It sounds like they are trying to fix my most hated part of the game, the combat system. I loved the look and feel of the game but the combat system made me give up near the end. Surprisingly even though I hated it so much, pulling a Star Destroyer out of the sky was a novel and creative (if poorly implemented) idea.
I read an interview with the devs in Game Informer where they admit that the on-screen instructions for pulling the Start Destroyer are wrong, hence the "it takes 20 minutes to beat the level". Poor QA but I still loved the game.
I must disagree with the way they calculated infections. Counting the number of times something comes up on Google does not equal the number of infections.
I work in the education industry. For all of our test & test prep materials, we use a program called MathType. It's quick, easy and supports advanced mathematical formulas.
Sorry, but I must disagree with you. The distribution of the movie is the illegal act. Downloading it is not illegal since he did not redistribute it. Copyright is about distribution not consumption. Was it an unprofessional and asshat move to review an 0mG 1337tZ pr3-r3le4se movie? Yes. Did he violate the law? No.
Why does it matter which of the Fridays you get paid on? As long as ((money in) >= (money out)) over any reasonable length of time greater than two weeks, shouldn't it all come out the same at the end?
It's not a function of payables vs. receivables. It's a function of happiness. Seeing more money in your account than the day before should make one happy.;)
The company I work for just switched to a 9/80 a few months ago. We're a little different since we have a schedule A and a schedule B, so only 1/2 the people are at work any given Friday. It's had some ups & downs.
Here's what I see as the positives: 1. Having a 4 day work week every other week rocks! 2. Getting paid on the Friday where I work 5 days makes it all the more bearable. 3. Easier to get chores, errands done since everyone else is at work. 4. I get more work done during the last hour of every 9 hour day than any other hour.
Here's the negatives: 1. It's a PITA to schedule meetings. 2. Sometimes I travel and it seems to always fall on a week where I'm supposed to be off that Friday. 3. Customers are annoyed because they're not on the same schedule and aren't understanding that it won't be until Monday before I get back to them. 4. I feel like I have less time to get work done since every other week I only work 4 days. 5. More free time means I spend more money. 6. Getting to work while it's dark & leaving when it's dark is depressing.
Which "scarce natural resources" in particular are we talking about? Pro-government, pro-taxation arguments that put government needs first inevitably devolve onto government as a religion, and high taxes as its catechism. The end game of that approach is to simply take everything from anybody earning any income or making any kind of transaction; this, of course, is what we used to call feudalism, and chasing that off was one of the side effects of the Enlightenment. The idealists who claim, with a straight face, that this is not so will never tell you just where their plans should end or how much is "fair", just more than is currently being collected. So grows the State, and their mad plans for running things on somebody else's nickel, coin they didn't have to earn.
The scarce natural resources would be land, labor, and entrepreneurial ability. I'm not sure why you've chosen to try and devolve this conversation towards the condescending but it has no place here. I will ignore your rant of a history lesson, but I do not appreciate your ctone and it will stop for this conversation to continue. I have absolutely no problem laying out exactly was I believe is fair in this situation. What's more, it's easily testable. If a reasonable, neutral person were to look at the situation and ask why Company X, which does a similar amount of business in Washington pays Y amount, why does MS get to pay close to nothing? If it's because of some special consideration, is that consideration worth examining further? Are the taxpayers getting a raw deal? Is it so that MS stock holders can get a bigger return?
This is a textbook case of high taxation modifying the behavior of the taxed. If Washington's tax rates weren't punitive for these sales, there wouldn't be any incentive for the company to be incorporated in Nevada. This is a common corporate practice, and demonstrates the necessity of small laboratories of democracy, aka, states. Washington is seeing how Nevada's tax code is modifying the behavior of Microsoft, and Washington has the choice to modify their tax code or continue pursuing their own version of it. It's not Microsoft's fault for playing by the rules to maximize profit
I must disagree. All other things being equal, given the choice between incorporating in a state where there is no tax, and one where a tax exists, the rational option would be to setup shop where one is able to keep more of one's income. Any tax rate is likely to be considered punitive, and does provides a strong incentive for a firm to look elsewhere to shelter their income. However, MS is headquartered in Washington, uses plenty of Washington's scarce natural resources, but has opted to not pay full value for this. I fail to understand why anyone (outside of those who stand to gain financially from transactions like this) would believe this type of behavior is desirable.
I agree, it has been interesting to see how things have evolved over time. I remember when I first joined,/. & freshmeat were the places to find out anything related to linux. Then it just kinda exploded in a very short time frame. It's been a fun 10 years, but sometimes I miss the way/. was when it was a much smaller community. It was much easier to get help back then, and there were fewer condescending posts.
Thanks for the linkage & the good info. Good stuff. I saw some fluff pieces of it on regular news sites & they seemed to be too busy drooling over the word "nano" to deliver any real substance.

