the money should be spent on domestic issues, but the 'public' is full of complete fucking morons.
Perhaps it's possible that since it's wintertime the steam can be captured and run through a condenser using the ambient natural cool air to run down and turn a water wheel?

You should have used the users keyboard, and beat him/her to death with it.

Yup, and there's an 'upgrade' to XP on the way also if I hear things correctly.

So, what's the real cost? 42 cents?

"Welcome to Wal-Mart!"
Start practicing it now so you can say it with a cheery attitude.
"But it is apparently also unfair when this "free trade" concept suddenly backfires on you ?"
The day the Indian government let's U.S. programmers work in India is the day you can start equating your argument with 'free trade'.
It wouldn't surprise me if SCO had the virus written in an attempt to discredit the Linux 'community'.

They'll take care of that pesky 2nd Amendment mess as soon as they can.
Not only is this scam coming out of a 'district', there are several entities in the U.S. known as 'states' that perpetuate this scam.
I suppose it's fine if you run Linux.
That's why they carry guns. All kinds of accidents happen around political dissidents unkind enough to insist that the Consitution of the United States be followed by law enforcement.
Since dueling and drawing and quartering are illegal.
We all know that the circuits we use now were reverse engineered from parts from the crashed Roswell ufo. Sheesh!

I suppose this kind of research fall under 'basic science'?
Sounds like something Thomas Edison did.
Perhaps for upstairs/downstair a qaint pneumatic delivery systems that banks use in drive through service lines.
What ever happened to just screaming/yelling down a hallway?
It's called "job security"

heh