I still have an M-Style keyboard. I don't know what I'd do without it. I agree that the noises computers used to make were soothing. They also provided very good context clues to what was "wrong" with the computer.
Thanks for the honest review. All the reviews I found online seemed like either kowtowing or bitching about trivial things. Is the upgraded proc/mem the only major revisions announced? Where might I find more (better) info? I'm really looking for a limited-use web(mail)/im/gps device . I think I'll wait for the version 2.0.
I'm not sure I can agree here-- I spent $299 + tax on my Nokia 770 as opposed to about $1200 for the Q1; while the Q1 is running Windows and has a more powerful processor, it's also much bigger. I can carry my linux based 770 with me wherever I go very easily (fits in a shirt pocket) and have had no problem using it anywhere. For me at least, the extra $800 isn't worth it.
I've been intrigued by the 770 but I don't know anyone that has one. What do you think of your 770? What do you primarily use it for? What things annoy you about it? What's typing like on the thing? How hard is it compile/use linux apps for the thing?
This is probably going to end up as an excellent way to make sure that no one bothers to do nanotechnology research in the United States.
As an emerging technology of which the potentially harmful effects are still unkown even to those creating products based on nantech, what do you suggest be done to protect the people? Or are you really trying to argue that nanotechnology is proven to have no ill effects? Just recently in the UK, a manufacturer was forced to recall their product that contained nanotechnology when a large swath of users became ill after using the product. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but to look at an emerging science & thumb your nose at the potential health consequences is irresponsible.
No, I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth and why does this matter? Because I happen to prefer PHP for web development (just a personal preference). It would be nice to be able to move the JavaScript components off from the Java framework into a PHP based framework. Well, apparantly you can't do that without special permission.
BTW, the Yahoo UI Library is BSD licensed.
They're only asking for you to request permission. What's the big deal?
We've been seeing a big decline in FAX usage for a while now, in companies of all sizes. The small firm I work at doesn't have a dedicated FAX line anymore, and we're not alone. Pretty soon the FAX will be as rare as Telex.
Where I work (sales office), while there has also been a decline in faxes vs. email, the fax machine is still HEAVILY used. We have 10 incoming fax lines. I've never had someone say I can't fax it, but I get plenty of people everyday say that there email's not working & ask me to just fax it. You'd be surprised by the number of people that don't have scanners. Any time you work with an application that's filled in by hand, it's much simpler & quicker to just fax it. So, from where I'm sitting the FAX machine is here to stay for the long haul.
Really? I think the number of people who bought the cards for HDCP support and not the 3000fps they can get in Doom3 is fairly low.
Basically do what I do. If I buy something that says "AC'97" or "PCI-Express" compatible and doesn't have linux drivers [or compatible drivers] I just return it saying it's defective. So far I've been 100% successful with only having to be marginally rude:-)
So if you bought the card assuming HDCP support worked out of the box and it doesn't return it. If everyone did the same you'd see retailers scrambling to avoid selling them like the plague.
I'm using MCE 2005 for this box, but I still like your suggestion. I've only had the card for a little over a month. I agree with you that the fps rate was also a huge factor, but the machine I put the card in sits in my living room attatched to my HDTV. It was supposed to be a purchase for what I presumed to upcoming technologies.
What I would really like is a steep discount on their next card that is HDCP compliant.
Thanks for the Voyager transmitter link info...that was a really interesting read.
Cheers!

Thanks for the info! More importantly, thanks for not astroturfing. :)
The last item I read on it, they found the hand crank idea wasn't going to work, so they opted not to use it.

In addition to that, is there any mention of HDCP-ready on the retail packaging?
No se. I bought the OEM version, but that is a very good point.
